1 January 17, 2012 Volume 1, Issue 1 In the Glen Special Interest Articles: Whether Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Years it is always party time in the glen. Individual Highlights: Paty Time 1 Friends Bob & Ginny: 2 Kathy 3 Game Night 3 Save the Date 4 Conditioning 5 Pickleball 6 Party Time in the Glen - Christmas December 10 th, the first annual Bailey s Glen Christmas Party was held in the Meetinghouse. Approximately 24 residents attended, enjoying good food and great friends. The Sports Pub pool table, bar, and big screen TVs were put Party Time in the Glen l. - Thanksgiving Gobble! Gobble! Gobble! Our first Thanksgiving at the Meetinghouse is a fond memory of friends and food. The turkey was served with yummy extras provided by the residents. to good use. Dan and Nancy Kierski conducted a game of Guess Who s Santa? Just ask anyone how easy that was! The winning team of Jeanne Bratton, Cindy Harris, and Dan Sowry are the only ones who might disagree The gift exchange was the highlight of the night. You could steal someone else's gift if you wanted it right, Barb Glenister?
2 In the Glen Page 2 of 6 Party Time Party Time in the Glen: Happy New Year In the Glen, we celebrated New Year s Eve gathering early and staying late. Carry-out from Osaka, pizza from Pizza Hut, and appetizers and desserts from residents kept us munching all A group played Hearts: Sam Helland emerged as the card shark. Is it true that the winner has the lowest score? Experienced players and rookies enjoyed Left-Center-Right with Pam Helland (it runs in the family), Gary January, and Linda Sowry all winning. Dan Kiurski officiated our own balldrop (a tennis ball not a pickleball) Friends in the Glen: Bob and Ginny Nibarger Bob and Ginny Nibarger recently moved to Bailey s Glen from Virginia Beach, VA. They live on Meetinghouse Drive. After looking over the Lake Norman area, Bailey s Glen was their clear choice. The active lifestyle was an easy choice. Both Bob and Ginny are now retired, and live with their Golden retriever, Molly. Bob previously worked as a communications consultant and managed a large emergency communications center. Ginny worked for a large education corporation and assisted with the development of teacher enrichment and education programs. They enjoy traveling in their RV and visiting with Bailey s Glen neighbors. Bob loves pickle ball and events at the clubhouse. Ginny enjoys eating out, cooking, sewing and keeping the grandkids. Bob and Ginny have 2 grown daughters and three grandchildren.
3 Page 3 of 6 In The Glen Friends in the Glen: Kathy Cusick Kathy Cusick was one of the first people to recognize the vision of Bailey s Glen as an active adult community. On June 30 th 2010 she became the first resident to close on her home. (Only one hour before Cindy and Greg Harris) Kathy and her husband raised their family in New Jersey. She had a gift shop and art gallery which specialized in custom framing. She first retired to Wilmington to be near extended family. But both of her two sons live in Huntersville and they introduced her to Bailey s Glen. This move was the best decision I ever made, said Kathy. It changed my life for the better! She has watched the community develop into a great group of friends. A big plus is living close to her 4 grandchildren where she keeps up with their activities She is their number one fan in the stands. Captio Game Night in the Glen: Bunco Night Our first official Bunco night of 2012 was on Monday, January 16.. Bunco is a fastmoving, easy-to- understand dice game. No skills required! You just roll the dice, hoping to get the lucky numbers, and maybe even a Bunco! You change partners every 5 10 minutes, so everyone gets a chance to chat with each other. Scores are kept individually for each round and tallied at the end of the night. Results in next newsletter For all game nights: Plan to arrive any time between 6:30 7:00 to mingle and relax with your neighbors. We will begin the game promptly at 7:00PM

See Patti Dock or us at editor@intheglen.com We ll soon be on the Web! Watch for us at: Intheglen.com Pickleball at Bailey s Glen continues to grow, as more and more residents are enjoying this fun and easy-to-learn game. It provides great exercise; is an excellent way to have fun with your friends; and enjoy our unseasonably warm weather. Only five months ago we had our first real pickleball game between two residents when Dan Sowry and Dan Kiurski squared off for about two hours of singles pickleball. Competitive weekend matches have been part of their routine ever since. They even had their own Black Friday Singles Pickleball Tournament. The presentation of a handcrafted trophy followed at the next Game Night. As other residents tried pickleball, they joined our evergrowing pickleball group. Check out the court on almost any decent weather day and among the players you are likely to see are Bob Nibarger, Sam Helland, Terry Glenister, Dan Sowry, Dan Kiurski. Gary January, Greg Harris and Lou Carosa have joined on occasion. And let s not forget the ladies! About a month ago we had our first mixed doubles pickleball game at Bailey s Glen. Linda and Dan Sowry played Nancy and Dan Kiurski in a great game, even if Linda and Nancy would not allow anyone to keep score. And like all sports pickleball has its groupie. It has been reported that Marylyn Roberts enjoys watching the matches from her back yard. She has offered one of the players fashion advice.
