3 Facts About the Bowl-A-Thon The 11th Annual UNCF Bowl-A-Thon is on Saturday, February, 27, 2016 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Woodland Bowl 3421 E. 96th Street. Team check-in will be from 12:00pm-12:30pm. We ask that only Team Captains check-in for their team, once all team members have arrived on site. How does the Bowl-A-Thon raise money? Register to create a team or join a team by visiting our website: The registration fee is $20 per bowler. The team captain pays the registration fee when he/she registers the team. Each bowling team must include at least 4 bowlers, NO EXCEPTIONS. Maximum of 6 bowlers per team. Each team is encouraged to raise a minimum of $1,000-$1,500 (based on the number of bowlers) total. Therefore, each individual bowler is encouraged to raise $250 or more, by soliciting pledges from friends, family, or corporations. It s as simple as asking 20 people to donate $12.50!! We encourage each bowler to have friends, family, etc., make pledges on their behalf via their webpage or a hardcopy pledge form will be made available upon request. It is the Team Captain s responsibility to make sure that all team member s donations have been collected and turned in, prior to or no later than event day. All donations should be turned in via the individual webpage, UNCF Office or any Bowl-A-Thon Committee Member. Team Levels Corporate Team: $1,000 - Team/Company name or logo will be listed on the Event logo board. - Team will receive recognition throughout the event. - All team members will receive a UNCF hat. Community Team: $500 - Team will receive recognition at the Event Kickoff. - All team members will receive a UNCF hat. Friends of UNCF Team: Registration Fee Only $20 per person (Team has a minimum fundraising goal of $500) **Teams that raise a minimum of $500 will receive a UNCF hat for each team member** Who can participate in the Bowl-A-Thon? ANYONE! EVERYONE! YOU CAN! Children can participate but those under the age of 18 must have their parents /guardians permission. Where do I sign up and/or obtain more information? 4 2015/16 Prizes & Awards A vital part of the fund raising effort is the collection of pledges by everyone participating. The goal of $50,000 can be reached if each participant solicits sponsors or donors. *Prizes will be awarded to each eligible INDIVIDUAL bowler that raises the most money through pledges and/or donations by February 12, 2016! See prize list below: 1st Prize: TWO ROUND TRIP AIRLINE TICKETS FOR WINNER AND COMPANION, ANYWHERE IN THE CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES. (Must raise $1,500 minimum to qualify). 2nd Level: Raise $1,000 - $1,499 and win an ipad Mini. 3rd Level: Raise $750-$999 and win a Sky wifi Smart Pen by Livescribe. 4th Level: Raise $500-$749 and win a UNCF nylon jogging suit. * Please make sure that each INDIVIDUAL bowler (who qualifies for prizes above) has accurate contact information to ensure that they receive the prize that they have chosen. All individual bowlers are guaranteed a prize in the above categories, if they qualify. (A combined team donation does not qualify). Prizes are awarded based on the amount of individual money turned in by February 12, Please indicate which prize you have selected on your sponsor form, when you turn in your money. (UNCF reserves the right to substitute prizes of equal value.) The team that donates the most money will receive a trophy on day of event. (A minimum donation of $1, per team to qualify for the trophy). **Teams that raise a minimum of $500 will receive a UNCF Hat for each team member** One trophy will also be given to the team (of employees who represent a corporation) that raises the most money. A special prize will go out to the highest scoring female & male bowler for each game. Commemorative t-shirts will be given to all registered participants. Each bowler participant will receive a raffle ticket. Door prizes will be awarded periodically throughout the event!

5 TEAM CAPTAIN ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES Involve your upper management. Get other members of your company involved to help plan the campaign. Organize and control registrations and the distribution of sponsor sheets. Collect forms and money from bowlers on time! Keep organized bowler information names and telephone numbers and copies of forms and money collected. Act as liaison between your company/organization and the UNCF Bowl-A-Thon committee and staff. Be a source of information. The target date to turn in money is February 12, 2016, but no later than February, 27, 2016.NO EXCEPTIONS!

6 TEAM CAPTAIN S CHECKLIST Remind bowlers of the very positive benefits of the Bowl-A-Thon. Also, inform them of the T-shirt they ll receive for participating! Encourage participants to collect their pledges on and turn their pledges over to you. Each individual bowler is encouraged to turn in at least $250 or more along with the Pledge form by February 12, 2016 to ensure eligibility for prizes mentioned on page 4 of the handbook. *Pledge forms are not applicable if all donations are made via your webpage. All monies must be received by each individual bowler no later than February 27, 2016, No Exceptions. Remind all participants of time and meeting place for day of Bowl-A-Thon. Remind all participants that check in and registration will take place between 12:00pm-12:30pm on day of event. Only the team captain should check in for all team participants, once all members arrive. Important Dates to Remember *EARLY REGISTRATION DEADLINE December 18, 2015 Pledge Money turned in for prize eligibility February 12, 2016 BOWL-A-THON February 27, 2016 * Early registrants will receive a secured spot in the Cosmic Bowl section, along with their name placed in a drawing for a special prize! 7 Get upper management involved! Promote the Bowl-A-Thon. Research shows that it takes exposures to an idea for people to remember it. Find/read and know your company policy for matching gifts. Locate and become familiar with your company s policy for matching gifts. Distribute sponsor forms/matching gift forms. PLEASE register by January 15, 2016 to ensure t-shirts for your team. Schedule and hold session(s) to start the campaign. Things to consider: Announce the meetings by having a top level management person invite employees to the presentations. Have top management kick-off the campaign. Make view graphs if desired or necessary (use pages and/or information from this Handbook).

(UNCF) office at (317) Bowling for Scholars Check-in time is 12:00-12:30. Team Captains check-in for entire team, once all team has arrived on site. Festivities begin promptly at 1:00 p.m.

9 Publicity & Matching Funds PUBLICITY KITS UNCF will provide free publicity kits to any corporation or organization that requests one through the UNCF office. Publicity kits will include posters, and flyers. MATCHING FUNDS Many corporations match donations to UNCF. Taking advantage of a company s matching gift program can double or triple the value of your gift. You simply fill out a matching gift form and send it with your contribution. Your company s matching donation will count towards your total amount raised and your prize. These forms are available from your human resources department, foundation or community relations department. Please take this extra step to help thousands of young adults obtain a quality education. Remember double your pledges and double your donations! Check with your Human Resources/Personnel Department for your company s matching gift policy. A copy of your company s matching gift form MUST be attached to the sponsor s check so that the Bowl-A-Thon will receive a tax credit.
