April 2015 Unfortunately that s another bowling season over, many of you like me would prefer the pennant season to go ten or eleven months of the year and have one or two months off for the break.

Bowling Saturdays during the off season is a good way to help keep or improve your technique and/or capacities as a bowler.

1 April 2015 Unfortunately that s another bowling season over, many of you like me would prefer the pennant season to go ten or eleven months of the year and have one or two months off for the break. That s me being greedy I suppose. Then again I could and have played on a Saturday during the off season and thoroughly enjoyed it. Bowling Saturdays during the off season is a good way to help keep or improve your technique and/or capacities as a bowler. On these days you have the opportunity to play in different positions thus also improving your skills. The end results for our pennant teams for this year has been mixed, however I am very pleased to declare we achieved pennants in Wednesday Metro 3 North and Saturday Metro 3 East. Congratulations to those teams on a job well done. Whilst taking of job well done I would personally like to thank the selection panel for all grades, the Bowls Committee, the night owl group, the Management Board, the raffle sellers, all the volunteers and of course the ladies and gents that worked tirelessly on every event we have at the club. This year we have missed the hardworking passionate Chairman of Selectors Allan Fisher in the selection room. I can tell you from experience (when I did selection) that Allan s evaluation of a team or his opinion on any subject during selection was highly valued. His professionalism, his ability to communicate at all levels and his high stand ards o f achievement was missed this year not only at the selection table but as a player and great club man. Whether you continue to bowl through the off-season or take a break, I recommend you stay in contact with your club: Newsletters; the Web site; or, even the Club Bar. 2 Page 2 The Newsletter of Clearview Bowling Club Bowls Committee Newsletter Editor: Ken Sleeman cbc.bowling.committee@gmail.com Web: From the Bowls Chair: I would like to start this newsletter report with a general thank you to all members for their support of the Bowls Committee and myself this season. It has been a terrific season with a generally good feel and vibe around the club. The Bowls Committee has done a great job this season and it was my honour to be their Chairperson. I would also like to thank the Management Board for their support. It was great to see the club earning two pennants this season and to also see, with a couple of exceptions, most of our other teams finish in at least a position to avoid relegation. As I said at our End of Season Celebrations, I anticipate seeing success breeding more success next season. Our Club Championships, Night Owls and Social Tournaments are also important facets to our club. Our off green activities too, like our Christmas Dinner, After Pennant Barbeques, Friday Social Nights and functions like the End of Season Celebration lunch are just as important to a lot of our members as well. All of these things were of great enjoyment to all members who took part in them. So for now, again thank you all for a truly terrific season. Now you can enjoy the social bowls on Wednesday & Saturday or take time off to enjoy the footy season, seeing more of your family and non bowling friends or just recharge your batteries ready for the 2015 / 16 season it ll be upon us before we all know it! With assistance from Bakas IT who are our website hosts, a sub committee of Ken Sleeman, Di Harder & myself designed a more user friendly site for everyone to use. 3 WINTER BOWLS SEASON 2015 Even though we are a few months from winter, lets say our after pennant season social bowls or Winter Bowls as it s become better known, competition has started. We are again running 3 Bowl Triples on Wednesday and the bowls committee thanks both Mary Grantham & Frank Bennedetti for agreeing to coordinate this competition. On Saturday we have two new coordinators for our Fours competition. John Davies & Peter Graham have come on board for the first time and while we welcome & thank them, I would like to mention that both Rachel Dean & Mary Grantham have taken some time off from the job this year but we thank those ladies for their work for the past number of seasons. The organizing of these days is not as easy as one might think and the task can get time consuming and messy especially if teams are not entered in the correct way. To help alleviate these problems, the Bowls Committee has suggested 5 Golden Rules for entering your team. Please read and follow these simple rules. 5 GOLDEN RULES FOR ENTERING TEAMS DURING WINTER BOWLS: 1. Please place all team members names on the signup sheet. 2. Please check that your team is entered only once. 3. Please be as neat as possible. 4. Please include a contact phone number. 5. When selecting a single entry player from the list consider taking the first listed. contact the player. please put your team number next to the players name to indicate who has taken him/her. These 5 Simple Rules will assist the Day s Organizers greatly and ensure a smooth running tournament for YOUR convenience Page 3

8 2015 State Multi-Disability Championships The first ever BSA Disability State Championships was held at Clearview 9-12 th. April. This was to include bowlers from DRSSA (Wombats), Blind Bowlers & Inclusive Sport SA however the Blind Bowlers & Inclusive Sport SA were not able to field entries this year. Seventeen bowlers in the physically disabled category competed; comprising many we know from the Wombats and three visitors from interstate. Thank yous go to Leon Harder as Manager, the markers & umpires, plus bar, kitchen & greens personnel. Page 8

10 Page 10 SECURE OUR CLUBS FUTURE: The Bowls Committee started the season off with an attempt to recruit new members to our club. We saw it as a priority after losing a n u m b e r o f members in the last couple of seasons. While our determined efforts weren t as successful as one would have hoped, I think we took an important step in t h e r i g h t d i r e c t i o n t o securing our clubs future. Whilst no-one yet knows who will be on the Bowls Committee this next season, I still think it should be a priority for the new committee. It is my belief that Clearview needs to keep recruiting new members; not only novice bowlers but a handful of bowlers with a bit of experience would help the clubs future endeavours immensely. I m very proud of the talented bowlers we have at Clearview but a few more won t go astray. Whilst I m sure the incoming committee will look at things we did this year like letter box drops and a, Come & Try bowls day, we need more ideas and a more active a n d su c c e s s f u l approach. I urge you, as members to play your part in this too. Speak to your friends, family & neighbours about trying our great game. And if you know of anybody at other clubs who may be looking for a change of scenery or better opportunities, let them know how good our club is. If there are any ideas you have for recruiting new members, talk to me or a committee person. Dave Bailey SCHOOLS COACHING. Over the coming months our greens will be used by two visiting schools as part of their physical education program. Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College and Roma Mitchell Secondary College will be coached by our Club Coaches Allan Weber and David Bailey.

NIGHT OWLS This week saw the end of our Night Owls program for this season.

11 NIGHT OWLS This week saw the end of our Night Owls program for this season. Unfortunately the weather played a big part on the last night of competition but the supper and celebrations did not dampen anyone s spirits. Sharks were the big winner this season, finishing top of the table after only losing the one game. Statesmen finished a very close second, while third place went to Late Starters. Congratulations to those winning teams and to all other teams that competed. I m sure you enjoyed the competition. Many thanks to the organizers Rachel Dean & Mary Grantham as well as their helpers Jim Cazzaloto, Ian Bailey and many others. Page 11
