1 Danceworkz Newz December 2017 On behalf of the instructors of SG Danceworkz and Fitness Studio, we want to wish everyone Happy Holidays! Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your children s lives! I will be sending the newsletter via the first week of the month and hardcopies will be available in the lobby if you don t have access. You can also find the newsletters on our website. Please make sure that you review the information each month. Important information will also be posted on the bulletin board Also, like us on the SG Danceworkz and Fitness Studio, LLC Facebook page and receive current reminders and information. Instructors We are sad to announce that we will be losing two of our substitute instructors in December. Miss Bree will be graduating from Winona State and moving away to pursue her dreams. Miss Addie will be student teaching at Chaska High School and graduating in May. We are sad to see them go, but are excited for their futures. Thank you Miss Addie and Miss Bree for being a part of our dance family! Congratulations! Tuition As a reminder, tuition is due on the 1 st of each month. We have been receiving quite a few tuition payments significantly late. Because of the amount that is being submitted late and how late it is being submitted, we are going to have to begin strictly enforcing our late tuition policy. Please note that that a reminder is sent on the 7 th -8 th of the month if it hasn t been received. If tuition is not received by the 10 th of the month, a $5.00 late fee will be accessed. If payment has not been received by the 20 th of the month, your student will be asked to sit out of class, and if they are in a class that is full, their spot will be offered to someone on the wait list. As a reminder, students will not receive costumes or be able to participate in the recital unless their studio account is current. Please plan ahead for monthly payments to ensure they are received on time to avoid late penalties. We accept cash, check, card, and online payments. Lost and Found Our Lost and Found bins have been extremely large over the past few weeks. As a reminder, we only keep lost and found items for two weeks before donating them. Please ask your dancer to check the bin weekly to ensure they don t end up donating their favorite sweatshirt! 1 P a g e

2 Winter Break Reminder the studio will be closed December 22 nd January 1 st! Classes resume on January 2 nd! We wish all of our dance families a great holiday season! Annual Holiday Lock In We will be holding our annual Holiday Lock In on December 8, This is open to any student 7 years of age and older. Cost is $10/student and includes dinner, snacks, and a light breakfast. Students need to bring a sleeping bag and pillow. RSVP & payment must be received by Wednesday, December 6 th. Adult Classes: NEW LOWER TUITION! We have an adult class every evening. We currently are offering: Group Fitness, Adult Hip Hop, Zumba, and Adult Tap. We have recently lowered our tuition for our adult programs! If you have a dancer enrolled in the studio, you can take a class for $15.00/month. We also offer punch cards and drop in rates, which were also lowered! Performance Company Both our Traveling & Community Performance Companies are working hard to represent the studio throughout the community, as well as our Traveling Performance Company in Iowa, Rochester, and Minneapolis. We are very proud of them. As a reminder, anyone involved in the performance company must complete five community service hours and submit to Sheena. Congratulations to the following students who have turned in 5 hours or more of Community Service: Karianna Barrientos, Kyra Benson, Delaney Hermsen, Olivia Stark, and Mae Watkins. Inclement Weather: A couple reminders about Winter Weather Season: We appreciate everyone removing outside shoes during the winter months and leaving them in the front right corner of the building. You are more than welcome to bring in a clean pair of shoes or slippers or use some of the studio slippers that were donated by an anonymous donor. Everyone s assistance with removing all shoes prior to going past the reception desk area, along with daily cleaning really helps keep the studio clean & fresh, keeps dance shoes from picking up the sand & salt left behind in the lobby, and also helps to keep sickness out during cold & flu season. In the event of bad weather, we will try to make a decision as soon as possible. We always send out an , put it on our voic and also post to Facebook in the event that we feel it is in the best interest of the majority of our students to not have class. We do NOT always follow the school district s decision. In the event that we make the decision to run classes, but you do not feel your particular drive is safe, please do not take any chances. The option for make-up is always available if you wish to do so. 2 P a g e

3 Summer: I am currently busy working on dates and ideas for our summer dance program! We hope to release this sometime in February. If you have ideas for what you would like to see offered, please let me know ASAP! We are happy to offer anything as long as there is enough interest. KEEP MOVIN : Upcoming Conventions (All Students Welcome To Attend): Radix Dance Convention & Competition January 19-21, 2018; Rochester, Minnesota. Please see Sheena if interested in attending. Fees due by December 14, (Fees listed on Website & Keep Movin Bulletin Board) Intrigue Dance Convention & Competition February 9-11, 2018; Minneapolis, Minnesota. Please see Sheena if interested in attending. Fees due by January 2, (Fees listed on Website & Keep Movin Bulletin Board) DANCEWORKZ IN MOTION 2018: Danceworkz In Motion 2018 will be held on Saturday, May 19 th (1pm & 6pm) at SMU Page Theatre. Mandatory Dress Rehearsal will be Friday, May 18 th at SMU Page Theatre. Additional information to follow. Please note that participation in the recital is optional and is not required. If you do not wish to participate, please let Sheena know! Costume Deposits: There will be a costume deposit due for each class that your child takes and is planning on participating in the number for the recital. If your child is in one class, only the 1 st costume deposit would be due. If your child is in two classes, only the 1 st & 2 nd costume deposits would be due. Please note: Pointe Prep & Dance Technique do not submit a costume deposit. Creative Movement, Combo 1-3, and Combo Jazz/Hip Hop only submit one costume deposit. Combo 4 will submit two costume deposits. If you have questions regarding deposits, how many to submit, and when they are due, please let us know. For any student who is planning to participate in Danceworkz In Motion 2018, Costume Deposit #1 & #2 ($50 each) and Costume Deposit #3 ($50) is due December 15 th, with any remaining costume deposits due December 20 th. 3 P a g e

4 Costume Measurement Week: All students, including Performance Company students, planning on participating in the recital, should plan to come in and be measured during the week of December 4 th. We will have someone available Monday-Thursday from 4:45-7:00pm this week. Please mark your calendar and plan to come in a little early for class or stay a little late! Picture Day 2018 Picture Day is set for Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the studio. Schedule for pictures will be available as we get closer to the date. We do plan to get pictures for all our Performance Company numbers as well this day, even if they aren t in Danceworkz In Motion Ordering pictures is optional, but we request that everyone come for the group picture regardless of whether you plan to order or not! We love to have everyone in our recital photo book! Our photographer this year will be Photo Me Pro. Recital Fee: New This Year Reminder that there is a Recital Fee for anyone participating in Danceworkz In Motion The fee is $45/individual or $50/family, and is due by March 15, With this fee, you will receive one Danceworkz In Motion 2018 DVD, a Practice CD & Video of Choreography, as well as one pair of any tights or socks you may need for the show. Videography There is a strict no flash photography or video recording rule at Page Theatre. I have arranged to have Artisitc Video Productions come to film the 1pm show. One DVD will be given to every family in Danceworkz In Motion 2018 (as part of our Recital Fee package). Additional DVDs can be ordered and order forms will be available prior to the recital and orders will have to be paid prior to ordering. Volunteer Options We want to make sure everyone is aware of how the recital will be run this year. We have a contract with Page Theatre that we must provide volunteers, but can also NOT go over a certain number of people in each location. We cannot have people watching the show from the back. If you are willing to volunteer for a show, I will assign you the location that I need filled. I will ensure there are plenty of parents/instructors to take care of the kids, and please rest assured they will be in good hands. You are welcome to purchase a ticket to the show and watch it in the auditorium, sign up to volunteer for a show, or you can drop your child off (sign them in) and pick them back up at the end of the show. Staying with your child and not being a volunteer assigned to that spot or watching the show from the back is not an option and this will be strictly enforced per contract and facility policy! Please assist us by following these rules so we are able to use the beautiful space in SMU in coming years! 4 P a g e

5 Extra Number Opportunity: Dad s Dance Hero: Rehearsal times will be posted online as well as at studio by the end of the first week of December. Please do not sign up if you are not able to make it to the majority of the rehearsals. You are only allowed two misses. Costs: No rehearsal fee cost. Costume will be $35 for matching shirts and capes, and you will be asked to provide the pants. More details to come. $35.00 will be due by January 31 st. Please watch the Danceworkz In Motion Bulletin Board for more information as it becomes available. Ticket Sales Tickets will go on sale on Monday, March 12 th. There will be an online option to purchase tickets, or you can also call or visit the SMU Page Theatre Box Office to purchase. Tickets are NOT available at the studio! Additional information to follow. We suggest ordering early as we have sold out the past two years. Costume Reveal & Try On Weeks: I place final orders for costumes in December. I cannot order a costume unless the deposit has been received. No exceptions. Please plan ahead and follow the payment schedule for costume deposits to ensure your child receives their costume with the rest of their class. As soon as we get confirmation that the costumes we ordered are available to us, we will make a book to show the students. Instructors will first show their classes and then the next week we will have a master book available in the lobby, we also will have all of this available on our website. Please do not disrupt classes to ask the instructor to see a picture. Shortly after Spring Break, we will have a Costume Try On Week. During this week, the classes will spend the last minutes of class trying on their costumes. Students will then take their costume home with them and it will be your responsibility to ensure that it is kept safe and to complete any alterations. If your studio account is not current, students will not be able to take home costumes, so please review when payments are due (tuition, remaining costume balance, recital fee, etc.) and plan ahead. Please keep in mind, that if something happens to the costume, there is a high likelihood that we will not be able to get another one in time for the show. Again, we will release the official week as soon as we get confirmation of ship dates, and know when the majority of costumes will be in. For any costumes that have not come in by this week, we will try on their costume in class as soon as they come in! The recital time can be extremely overwhelming with lots of information! Most of the items, until you personally see and do it once, it is hard to know exactly how it will go! I promise to make things as smooth and stress free as possible! Please refer to the bulletin board on the very front wall as we get closer. This will have all the recital information and there will be a table underneath it will information as well!
