2017 KCFC CHEER & DANCE COMPETITION Welcome to the 2017 Cheer competition registration packet! We hope this packet has detailed out information allowing each squad to be successful! Please take time to read the entire packet noticing any changes and contact with any questions. We are here to help! Location: Olathe North High School 600 E Prairie St, Olathe, KS Date: Sunday, November 19 th, 2017 Performance times will be posted by Monday, November 6 th Competition Fees: The cost is $7 per athlete, per event. Squads may sign up for cheer only or cheer and dance. Make checks payable to KCFC. No refunds after registration deadline for competition fee! Registration Deadline: Friday, October 20th, No late registrations will be accepted. Each squad must complete a registration form. Any child not participating must provide a written note from a parent explaining their absence and an Intent to Compete for completed. This is to ensure that no child is unfairly restricted from participation. Rosters will be checked against those maintained in the office for number participating. This is a recreational competition for KCFC; therefore, all KCFC rules will apply to the competition. (Rules are listed on demerit form and in rulebook.) If you have any questions regarding the rules of the competition, please cheeranddance@kcfootball.org. Divisions: Cheer (Non-advance K 8 th ) Dance (Non-advance K 8th) Cheer (Advanced 6th, 7th and 8th) Dance (Advanced 6th, 7th, and 8th) All squads will be in the division with their own grade level. Due to large squad sizes, we may divide divisions into small and large squads depending on registration numbers for each division. If a squad is mixed-grade, the squad will compete at the majority grade level of the squad. KCFC reserves the right to change divisions based on team registration. A minimum of 3 squads per division must be met. If squads are moved to a different division, they would be moved up to the next grade level in the division. Advanced stunting squads must compete in the advanced categories. Squads must compete in their division s time slot. KCFC will not be able to accommodate specific requests for performance times.
JUDGING KCFC has devised the following guidelines and format for judging the KCFC Cheer and Dance Competition. There will be judges for each division. 4 Judges will be picked by random draw from ALL KCFC Area and Assistant Area Directors with no Area being represented more than once. Three (3) Alternate Judges will also be drawn to cover any division in which a Judge has a squad competing or in case of emergency. The fifth judge will be a guest judge that is not an area director or a current KCFC cheer coach. Guest judges are knowledgeable in the KCFC Cheer and Dance competition and are not necessarily associated with the KCFC organization. Please review all score sheets and judges sheets to make sure that your routine complies will all requirements. All score sheets will be tabulated manually and electronically for accuracy. The highest score and lowest score from all judging sheets will be discarded and will not be factored in the final score. The remaining 3 scores will be averaged to the nearest.00. Bonus points will not be given for jump sequences (double jumps, triple jumps) Squads in the Cheer Category will be judged on: Judging Aspects Description Maximum Point Jump Difficulty K-3 rd Grade: Spread Eagle, Tuck or any other performed 4 th -8 th Grade: Double Nine, Pike, Herkie Toe Touch Jump Execution Majority of athletes demonstrate excellent precision and form Voice Projection Strength and projection on task through the whole cheer Motion Sharpness All athletes together in synchronization and very sharp Stunt Execution All athletes involved in stunt or multiple stunts throughout Stunt Difficulty Skils at grade level proper technique, timing, whole team involved Choreography Creativity High energy difficulty routine above grade level Formations, Transitions, Multiple formations, more Spacing than one transition with all athletes involved Spirit Energy & Appeal Whole team enthusiastic and high energy

C & D FAQ S Who can come and watch? We encourage all participants to invite family. As our club has grown, so have our fans. Please help us with crowd control and limit your guests to 4-6 per cheerleader. Please try to carpool as much as possible. Is there an entry fee for families? Spectators age and older will be charged $7.00 at the door or $.00 pre-sale. Exact change is always appreciated and bills over $20 will not be accepted. KCFC cheerleaders in uniform and football players in jerseys are free. KCFC coaches are free with field passes. How early can we arrive? Is there time to practice? Each squad is allotted a minute practice time. Squads can arrive at the high school 4 minutes before their scheduled practice time and once all cheerleaders arrive should check in minutes prior to practice time. Squads may only practice in the practice room. Squads may stretch or play games in the holding room. There is no practicing in the hallways or on deck. Do we need our own music device to practice? No. We will have boom boxes available in the practice room. Your performance CD is also your practice CD. Music may be played from your smart phone. However, KCFC and DJ will NOT be responsible if calls, text messages or instant messages occur during performances and disrupt the dance routine. Squads will not be allowed to restart their dance routine due to such interruptions. Can we have hair or body glitter? Make-up? Nail polish? No hair or body glitter is allowed. Face rhinestones are also not allowed. Mascot or sticker tattoos are allowed. Heavy make-up is not allowed. Make-up may be worn appropriately. Please refer to KCFC Coach s rule book, pg. 20. Nail polish is allowed, per KCFC rule book. If in doubt, cheeranddance@kcfootballcheer.org for approval. Do our socks and shoe strings need to match? Yes, as stated in the KCFC rulebook, all uniform pieces must match. If your squad has prior approval to have non matching items, cheeranddance@kcfootballcheer.org prior to competition to make sure we have your squad listed. Failure to have pre-approval listed with the committee may result in deductions. Can we do a chant or huddle before our competition routine? NO. ALL squads will be escorted onto the floor and get into their positions. Spiriting onto the floor, chants, and/or huddles before entering in or while transitioning on the floor are not allowed. You are allowed to spirit off the mat at the end of the performance. This rule has been made so that all squads are able to perform their routines in the time that has been allotted to them and the competition day stays on schedule.
Do we have to put a stunt or a jump in our routines? Yes, Judges are judging on grade level stunts and jumps for both cheer and dance. Your cheer AND your dance routines must contain at least ONE jump and ONE stunt. When stunting we will have 7 th - 12 th grade cheerleaders that will walk up on the stunt for extra support. These girls are not participating in the stunt, they are standing next to the stunt as backup. Does our dance have to be 2:30 or can it be shorter? Cheer 1:30? The time allotted for the dance is minimum 2 min. and maximum 2 min. 30sec. The time allotted for cheer is minimum 1 min. and maximum 1 min. and 30 sec. Cheerleaders will perform their cheer first then the dance. There will be an X on the mat that signifies the center of the mat so cheerleaders may line up accordingly. Where do we go after we perform? The squad and coaches can sit in the designated cheer area on the bleachers and watch the rest of their division until the awards ceremony. The squads can move to the gym floor when the awards begin. When the awards ceremony is over the squads should exit the gym and head toward the holding gym for pictures and parent pick up. Parents may also exit the gym from the main entrance and meet their cheerleader in the holding gym to the right of the main gym. Can we use a routine we learned at cheer camp? No. Squads must have original routines for both cheer and dance Can we hire a choreographer? No. You cannot hire or use a professional choreographer. Since this is a recreational competition, cheer and/or dance must incorporate original material (created by the coaches and/or the squad). Any squad using a professionally choreographed routine (paid for or free), will be disqualified. Are there any guidelines for buying music? No. There are no guidelines for buying music but all music must be approved by your Area Director prior to competition. What type of format must coaches bring music on? Coaches may bring their music on a CD. You may use your smartphone, but you must provide any accessories/usb cords. These are not provided by the DJ. **Please make sure that your phone is in airplane mode during the dance portion. We cannot be responsible for any interruptions and your squad will not be allowed to restart their dance routine.** Please double check the CD before competition. While we only need one CD, we suggest having more than one copy in case one gets lost or does not work properly. You will use your CD for the practice room and then take the CD to the DJ. Make sure to pick up your CD from the DJ after the performance. Please mark your CD with your area and grade in case your CD is misplaced.
Are signs and props allowed? Cheer signs are allowed for the cheer only. The only props allowed are signs and poms. Glitter on signs is only allowed if it is affixed and cannot be rubbed off. If you have any questions on signs or props, please have your ideas pre-approved during registration. Can coaches place signs for their squads? Yes. Coaches can place signs for their squad right before the squad comes onto the floor. Once the squad is on the floor, 4 th /8 th grade coaches are not allowed on the floor but will need to sit in chairs to the side of the floor designated for them. Kind.-3 rd grade coaches are allowed to sit on the floor next to the judges table. What is parking and entrance like at Olathe North High School? The entrance to the competition is located in the back of the school at the South Gym/Aux. Gym entrance which is also letter M entrance. You may park in the Olathe North parking lot or Mahaffie House parking lot. Please do not park on the residential streets. Carpooling is a great plan and we appreciate anyone using this option. Will I need cash for this event? Yes! We will have a credit card machine at the entry for admissions, at the concession stand and t- shirt/flower booths. You will need cash for the many wonderful vendors attending the event. We cannot guarantee that the participating vendors will have their own credit card swipes. These vendors will have great gift options to reward yourself or your cheerleader for a great season or stock up on gifts for the holidays. You won t want to miss seeing all the great booths. Can I hold additional practices to prepare for competition? No. All squads must follow the KCFC guidelines which state 4 th -8 th grade squads may have up to 3 hours of practice per week with no single practice exceeding 2 hours. K-3 rd grade squads may have up to 2 hours of practice per week with no single practice exceeding 1 ½ hours. This timeframe stands for all mandatory and optional practices. Squads not following this rule face point deductions and/or other disciplinary actions. Any questions or concerns about Cheer and Dance Competition, please first, refer to the KCFC rule book and ask your Area Director and then the Cheer and Dance cheeranddance@kcfootballcheer.org
