1 Rowing Victoria Inc. Minutes of Board Meeting Date - Wednesday 24th February 2016 Location Phone Time 2.00pm 2.30pm 1. Welcome and attendance Present: Pat McNamara, Bill Webster, Caitlin Ripper, Joe Joyce, James Hatherley, Tom Wood In Attendance: Nick Gall: CEO James Scott: Minutes Simon Morrison: Chairman of Selectors 2. For Approval This meeting was organised to ratify Victorian crews competing in the Interstate Regatta on Sunday 20 th March PMc asked SM to step the Board through each crew 2.1 Queens Cup SM indicated that there is an underlying issue with the selection of the Queens and Kings Cup Eights as all athletes are candidates for National Selection and a substantial portion of their trialling has been conducted in singles. The crews have had a few rows together in different combinations. It is clear that Sarah Perkins struggles with sweep, and Katrina Bateman has injuries that might impact the crew. SM proposed that the Board instruct selectors to cut Sarah Perkins and Hannah Lewis and select Kim Brennan as reserve. PMc saught clarification that selectors had followed the policy to which SM indicated that they had and that selectors are in agreement. TW queried whether selecting Kim Brennan as reserve for the Queens Cup would impact the Nell Slater event. It wouldn t as the Nell Slater Trophy is held before the Queens Cup. PMc raised Jennifer Cleary s injury. SM indicated that they were not as serious as Kim Brennan s. JJ asked why the Board was being asked to take this approach. SM advised that athletes are aware of they may be selected as they have been training with the crew. BW clarified that the Board wanted selectors to select an eight with cox and a reserve. PMc asked selectors to nominate a crew of eight, a cox and a reserve. SM recommended that the Queens Cup crew be: 1 Jennifer Cleary Jessica Morrison

2 Lucy Stephan Charlotte Sutherland Sophie Sutherland Katrina Bateman Madeleine Thomas Addy Dunkley-Smith Sarah Banting (cox) Kim Brennan (reserve) Simon Gadsden (coach) The Board ratified the selection of the Queens Cup crew. 2.2 Kings Cup SM recommended that the Kings Cup be: Josh Booth Will Lockwood Karsten Fosterling Josh Hooper Josh Duncley-Smith Tim Masters Charles Risbey Sam Hookway David Webster (cox) Angus Widdicombe (reserve) Christian Ryan (Coach) PMc asked whether the selection policy had been followed and whether selectors were in agreement. SM indicated that it had been followed and selectors were agreed. The Board ratified the selection of the Kings Cup crew. 2.3 Presidents Cup SM recommended that David Crawshay for the Presidents Cup with Bill Tait as coach. PMc asked whether the selection policy had been followed, and whether selectors where in agreement. SM indicated yes. The Board ratified the selection of David Crawshay. 2.4 Nell Slater Trophy SM recommended Kim Brennan for the Nell Slater trophy with Lyall McCarthy as coach. 2 PMc asked whether the selection policy had been followed, and whether selectors where in agreement. SM indicated yes. The Board ratified the selection of Kim Brennan.

3 2.5 Wilkinson Cup SM recommended the following for the Wilkinson Cup crew: Alexander Wolf Max Mezgar Angus Maloney James McCann Alexander Clarke Lachlan May James Hoban James Rook (cox) John Saunders (coach) Pmc queried whether the selection policy had been followed and whether selectors where in agreement. SM indicated that they were. BW queried whether we were likely to receive any appeals. SM thought an appeal might occur. The Board ratified the Wilkinson Cup crew. 2.6 Bicentenary Trophy SM recommended the following crew for the Bicentenary Trophy: Elise Franetic Maddison Brown Kate Olivia Duggan Gemma Sibillin India Dempsey Amanda Bateman Chloe Betts Kirstie Green Alexis Hancock (cox) Brigette Carlile (Coach) PMc queried whether the selection policy and whether selectors were agreed. NG indicated that Shane Usher was not in agreement that the process was followed but felt the outcome was reasonable. Both BW and NG outlined conversations. PMc asked SM to discuss with selectors and resolve. The Board would like confirmation that selectors are unanimous. JJ queried reserves for the Wilkinson and Bicentenary Cups crews. David Pincus and Shane Usher did not want to appoint reserves if they weren t already attending Nationals. The Board agreed to ratify reserves by Penrith Cup 3 SM recommended the following Penrith Cup crew:

4 James Wilson William Day Timothy Day Carl Tomczak Hugo Berry (reserve) Jeff Watt (Coach) PMc recused himself and BW took over. Hugo Berry appealing on basis of tight results in seat racing. Seat racing occurred because selectors could not differentiate between athletes based on other available data. BW asked whether the selection policy had been followed and whether selectors were in agreement. SM indiacted that they had been but also that selection had been difficult as athletes were predominantly trialling and competing in singles like athletes that nominated for the Queens and Kings Cups. The Board ratified the selection of the Penrith Cup crew. 2.8 Para Events NG asked the Board to ratify LTA s. Andrew O Brien has had some discussions with the athletes and available data has been obtained. NG recommended that Kate Lapthorne and Aaron Skinner be selected. The Board ratified this.
