Wiltshire Cricket Workforce Education Programme
COACH EDUCATION Offering a quality Coach Education programme and opportunities for coaches to learn and develop is a big priority for Wiltshire Cricket. At the moment there are hundreds of coaches working across the county at club, district and county level and there is a huge amount of support available to coaches at each of these levels. THE PATHWAY
ECB COACH SUPPORT WORKER COURSE COACH SUPPORT ENVIRONMENT The Coach Support Worker course is ideal for someone who wants to help and support a qualified coach in the delivery and organisation of games and sessions but may not have the time, inclination or sport specific knowledge to qualify as a coach. This vital role supports the coach in action and development of players predominantly in the club environment. The course focuses on practical learning allowing you to understand how to make sessions safe; lead warm-ups and cool downs; and run different types of practice. 1 x six-hour workshop. You must be 16 years of age and complete a recognised safeguarding module (ECB Safeguarding Young Cricketers online workshop) and be DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service, formerly CRB) checked. This course is aimed at individuals who wish to assist under the direct supervision of ECB qualified coaches in the delivery of high quality practical cricket coaching sessions within a club environment DATES Course 1 - Saturday 25th October, 9am - 4pm, Dauntsey's School Course 2 - Sunday 16th November, 9am - 4pm, Sarum Academy, Salisbury Course 3 - Saturday 20th December, 11.30am - 6pm, Isambard Academy, Swindon Course 4 - Saturday 28th March, 9am - 4pm, Dauntsey's School COST - 50 per candidate
ECB CRICKET ACTIVATOR COURSE COACH SUPPORT ENVIRONMENT The playing of cricket will not happen without a lot of things, which are often hidden to people, being done. If you want to make cricket happen, in whatever capacity, this course is right for you, especially if you are a young person exploring various options of how you can support cricket and develop yourself personally. The course will help you identify and understand the roles that make cricket happen and the development of ideas to promote cricket in your community. An ideal course for anyone wishing to volunteer in any way in organising cricket and signposts you to other opportunities to progress as part of the cricket community. After the workshop, you will then have the opportunity to get involved by making cricket happen in your environment. 1 x four-hour workshop with off course activities to complete also. Open to all, no upper or lower age limit. The course can be delivered in a bespoke manner to help clubs or groups of people to be able to plan, organise and deliver large projects relevant to you. The course helps volunteers to be able to break down projects into constituent parts to allow for better planning and understanding of the roles that are required to organise: A kwik cricket festival Starting a youth section Planning and running a family fun day/fundraising event DATES The Cricket Activator course will be arranged for a school or club upon request. If you would like to hold a course at your club or school, you will firstly require a minimum of six candidates. You will also require a facility with an indoor back up. The course duration is six hours but this can be spread over two sessions of three hours or three sessions of two hours. To enquire regarding holding a Cricket Activator course please contact pete.sykes@wiltshirecricket.co.uk
Which course is for you? UKCC2 CERTIFICATE COURSES The ECB UKCC2 certificate courses ask the potential coach candidate a couple of simple questions? 1. "With which group of players are you intending to predominently work?" 2. "How can you make your coaching sessions most appropriate to the players you coach?" The answer to these two questions will direct you to one of the UKCC2 courses: ECB Certificate in Coaching Children's Cricket (UKCC Level 2) ECB Certificate in Coaching Young People and Adults' Cricket (UKCC Level 2) If your coaching enviroment lends you to coaching children, then that is the course for you. If you are already involved in working with young people and adults, then your option is the Young People and Adults course. Whichever course you decide to attend, the course content will be the same, however the methods used will be different. The courses will introduce you to: the role of the coach and developing your coaches philosophy - introducing the "Howzat" resource creating your "Coaches Kitbag" using different types of practice - fixed/variable/game based planning effective coaching sessions using the five areas of player development - technical, tactical, physical, mental and life style develop your coaching skills, knowledge and qualities to best suit the players you are working with demonstrate competence against UKCC2/National Standard for coaches

WELFARE AND FIRST AID SAFE HANDS Safe Hands is the required workshop for all Welfare Officers and seeks to ensure that each club is aware of the role of the Welfare Officer within the framework of child protection. The course will cover core legislation and government guidance, as well as giving you the opportunity to talk to other Welfare Officers from across the county to share experience and good practice. Every Club Welfare Officer must have attended this course (the course must be renewed every three years). and it is important that your club checks to ensure that they have been represented at the workshop. The ECB has produced Safe Hands Cricket s Policy for Safeguarding Children as part of its commitment to ensuring that the game provides a safe, friendly and enjoyable experience for children. The Policy provides the sport with the tools to ensure that the whole game takes up the challenge of continuously improving the participation conditions for children. Safe Hands greatly enhances the value of existing activities and practices throughout ECB's extensive club and schools network and ensures that the many thousands of coaches and volunteers integral to the game are supported. The Policy is backed up by a comprehensive training and education programme, a structured implementation plan and a sensitive process to respond to concerns. 19 LEAGUE REQUIREMENTS Umpires SUPPORTING INFORMATION WEPL have agreed to restart the three year cycle of every club training a new umpire within that time period. It was agreed that the training can come in the form of either the introductory course and/or Level 1. Failure to put a person on course within the three year cycle will be met with a sanction. It has been agreed by WEPL that the cycle will start in January 2015, meaning the end of the third year will be in time for the start of the 2017 season as clubs will have had the January to April periods of 2015, 2016 and 2017 to attend a course. This would mean that sanctions will be enforced for the first time, on any club who has not put someone through a course, for the 2017 season. COURSE SELECTOR Coaches The ECB has developed an online course selector to help you choose the course that will best suit your needs. This valuable tool will help you identify the pathway that best fits your own unique circumstances and enable you to play your part in helping more people to enjoy playing cricket. To use the ECB course selector, go to and follow the step-by-step guide WEBSITE The Wiltshire Cricket website has been updated to provide details around all of the courses contained within this information pack.
