1 FRIDAY 3 MARCH 2017 Head Master's BulletinPrep NewsJunior School News PDF Version SPORT Cricket vs Waverley It sometimes seems as if the weather gods like to play cruel tricks on Cricket teams! This season we have had matches cancelled in consecutive weeks due to severe heat as well as torrential rain. The TGS 3rd XI team has actually not completed a game in the back half of the season. Here s hoping we get some more normal weather and we can play a full complement of matches against Knox. As per the previous round against St Aloysius, there were a number of washouts against Waverley, but the teams that did manage to play put some good performances together.
2 1st XI Wash Out. The 1st XI waited around at Queens Park until just after lunch with the mindset of playing a shortened fixture, but it wasn t to be. The equation remains the same for the 1st XI in their premiership aspirations Win their remaining 2 games and they will be CAS premiers-- a feat which has not occurred since nd XI TGS defeated Waverley 108 Last week the 2XI played Waverley College in the 8th round of the CAS fixtures. After a convincing win in the two day match, TGS were looking to once again come out on top in a rain-affected day, in which runs were needed to be earned. The match started out positively with TGS winning the toss and electing to bat first. After losing two early wickets, a 96 run partnership between Tim Ledden (11Yo) and Alec Suster (12WH) stabilised the innings. The partnership finally ended with Tim Ledden (11Yo) dismissed for 68 off 90 deliveries, while Alec Suster fell shortly after, dismissed for 19 off 33 deliveries. Jonathan Hooper (11Ar) and Lachlan Fitch (12Hi) were then able to finish off the innings, with Jonathan Hooper getting a quick-fire 31 off 43 deliveries and Lachlan Fitch not out on 15 off 20 deliveries. These contributions helped guide TGS to a first innings score of after the allotted their 32 overs. TGS came out firing in the field and with the ball. Solid bowling performances from Saachin Simpson (11WH) with figures of 2-22 off 7 overs, Alec Suster with 2-17 off 3 overs and Finn Ritchie (11Ke) with 2-11 off 4 overs were able to guide TGS to a comfortable 66 run win over Waverley College. Special mention must go to Neilesh Fernandes (11We) and Nic Pavic (11La) for their contributions of a run out each in the field. Alec Suster (12WH) 10A TGS 3/68 defeat Waverley 67 The 10As played through consistent mist on Saturday to get back to back wins in the one day competition. Trinity decided to bowl and were rewarded immediately for their decision. The Waverley top order really struggled with the line and length of the first change bowling attack and were five down inside the hour. Understandably fielding was not as crisp as last week and a few lapses in concentration resulted in misfields and drop catches. However, it made little impact as Dilan Srikumar (10WJ) and Ethan Grimmond (10He) both took 4/7. Waverley s tail fell quickly and Trinity were chasing 67. The run chase did not start as planned with the loss of two early wickets and the Waverley team were motivated to make a game of it. Ultimately, the calm batting of the middle order and the ability to punish any loose bowling resulted in the total being chased down with an hour to spare. Next week will be another test for the 10As who have set themselves the goal of going undefeated in the one day competition. William Campbell 10A Coach
3 9B TGS 5-76 defeat Waverley 75 Due to the weather conditions the 9Bs played a 20/20 match against Waverley. After a couple of overs the bowlers really found some form with Steven Kountouris (9Mu) finishing with 3/11 off 3 overs and Finn Dawson (9WJ) picking up a couple of wickets. Through some excellent fielding Trinity did not allow Waverley into the game, also taking good catches which was pleasing to see and bowled Waverley out for 75. Unfortunately, Trinity didn t capitalise on the positives in the field and played some silly shots to put themselves under pressure, though some strong hitting from Thomas Foung (9Sc) who scored the winning runs and finished with 26 n.o., provided the stability to give Trinity victory. Ben Cook 9B Coach 8A TGS defeat Waverley 81 Captain Rory Scott (8We) won the toss and elected to bat before conditions got any worse. This was quite strategic as the covers kept the overnight rain off the pitch, but 45 minutes into play the drizzle started and did not disappear until the end of the game. Thus conditions for batting got harder as the game wore on. Trinity No. 3 batsman Emmanuel Grogan (8Fo) scored a valuable 28 and No. 4 Rory Scott made a swashbuckling 57 not out. Trinity finished at In reply, Waverley were bowled out for 81. Hunter Hannaford (8Du) was the main destroyer with the ball, claiming 3-31 off four overs. Hunter knocked over Waverley s most threatening batsman with an absolute peach of a delivery. The ball angled in towards middle stump, then bounced and swung away, squaring up the batsman who chased the ball and snicked one through to the wicket keeper. Nikhil Kapoor (8Yo) and Peter Roser (8Ke) also contributed with the ball, claiming two wickets each. Luke Gray 8A Coach CAS Cricket Next week sees the start of the NSW Schoolboy Cricket week. Five Trinity players have been named in the squad of 14 players selected to represent the CAS. Congratulations to Mark Dedes (12St), Liam Scott (11We), Tane Edmed (11Fo), Bradley Uglow (11He) and Vasi Macmillan (11Ho). This is the highest representation of Trinity players in the CAS side in recent history and we wish the boys the best of luck in the carnival. Hopefully, with some strong performances for the CAS, some of the Trinity boys can push for selection in the NSW Schoolboys team.
