2 Jeff & Deb Hansen Agriculture Student Learning Center The facility is unique to Iowa State University and nearly all of the Midwest, allowing animal-human interaction through teaching laboratories, outreach activities and a variety of functions for future and current students. As a keystone in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences efforts to train students for a diverse set of opportunities in animal science, agriculture, and related fields; the center provides an inviting environment for recruiting young people interested in learning more about the vast career opportunities within the agriculture industry. A variety of student organizations use the facility to conduct meetings, host events, and network. The Hansen Center employs several Iowa State University students from a multitude of majors and backgrounds. In addition, the facility holds a wide range of events outside Iowa State University, such as business meetings, formal dinners, and private celebrations. 3 Welcome Our 2016 Production Sale is fast approaching. Our student managed production sale will be a great learning experience for our future beef leaders. I want to personally thank the students for their hard work and dedication on this project. I look back on our herd and I am very pleased with the progress we have made putting together a problem free cow herd that adds value to the consumer s plate. Not too many years ago, Gene Rouse and I started the Simmental herd. Though we have made a lot of improvements, the Simmental breed is as popular as ever. Right now the Beef Teaching herd is focusing on a true SimAngus herd. We will offer a few bulls through our private treaty sale at noon before the female sale and offer an opportunity to purchase SimAngus embryos out of our most prolific Angus cow family. The Angus herd was established in Ames in Hopefully we have made strides maintaining good cows and great genetics. The Angus sale is offering a full range of opens and breds that will be an asset to improving your genetic base. This opportunity allows students to gain hands-on experience in seedstock merchandising. 14 Private Treaty Bull Offering Private Treaty Sale Terms Bull Sale All bulls will have a pre-priced base. If more than one buyer wants the same bull, a private auction will be conducted between those buyers at 12 noon in $100 increments to determine the purchaser. Any bull not selling on January 30th will be offered on a first come basis at the base price. A volume discount is offered for the purchase of two or more bulls at $100 per bull. Another discount of $100 per bull is offered if you pick up your bull/bulls at the Iowa State University Beef Teaching Farm. If you wish to have your bull delivered, ISU will deliver free of charge anywhere in the state of Iowa. The bulls will be examined for breeding soundness and will have health papers before they leave the farm.
