7 GENERAL INFORMATION RULES: This non-qualifying competition will be conducted in accordance with the rules of the RULEBOOK OF THE USFS, incorporating the new requirements for the season. All events will be judged using the 6.0 judging system. All skaters must be members in good standing of U. S. Figure Skating (USFS). They must belong to a member club of the Philadelphia Area Association or be an individual member of the USFSA residing in the Philadelphia Area. Only skaters who designate a Philadelphia Area Club as HOME CLUB may put their points toward the BEMJAMIN F. LEE TROPHY for the most points accrued by a club in the competition. Please note, however, that one partner in dance or pairs may live outside the area. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS: A tentative schedule of events will be posted on the PSC&HS website ( as soon as possible after the close of entries. Skaters, parents and coaches should check back regularly for any changes. Knowledge of the final schedule is the personal responsibility of each entrant. With exception of the first event of the day, competitors are required to check in a minimum of one (1) hour before their scheduled event. EVENTS AND ELIGIBILITY: In order to encourage participation, there are no combined events. Short programs and freeskating will be separate events. Compulsory dances, original dance and free dance will also be separate events. Winners from prior years must move up to the next level, except Senior. A partner of a previous winning team may re-enter the event with a new partner. SKATERS MAY ENTER ANY EVENT FOR WHICH THEY QUALIFY OR MAY SKATE UP ONE LEVEL BUT MAY NOT ENTER BOTH LEVELS IN THE SAME EVENT. A skater deciding to skate up in one event is not required to skate up a level in all events. Date of birth is required on every entry form. Age and test status as of March, 2008 will determine the competitor s eligibility All Snowplow Sam and Basic Skills Skaters must skate at highest level passed and NO official U.S. Figure Skating tests may have been passed including MIF or individual dances. Skaters in Freeskate Levels 1 and 2 may skate at highest level passed OR one level higher BUT not both and may have passed pre-preliminary moves in the field. COMPOSITION OF EVENTS: All events will be judged using the 6.0 judging system. In any event where entries exceed fifteen (15) skaters, skaters will be divided by age into smaller groups. If no competition is available in a category, a skater may exhibit, if time allows. However, no trophy will be awarded. AWARDS AND TROPHIES: Philadelphia Area medals will be awarded to the top four (4) skaters in each event. For trophy events, if there is more than one group, a skate-off will determine the winner of the trophy. A memento will be awarded to the winner of each trophy event. Only the winner will be announced. Special trophies will be awarded for: EXCELLENCE IN FREESKATING: The Wissahickon Skating Club Trophy for excellence in freeskating goes to the Novice, Junior or Senior skater with the highest freeskating score. ARTISTIC PERFORMANCE: The Bulletin Cup for artistic performance goes to the Novice, Junior or Senior skater judged during their freekating performance by an independent panel of non-skating judges to determine the most artistically expressive performance. CLUB ACCRUING THE MOST POINTS: The top four skaters or teams in each separate event accrue points for their respective clubs. The Benjamin F. Lee Trophy is awarded to the club with the most points at the finish of the competition. Page 4 of 16

8 ENTRY: The entry forms are enclosed separately. Entries must be postmarked no later then March, Postage metered mail will not be accepted as proof of timely mailing. Individual members of the USFSA or skaters who live in the confines of the APAFSC but do not have an APAFSC club as their home club must pay a non-member fee of $5.00 per event in addition to the entry fee. Late entries will be accepted at the discretion of the local competition committee, subject to $25 late fee. NO REFUNDS will be granted except for the events cancelled by the Referee. There will be a $30 fee charged for every returned check. EVENTS WITH GROUPS: Groups will be judged separately with awards for each group. There will be a skate-off held for the group winners for all freeskating and trophy events. RINK: All events will be held at the Philadelphia Skating Club & Humane Society in Ardmore, PA. The rink has one ice surface. The ice surface measures 195 feet by 85 feet with NO boards. (5 edge) SMOKING IS NOT PERMITTED IN THE RINK. Flash photography will NOT be permitted during events. PRACTICE: If practice ice is available a schedule will be sent with the tentative competition schedule after the close of events. Any time available will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. TENTATIVE SCHEDULE: A tentative schedule will be mailed to competitors as soon as possible after the entry deadline of March, To receive a tentative schedule, you must enclose a stamped self-addressed envelope with your entry. A tentative schedule of events will be posted on our website at pschs.org. MUSIC: Unplayable music media may result in disqualification from your event. The club will provide music for compulsory dances. For all other events with music, pre-recorded cassettes, CD s or mini disks will be accepted. They must be clearly marked with name, event, and music length. Each tape, CD or mini-disk must have only one track recorded on it. Due to compatibility and reliability reasons no music may be submitted on re-recordable CD- RW discs. Please pick up your music promptly after your event has ended. All possible care will be taken, however, PSC&HS assumes no responsibility or liability due to loss or damage to any music. All competitors must have duplicate music available at rinkside during their event in case of a problem with the original tape or disk. Page 5 of 16

9 REGISTRATION: Upon arrival, please register at the Registration Desk. You will receive any skater s information at that time. ADMISSION: There will be NO admission charge for spectators. VIDEO/PHOTOS: Professional videotaping and or still photography will be available at the competition. If personal videotaping is done, only battery-operated equipment will be permitted. HOUSING: The official host hotel for the competition is The Hampton Inn, 2055 Chemical Road, Plymouth Meeting, PA, When making reservations, be sure to advise them that you will be skating in the Philadelphia Areas competition to receive the reduced rate of $89 per night.. COMPOSITION OF EVENTS GENERAL: You may enter the event for which you have passed the required test, or one level higher but not both levels in the same event. If you won your level last year, you must move up to the next level, except Senior. Short and long programs are separate events. Program requirements at all levels will be according to the USFSA Rulebook for the season. Please note that for Short Programs, either the or the requirements may be used. Technical skating, skill and difficulty are not marked. HOWEVER, the skating must be a major element of the performance and of sufficient competence to support the theatrical components chosen. Skaters can enter only one level of showcase based on their Freeskating level. For the safety of skaters, do not use feathers or dangling beads that may come off the costume during the performance.
