1 Dear Lafayette Escadrille Candidate, Thank you for your interest in Lafayette Escadrille! We are so excited for the upcoming season and can t wait to get started. The Escadrille dance team is a tradition at Lafayette that promotes school pride, unity, and friendship. The mission of the Escadrille program is to help individuals grow as dancers, while having a positive impact on their high school experience. We are so excited that you want to be a part of it! Tryouts will take place April 23 rd -26 th. Monday through Wednesday will consist of applicants learning the dance material. Tryouts will be held for Lafayette students who will be entering 9 th grade through 12 th grade. On Thursday, April 26 th candidates will perform the learned material to a panel of judges. There will be an informational meeting for dance applicants and their parents on Wednesday, April 18 th at 6:30pm in room 180 at LHS. We will discuss expectations, time commitment, and costs that go with being on the Lafayette Escadrille dance team. We will also go over tryouts and any questions you may have. If you are unable to attend this meeting and are interested in trying out for Escadrille, please contact April Ehrhardt at ehrhardtapril@rsdmo.org with any questions. Both the candidate and their parents will need to read and sign the various forms attached to this packet. All candidates trying out for Lafayette Escadrille must have a physical completed since February 1 st, If selected as a member of the team, a physical dated after February 1, 2017 will be required to be turned in by the first practice in August. Every candidate must turn in a completed physical before they will be allowed to participate in the tryout process. We are so excited for the upcoming season and can t wait to meet you! 2 What to turn in on tryout day? To be eligible to try out for the Lafayette High School Escadrille Program, each candidate must submit the following items: Dancer/Parent information form Emergency Medical Form (you will complete this on Privit) Rockwood Physical Exam Form for High School Activities (completed since 2/1/17- you will complete this on Privit AND turn in a copy at tryouts) A copy of the candidate s unofficial transcript (can be printed off infinite campus) Signed Parent/Coach Communications page Attached to the back of this packet are step by step instructions on how to complete your forms on Privit Tryout Information No parents or spectators All former Escadrille members must tryout just like everyone else and are expected to do the same requirements as the other applicants Each candidate will be assigned a number for judging purposes All individuals trying out for escadrille will be required to perform the following: -routine choreographed by the former Escadrille Seniors Candidates will be judged on categories such as projection, technique, memory, overall appeal The placements of the team are FINAL and will not be changed for any reason The judging panel will be made up of three independent judges What to wear for Clinics (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) T-shirts, shorts, and jazz shoes. No jewelry of any kind allowed during clinics or tryouts. This includes all body piercings. This is a MSHSSA rule and will be strictly enforced. What to wear for tryout day White t-shirt, black shorts, jazz shoes or tennis shoes you can dance in Hair should be pulled back in a ponytail, with no hair hanging in the face Escadrille Tryout Important Dates Parent/Dancer Tryout Informational Meeting Wednesday, April 18 th at 6:30pm in room 180 Deadline to submit ALL paperwork: Monday, April 23 rd at 3:30pm at the first day of tryouts. UDA camp fees will be due at the Mandatory Meeting on Monday, May 7 th. The first half of the Escadrille Bill will be due on the first day of Kiddy Camp, Monday June 4 th and the remainder of the bill will be due on the first practice in August. You may also choose to pay the Escadrille bill all at once. Cost will Include: UDA Camp ($369) Practice Clothes Dance Accessories Warm-Ups We will have more specifics once camp gear/ect. is finalized. Please know that our goal is to keep the cost to participate as low as possible for our athletes.

5 PARENT/COACH COMMUNICATIONS Both parenting and coaching are extremely difficult vocations. By establishing an understanding of each position, we are better able to accept the actions of the other and provide greater benefit to our student athletes. When your children become involved in our program, you, as a parent, have a right to understand what expectations are placed on your child. This begins with clear communications from the coach of your child s program. Communication you should expect from your child s coach: 1. Philosophy of the coach. 2. Expectations the coach has for your child as well as the players on the squad. 3. Locations and times of all practices and contests. 4. Team requirements, i.e. practices, special equipment, out of season conditioning. 5. Procedure followed should your child be injured during participation. 6. Discipline that may result in the denial of your child s participation. Communication coaches expect from parents: 1. Concerns expressed directly to coach. 2. Notification of schedule conflicts well in advance. 3. Specific concerns with regards to coach s philosophy and/or expectations. As your children become involved in the programs at Lafayette High School, they will experience some of the most rewarding moments of their lives. It is important to understand that there also may be times when things do not go the way you or your child wishes. At these times discussion with the coach is encouraged. Appropriate concerns to discuss with coaches: 1. The treatment of your child, emotionally and physically 2. Ways to help your child improve. 3. Concerns about your child s behavior. There are situations that may require a conference between the coach and the parent. These are encouraged. It is important that both parties involved have a clear understanding of the other s position. When these conferences are necessary, the following procedure should be followed to help promote a resolution to the issue or concern. Issues that are not appropriate to discuss with coaches: 1. Playing Time 2. Team Strategy 3. Play Calling 4. Other Student Athletes It is very difficult to accept your child s not playing as much as you may hope. Coaches are professionals. They make judgment decisions based on what they believe to be the best for all students involved. As you have seen from the list above, certain things can be and should be discussed with your child s coach. Other things must be left to the discretion of the coach. If you have a concern to discuss with a coach, please follow the procedure below: 1. Call your team level coach to set up an appointment. 2. If a coach cannot be reached, call the athletic director and a meeting will be set up for you. 3. Please do not attempt to confront a coach before or after a contest or practice. These can be emotional times for both the parent and coach. Meetings of this nature do not promote resolution. 4. If the meeting with the coach does not provide a satisfactory resolution, call and set up an appointment with the athletic director to discuss the situation. Parent Signature: Date:
