Executive Salon 5 $15 Larry Offner Catch Cormier 117: Nymph Fishing Techniques

5 Friday May 6th: 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm Norm Crisp Two of the great truisms of fly fishing are that 90 percent of the fish are caught by 10 percent of the fisherman, and that trout do 90 percent of their feeding underwater! What that 10 % knows that the rest of us don t is the subtleties of nymph fishing. They know how to make sure they get their nymph into the trout s feeding zone, and where to position themselves for the best presentation and chance for a hook-up. This program will give the answer to the question of what separates a good nympher from a great nympher. Woodlawn Lake - Casting Area 1 $15 124: Stacy Lynn - Diagnosing Your Cast Friday May 6th: 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Class Size Limit: 8 $25 Stacy Lynn Certified FFF Casting Instructor Is something just not right with your cast? a funny shaped loop; can t get the fly to land where you want; not enough line speed to cast the distance you want; your double haul is more like a double dribble; whatever! In this class, participants will learn to examine, analyze, diagnose, and correct many of life s little fly casting issues. Participants will be evaluated individually, and take part in group analysis and diagnostic exercises. Proper (and improper) casting fundamentals and techniques will be reviewed. Participants need some casting experience, and should be prepared to be outside for the entire class. This class is for both women and men. Woodlawn Lake - Casting Area 1 125: David Lemke - Coping With The Wind Class Size Limit: 8 $25 Friday May 6th: 10:00 am to Noon David Lemke The purpose of this clinic is to provide the intermediate fly caster with a tool kit to deal with environmental challenges that can turn a bad day into a good day. Wind is a fact of life along the Gulf Coast. A perfectly good fishing day can be ruined if you don t know how to manage casting in windy conditions. Many people just go home because the wind is too much for them. Developing good casting skills and applying a few techniques can make the day s fishing enjoyable rather than frustrating. Students must be able to form reasonably tight loops, and consistently cast up to 40 feet. Students should bring their own gear. Woodlawn Lake - Casting Area 2 126: Gary Davison - Spey Casting Workshop Friday May 6th: 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Gary Davison

7 This workshop for beginning and intermediate spey casters begins with a short 45 minute classroom session followed by 2 hours on the water casting. The primary focus of this program is the use of a two handed spey rod using WF floating type lines. The classroom session addresses the basic principles behind spey casting, and will address the equipment, the types of casts needed based on the water conditions and wind direction, and the different types of lines (Skagit and Shooting Heads) used in spey casting. Once the class session is completed, we will move to Woodlawn Lake for hands-on actual implementation on the water. We will begin with the switch cast as the beginning cast, move on to the double spey, and if time permits, teach the single spey cast.
