5 In an effort to decrease Interested in making a difference in your community? the amount of waste going to the dump, Sand Point School has started The 5th grade class had fun learning about the value of one of Alaska s natural resources- minerals. The students worked together to mine a pie as they had to lease the land, buy equipment, pay for labor, and pay to reclaim their land after mining. They then balanced these costs against the money that they made from the minerals that they found in their piece of the land. This was a very fun science and math activity with a focus on Alaska. Eastern Aleutian Tribes and Sand Point EMS are offering a training opportunity composting food scraps from lunch! In the past week students have learned what compost is, why it's important, and how to do it. The finished compost will create a nutrient-rich soil amendment for a future community garden. I'd also like to send a big Thank You to the AC Store for donating two 5-gallon buckets for this program! COURSE TITLE: Emergency Trauma Technician (ETT) DATES: April 25-May 10, 2016 TIMES: Evenings and 1 Weekend LOCATION: Sand Point Fire Hall INSTRUCTOR: Susan Davis COST: FREE This Course will cover the ETT Course AND Basic Life Support *A First Aid/CPR class will also be offered* Register by April 15 for either class by contacting Denise Mobeck
