5 SECTION A: PREAMBLE These rules are for the GPS Cricket Season competition which is to be held in Term 1 of the school year. Cricket will be offered for Year APPLICABILITY OF INTERNATIONAL/NATIONAL RULES GPS Cricket is conducted under the rules of the Laws of Cricket (2000 Code 5 th Edition 2013) as recognised by Cricket Australia except as far as the same are modified, altered or added to by the governing body in Queensland, Queensland Cricket, and herein-after modified, altered or added to by the GPS Association in these Rules of Competition. SECTION B: CODE OF BEHAVIOUR MATCH DAY 2. PLAYERS 2.1. Play by the rules 2.2. Cooperate with and respect game officials and their decisions Abstain from verbal abuse, distraction, or provoking of officials or other players see section on Sledging below Treat all players as you would like to be treated and respect the property of others Leave the field immediately and without dissent, when given out As an incoming batsman, pass the dismissed player on the field of play and go directly to your batting position without conversation Remain off the pitch area prior to the match and avoid damage to the playing area during the match Abstain from excessive encouragement of bowlers / team-mates between deliveries When batting, be ready to bat when the bowler is at his mark, and, when bowling, complete your over without delay. 3. COACHES 3.1. 6 4. PARENTS AND SPECTATORS 4.1. Provide a model of good behaviour for all players Demonstrate courtesy towards all players, all officials, and all spectators Encourage honest effort, skilled performance, and team loyalty Let game officials conduct the match without interference yet be willing to provide assistance if requested. 5. ADMINISTRATORS AND OFFICIALS 5.1. Ensure the equipment and conditions are safe for the skill level of the boys involved Ensure everyone involved, including parents, understand their responsibilities regarding fair play and appropriate behaviour Officiate without bias, emphasize skill and enjoyment, encourage both teams, and set a good example Be consistent, courteous, and helpful towards all participants Ensure that the spirit of the game is not lost by overcalling violations Ensure that coaches and officials provide adequate supervision of the players. PLAYERS, COACHES, PARENTS, SPECTATORS AND OFFICIALS ARE ENCOURAGED TO FAMILIARISE THEMSELVES WITH THE GPS CODES OF BEHAVIOUR THAT APPLY TO ALL GPS ACTIVITIES. 6. SLEDGING 6.1. The Headmasters of GPS schools have determined that sledging has no place in GPS cricket. This practice is forbidden The Headmasters have directed that players: a) are to make no derogatory comments at an opposing player; b) are to make no derogatory comments about an opposing player, and c) are to make no comments or noises at critical times during the game e.g. when a batsman is about to face a ball or when a bowler is running in to bowl. 7. MAINTAINING A STANDARD OF BEHAVIOUR THE BREACH OF CODE OF BEHAVIOUR SYSTEM The above breaches of behaviour are guidelines Coaches 3 Clarification of current Red Card/ Yellow Card System 2009; GPS Headmasters meeting 21 October 2013 preferred terminology to be used is Breach of Code of Behaviour Report Version 3 DRAFT 19 January 2018 Page 6 of 24

7 All coaches are responsible for ensuring that the letter and the spirit of the Code of Conduct is followed and are expected to set an example to others at all times Umpires Umpires in GPS Cricket are instructed to watch such negative activities as those listed above. Should an umpire consider the Code of Conduct is being broken during a game, he shall, using his discretion (and being mindful of the context of any such comments or actions of either fieldsmen or batsmen), take action The procedure to control unacceptable behaviour is: i) to stop the game and warn any student who is displaying any unsportsmanlike behaviour and inform the Captain of the warning, and include the player/s name/s in the report, ii) should it persist further the Umpire/s will stop the game and report the player to the Coach of the school team If an Umpire warns a player he must record the incident on the Umpires report form. When an Umpire reports a player the incident must be recorded in detail. For all incidents the player s name and school must be stated Captains and Vice-Captains of all teams are expected to see that their team plays the game according to the spirit as well as the letter of the Code of Conduct and set the example to others Directors of Cricket As the Code of Conduct applies to all teams, not only the First XI, Directors of Cricket are to liaise with GPS Sport and Activities Committee members to ensure that all coaches are issued with the Code of Conduct and the appropriate regulations and that the school as a whole is informed of the content of the Code of Conduct Players who breach the directions above or the GPS Code of Behaviour will face the following consequences: a) they will be issued with a warning for a first offence in a match; b) serious offences will result or a second offence in a Breach of Code of Behaviour Report which may mean immediate exclusion from the match; c) when a player is issued with a Breach of Code of Behaviour Report, he will incur a further penalty of missing the next GPS fixture game in which he would otherwise have played The purpose of this system is to monitor and support appropriate player behaviour. 8. BREACH OF CODE OF BEHAVIOUR REPORTS 8.1. The Umpires appointed by Queensland Cricket / or by the Host School are to provide a copy of any GPS Queensland Cricket Breach of Code of Behaviour Report Form issued to the school concerned and to the GPS office as required and no later than 12 noon on the Monday following the fixture Reports should be made using the online competition management system [ My Cricket ]. 8 8.3. It is understood that each member school will manage the implementation of follow up to any offence with the student/s involved, and enforce an automatic 1 week suspension for a Breach of Code of Behaviour offence; or impose any additional penalty as they see fit Note all breaches are to be handled through the GPS Association system. Refer to APPENDIX A - GPS Breach of Code of Behaviour Report Form - Cricket SECTION C: ALL TEAMS 9. AGE REGULATIONS 9.1. No student is eligible to take part in this competition at any time in the year of his 19 th birthday or if he had turned 19 before the year of competition Students in Years 5 to 12 only, enrolled in a GPS member school, may participate in the competition TEAMS/ AGE DIVISIONS/ GRADES The competition shall be conducted in the following year group grades: Open (all ages) 1 st XI; and Year Year 11, Year 10, Year 9, Year 8, Year 7, Year 6, and Year Students are eligible to take part as members of their year group. 9 10.4. Team Entries Registration This information is used to provide an overview of team entry details and make decisions in relation to the competition structure for the GPS Cricket season Three days before the start of the first fixture in each season [or other nominated deadline], each member school participating in the GPS competition must: lodge with the GPS Executive Officer, the number of teams/ divisions per year group and Open division they will be nominating provide the total number of teams entered for the school prior to the start of the season provide the total number of students registered to take part in the sport for the season The GPS Cricket Sub-Committee/ GPS Sport and Activities Committee have determined the minimum number of teams per division to constitute a GPS competition is 5 (five) teams from 5 member schools. There is no minimum to the number of teams that may be entered into the Supplementary Draw. 11. SEASON DRAW The competition will be conducted in accordance with a schedule of matches drawn up by the GPS Sport and Activities Committee prior to the start of the playing season Each of the nine member schools in the Association plays a single round robin competition against all of the other schools Schools, first listed in the draw, will have their 1 st XI play at home along with Year 12 teams [4th XI, 5th XI, 6th XI etc], Year 10, Year 8 and Year 6 age groups while schools, listed second in the draw, will have their Year 12 teams 2 nd XI and 3 rd XI at home along with the Year 11, Year 9, Year 7 and Year 5 age groups This arrangement will alternate from year to year: For 2018: Home Games 1st XI, Open or Year 12 teams [4th XI, 5th XI, 6th XI etc]; Rotation: Year 11, Year 9, Year 7, Year 5 Away Games [2nd XI, 3rd XI] ; Rotation: Open or Year 12 teams, Year 10, Year 8, Year CANCELLATION OF MATCHES Should a match(es) be cancelled on the day prior to the allotted date, the GPS Sport and Activities Committee member responsible for the cancellation will notify the GPS Executive Officer and the opposing school s GPS Sport and Activities Committee member by 1:30pm on that day. 7 GPS Cricket Sub-Committee meeting, 1 April 2009; reviewed 7 November 2016, 1 December 2017 by Flying Minute Version 3 DRAFT 19 January 2018 Page 9 of 24

FAST AND MEDIUM PACE BOWLERS Sanctioned by the Cricket Australia, the following rules, aimed at preventing back injuries, govern the number of consecutive overs and the maximum overs that can be bowled by an individual fast or medium pace bowler in a day s play. While these rules do not apply to spin bowlers, umpires should use discretion in determining the classification of a bowler A pace bowler is allowed to change ends within a spell, but must not exceed the maximum overs allocated in that spell. In all cases, after an initial or subsequent spell, a bowler must not return to bowl until other bowlers have completed twice the number of overs in his last spell (e.g. 4 overs bowled in spell, 8 overs to be completed by other bowlers before he can bowl again) Limits on the number of overs that can be bowled are shown below. 11 14. TOSS Captains will toss not less than 15 minutes before the time set down for commencement of play. 15. CLOTHING Only white or cream trousers, shirts, with trimmings in accepted school colours, along with caps or white hats and socks constitute the playing dress. GROUNDS AND PITCH CARE Each home school will provide a turf pitch of good quality on a ground of reasonably even surface with grass cut First XI fixtures are to be played on the scheduled main oval of the home school or, in a crisis situation, its alternative ground, nominated before the start of the season The GPS Executive Officer must be notified if there are any changes in arrangements Schools may cover turf pitches without restrictions The boundary of the field should be marked by a rope or line a set distance from the fence to comply with recommended risk management guidelines for safety of spectators and players. 18. 12 18.2. In the event of inclement weather, the Sport and Activities representative of the home team is to notify the visiting school if grounds are unplayable, as soon as possible. The match shall be declared a No Result, unless by mutual consent, it is agreed to be played on the ground of the visiting school The GPS Executive Officer must be notified if there are any changes in arrangements If the two teams are on the ground at the time appointed for the start of play, the fitness of the ground / conditions for play will be in the hands of the Umpires. If they do not agree, the existing state of affairs must continue, that is, if play has not commenced, there will continue to be no play until an agreement has been reached In the event of extreme weather, a clear indication regarding reduced overs or length of game is to be provided. This decision is to be made after consultation between the two GPS Sport and Activities Committee members of the competing schools. If the two GPS Sport and Activities Committee members can t agree, the decision is to be made by the Headmasters of the competing schools If the GPS Sport and Activities Committee member of the home team considers the weather conditions will make play impossible, and he/she notifies the visiting school accordingly, all relevant matches will be drawn. 19. EXTREME WEATHER Please refer to the GPS Extreme Weather Policy which outlines the protocols for temperatures between degrees and cancellations due to extreme weather conditions that may apply to GPS Cricket. 20. UMPIRES The Umpires for all grades other than the 1 st XI are to be arranged by competing schools [at their expense], but these Umpires should ideally be accredited by the applicable Queensland Cricket Club/ Association Coaches will umpire their team s match without coaching from the field of play or, when not umpiring, from the boundary Umpires will take the field five minutes before the commencement of play and before the commencement after any interval. CHANGE OF FIXTURE The fixture is to be played on the date and at the host school as per the GPS Calendar and Season Draw unless transferred to the visiting school under Rule 17.2 or RESULTS The Home team must use the online competition management system or a copy of the Results Sheet to submit results to the GPS office before 5pm on the Saturday following the game, for a summary of round results and the Points Tables to be updated and made available to all schools on the GPS My Cricket website A table of results for each age division will be displayed on the GPS My Cricket website noting the number of wins and losses for each team after each round NOTE: A Premiership for the Champion School will apply to First XI competition only. Please refer to the 2018 GPS Rules of Competition Cricket - First XI Playing Conditions [Part 2 of 2] provided as a separate but accompanying document to these rules ST XI TEAM SQUAD LIST REGISTRATION Three days before the start of the first fixture in each season [or other nominated deadline], each member school playing in the GPS competition must: lodge with the GPS Executive Officer, details of all registered players for the Open 1 st competition [i.e. 1 st XI Team Squad List] - the names of students, their date of birth, the Year Group, and date of enrolment to the GPS school Lodgment MUST be before the completion of the first round of fixtures Squad Lists should include all players likely to be played in the Open 1sts team over the season Lodge with the GPS Executive Officer, the names and contact details of all registered staff associated with the Open 1 st team In 2018 the GPS will trial the use of the online competition management system to submit 1 st XI Team Squad Lists. 15 GPS Sport and Activities Committee Meeting, 21 July 2008 Version 3 DRAFT 19 January 2018 Page 13 of 24

14 Failure to comply by the relevant timeframe will result in all teams from all competitions from the offending member school being unable to compete until the situation is rectified Schools are required to advise the GPS office of any changes to this list made during the season. Registrations of new players must be completed before the player participates in any competition by resubmitting the updated registration/ entries form noting the new date of submission It is the responsibility of each member school to ensure that all registered players are aware of the regulations and policies governing GPS Competition, including the Code of Behaviour The GPS Executive Officer is responsible for providing this information to the GPS Headmasters prior to the start of competition ST XI TEAM LIST This report is to be completed by both schools participating in the match and handed to the presiding Umpire(s) prior to the toss being taken. The match CAN NOT start until this procedure is completed The presiding Umpire(s) are requested to complete the scores and give the Wicket and Ground a rating between 1 and 10 at the end of the match The Director of Cricket from the Home School is required to send this completed form to the GPS Executive Officer by 12 noon Monday following the end of the match In 2018 the GPS will trial the use of the online competition management system to submit 1 st XI Team Lists. Refer to APPENDIX C - GPS Cricket - 1 st XI Team List 26. UMPIRES 1 ST XI Competent umpires for each round will be secured and appointed by Queensland Cricket (QC) and advised through the GPS Executive Officer When only one official umpire is present, that umpire will officiate from the bowler s end at all times. Umpiring at square leg shall be shared between schools. (It is the prerogative of the schools to who they select to do their share of umpiring) Following the completion of the Match, the Results sheet is provided by the Home side Director of Cricket and verified by the Umpires, Captains and Coaches. The Home side s Director of Cricket will forward the result to the GPS office If, in the opinion of the GPS Sport and Activities Committee members, and MIC from both schools, that no appointed/ appropriate / qualified official can be found to control the 1 st XI fixture, the match is to be 16 Agreement with Queensland Cricket agreed December GPS Cricket Sub-Committee Meeting, 3 September GPS Cricket Sub-Committee Meeting, 3 September 2007; process amended Version 3 DRAFT 19 January 2018 Page 14 of 24

15 postponed and a date set for replay be organized by the GPS Executive Officer in conjunction with the appropriate schools Following the completion of each match, the two duty Umpires along with the Captain and Coach of each side will complete the Umpires Report. These forms will be provided by the Umpires. The home side s Director of Cricket will act as the facilitator for these meetings In 2018 the GPS will trial the use of the online competition management system to submit 1st XI Captain & Coach Umpire Match Reports. Refer to APPENDIX D GPS Cricket 1 st XI Result Sheet Refer to APPENDIX E - GPS Cricket - 1 st XI Captain & Coach Umpire Match Report 27. SPIRIT OF CRICKET AWARDS [A] At the conclusion of each match, umpires shall award points for the Spirit of Cricket in the sequence as follows: 3 points: Exceptional, epitomised the true spirit, traditions and values of the game 2 points: Played the game in good spirit 1 point: Uncompromising, but incident free 0 points: Generally antagonistic atmosphere created -1 points: Unacceptable behaviour, captain informed [B] The guidelines for awarding the above points are as follows: (i) The captains acceptance of their responsibility for their player s behaviour as required under the Laws of Cricket; (ii) A team s adherence to the principles of the Spirit of the Game, which includes respect for teammates, opponents, and the role of umpires; and (iii) Acceptance of the umpire s decision. [C] An average total shall be used to determine the award winners based on those matches from which points are awarded. The average total shall be determined by dividing the total points by the number of matches for which points were awarded. Points shall only be awarded for a Two Day match in which at least 25% of the scheduled overs are completed or for a One Day or Twenty20 match in which a result is achieved. [D] In the event of a Tie in any competition, the Spirit of Cricket award shall be determined based on the least number of scores of one [1] or less In 2018 the GPS will trial the use of the online competition management system to submit 1st XI Captain & Coach Umpire Match Reports. SECTION E: PLAYING CONDITIONS - ALL TEAMS EXCEPT 1 ST XI 28. 16 28.2. See Section C: for rules re Age Regulations, Draw, Fast and Medium Pace Bowlers, Toss, Clothing and Ball Teams, within each Year Group division, will be as numerous as is practical All grades, except 1 st XI, play limited over cricket. Six-ball overs apply. 29. FORMAT All matches will be played in the GPS spirit whereby all boys have the opportunity to enjoy three to five hours of limited overs cricket For 40 over matches: 2 nd XI, Yr11A, Yr10A, Yr9A, Yr8 A, Yr7A (i) Each team may receive 40 overs, within the appropriate time limit, unless dismissed beforehand. (See Rule 30.2, 30.3 below.) (ii) Bowlers can bowl as per the table seen in Section C, Rule 13: Fast and Medium Paced Bowlers above, except for spin bowlers who can bowl their allotment of overs continuously. 19 31.7. There will be no unnecessary delay by either side while play is in progress so that the maximum overs allocated to each team are completed. Good sportsmanship is expected. 32. DRINKS In all 40 over matches a drink break will be taken on the field, for a maximum of three minutes, at the conclusion of the 20 th over In all 30 over matches a drink break will be taken on the field, for a maximum of three minutes, at the conclusion of the 15 th over There are to be no drinks breaks in any 20 over matches. 33. RESULT In all games, if it is impossible for the team batting second to receive its full quota of overs, the game will finish at the allocated ceasing time and the match will be decided on the total number of runs scored at the highest equal number of overs In all matches if, due to unforeseen circumstances, fewer than the allotted overs are bowled to the team batting first, the match will be decided on the total score when the same number of overs are bowled to the team batting second Unless teams are dismissed beforehand: i) for 30 and 40 over matches 15 overs must be completed by each team to obtain a result; ii) in all 20 over matches - 10 overs must be completed by each team to obtain a result. Note: Should it not be possible for teams to receive the required number of overs, the match will be declared a draw, but the game may proceed at the discretion of the coaches Scorebooks must show each team s progressive score at the end of each over. 34. GENERAL In Year 5 to Year 9 teams, players will not be allowed to field within 10 metres of the batsman, excepting gully to the wicket keeper. Other age groups fielding within the 10 metres must wear protective headgear with full facial protection and are encouraged to wear a protector and shin guard In Years 5 & 6, players will rotate through all fielding positions with the exception of wicketkeeper. Fielding positions will change after each over is completed All wicketkeepers in Years 5 & 6 are encouraged to wear protective headgear and a protector along with regular protective equipment, in matches with hard balls All batsmen are encouraged to wear protective headgear and a protector along with regular protective equipment. 20 34.5. All age groups will use the rules regarding wide ball, no ball, fast short-pitched delivery, and high fullpitched deliveries; as set out in Section C. I.e. Spinner No ball is above shoulder, Pace No Ball is above waist band with batter in normal stance In Years 5 & 6, LBW does not apply In Years 5 & 6, pitch length shall be shortened to 17.68m (stump to stump) In all Years 5 & 6, and 7C and below and 8C and below, the over consists of 6 fair balls or 8 deliveries whichever comes first. Exception: the last over of the match must continue until there are 6 fair balls In Years 5 & 6, the bowling end is specified before the commencement of play and should remain the same for the entire match In Years 5 & 6, the umpire should remain the same for both innings where possible. Bowlers end and square leg shall swap every 5 overs In Years 5 & 6, and 7C and below and 8C and below, all batsman in these grades must retire after 30 balls. The retired batsmen may return to the crease when all other team members have batted Pitch surfaces are at the discretion of the host school however all 40 over matches will be played on turf where possible. 35. CALCULATIONS FOR TIME LOST Play in the innings of the team batting first will continue until no longer than 5 minutes before half the available batting time. This will also apply at the allocated finishing time, unless it is necessary to complete an over already in progress If the start of play is delayed for any legitimate reason, the total playing time will be assessed as from the actual commencement of play. The minutes lost will be divided by 7 to assess the number of overs the game will be reduced for each team. (See Time Lost: Time Remaining Calculator below.) 21 SECTION F: PROTESTS 36. The following procedure will apply with respect to any Protest concerning the result of a 1 st XI game: As soon as possible but by no later than 12.00pm on the Monday immediately following the fixture, the GPS Sport and Activities Committee member from the school that is protesting the result is to inform the GPS Executive Officer of the Association, the Chairman of the GPS Sport and Activities Committee and the Chairman of the GPS Cricket Sub-Committee of the possibility of a formal protest being made and of the circumstances As soon as possible but by no later than 4.00pm on the Monday immediately following the fixture, any Official Protest is to be sent by the GPS Sport and Activities Committee member of the school protesting the result, to the GPS Executive Officer by The GPS Executive Officer is to acknowledge receipt of the Protest The GPS Sport and Activities Committee member is also to contact the GPS Executive Officer by telephone advising of the Official Protest Any Official Protest is to be made on the Protest Form in the Appendix and is to clearly outline the reason for the Protest and the appropriate details On receipt of the Protest, the GPS Executive Officer will inform the Chairman of the GPS Sport and Activities Committee and the GPS Sport and Activities Committee member of the schools concerned The GPS Executive Officer will then forward the Protest to the Chairman and members of the GPS Executive Committee of the Association The GPS Executive Committee will consider the Protest and if the Protest is upheld, determine any penalty Following determination of the Protest by the GPS Executive Committee, the GPS Executive Officer will inform the Headmasters and GPS Sport and Activities Committee members of all schools of the results of the protest.
