Wendt General Meeting Aug 4, 2018 Convened at 10 AM 12 of 79 members present no quorum Club VP Wayne opened the meeting in the absence of the President, who was ill. Wayne asked about what we were doing about lowering the required attendance to make quorum. Tom said he was supposed to look it up but hasn t yet. Will do ASAP. Old Business Stelio asked about the take-off lines painted on the runway. Wayne pointed out the fence sign says you must take off after the lines, but the club rules only suggest you do, they don t require it. Wayne suggested the sign be corrected to match the rules, to which everyone agreed. He will make up decals to correct it. Jonathan said he has a friend in the canopy business. He will see about getting patch material to repair the holes in the canopies. New Business Stelio asked about a broken windsock. Walter says he has them and will replace it. Continued ~ 2 ~

Would like some help with the parking. Jonathan and Tom said they d help. Meeting adjourned at 10:16 AM President s Message Brian Boyle Hello fellow pilots, where do the days go! Want to take the time and thank Jonathan for the fantastic lunch he prepared for this last Otay float fly! Wow! He even had corn on the cob, Thank you. It was a great turn out for the day for those who flew, me not so fun, for a day off you'd think I'd relax and enjoy a day at the lake flying, nope, work kept calling every 5 to 10 minutes, so l cut my time short went home only to talk the mechanic through trouble shooting an escalator for another hour. So I didn't get to enjoy lunch from Jonathan. Saturday is our club meeting and I will be seeing you ALL there. Brian ~ 3 ~

4 VP Message Wayne Bolin Today, Sunday the 26th, we found a table full of Lipo batteries that someone decided to use our club for as a trash pit. these batteries, most are puffed, some have nails driven through them, all have the cables cut off, they are clearly someones garbage. These are not helicopter batteries as they are not the discharge rate that heli pilots use. They are 3s - 6s batteries, cheap batteries. LiPo batteries HAVE to be disposed of properly. They cannot simply be put in the trash and using our club as a trash dump say a lot about this persons character. Whoever is responsible for this has put the responsibility on the club to throw out your trash. This will need to be discussed at the meeting this Saturday to discuss how to get rid of them. If anyone know who is responsible for this, please let any club officer know so we can deal with this appropriately. 6 The heli fun fly is Officially starting Friday at 7:00AM through Sunday afternoon Sept No fixed wing aircraft allowed due to the nature of the flight stations (4) along the runway. I fully expect early RV arrivals on Thursday all day. They (including myself) will be parking in the dirt hover area. Volunteers are needed (Please) For Friday Saturday and Sunday. Any help will be much appreciated. We are expecting around 45 pilots. Thanks, Don ~ 6 ~

7 National Model Aviation Day Fun Fly We had a fun time raising money for Warrior Foundation Freedom Station San Diego at the NMAD Fun Fly. With 24 registered pilots, and a generous anonymous donation, we raised $468 for our cause. A record for us, I think. A big thanks to everyone attending, and of course Stelio for cooking the (very tasty!) grub, and Jonathan for getting the food, bringing the trailer and assisting in the kitchen. ~ 7 ~

8 Power Line CARNAGE Club member Michael Pietrzak sent in these photos (with permission!) of what remains of Steven Liebold s once beautiful A-4 Skyhawk after its encounter with the dreaded power lines. Thanks for sharing. It s a good reminder for us all to keep those wires in the back of our minds. Sorry for your loss, Steven! Thanks! 9 Swap Meet This year s swap meet had a pretty good turnout. Hope y all found something special, or made space for something special. Thanks Walter for running the show, and thanks Jonathan (Hey! Where ISN T Jon helping?) keeping the parking straight. ~ 9 ~

10 August Float Fly I was told it was a spectacular morning at the lake and I say "was" because I did not make it as early as I wanted to. But at the time that I arrived I was pleasantly surprised to see how many people were attending the float fly, I could hardly find a spot to park my car. I always say that if I get that many participants at the Annual Float Fly as I get at the bi-monthly fun flys it will be a successful event. I made it just in time to start helping Chef Jonathan with the delectable carne asada meal he had prepared for the pilots and other attendees. Jonathan offered to relieve me from the duty of cooking my boring hots dogs. His impressive presentation of the carne asada accompanied with re-fried beans, tortillas, chopped onion, cilantro, salsa, and boiled corn made it for an unforgettable lunch. And to top it off his lovely wife Lia made an equally delicious desert of Flan. People were so impressed that they insisted on making a donation (which I gladly accepted) to the tune of $30. Tim Attaway also gave us a helping hand when things got hectic during serving as people flocked the food table once they realized what we had in store for them. Flying was good too with minimal need for the rescue boat. You would think that this was a food fest and not a fun fly by how much time I spent writing about the food instead of the flying. But it reflects what I was busy ~ 10 ~

11 with due to my late arrival and also being responsible for the running of the show. Eventually as the crowds thinned out I had a chance to put in one flight. Well, this was the last bi-monthly fun fly. Our next event at the lake is the Annual Otay Lake Float Fly on October the 20th. I can't promise that the food or the weather will be as spectacular but we will have lots of raffle prizes. See you then. Stilianos Jackson ~ 11 ~
