DIRECTIONS To operate spring action of tool, hold tool between thumb and index finder at knurled nut. To open tool, pull down on knurled nut. The open end of tool is what catches tag end of line. IMPORTANT It is best to follow these directions with line and tool in hand. Always have hook or swivel on line except for End Loop. TIPS Always wet line before pulling knots tight. This prevents line burn. Never set knots with tool! Always set knots by pulling main line and tackle! REFER TO OUR WEBSITE FOR KNOT TYING INSTRUCTIONS A Handy Tool For All Fishermen!
Using the NEW FLY & HOOK THREADER 1 Turn the tool to pick up fly or hook with magnet. 2 Lay the line in the slot & push through the eye. 3 Now your fly or hook is threaded and you are ready to tie the knot. 1
CLINCH KNOT 1 Thread line through eye of hook or swivel. 2 Form a loop with hook or swivel at bottom. 3 Insert tool through loop. 4 Move tool in circular motion forming 5 twists in line. 5 Open tool and catch tag end of line. 6 Pull tool and tag end through loop. 2
CLINCH KNOT (continued) 7 With fingers, pull knot tight by pulling on main line and hook or swivel. DO NOT USE TOOL TO PULL KNOT TIGHT. 8 Completed knot. TRILINE KNOT 1 Thread line through eye of hook or swivel 2 times. 2 Form 2 loops. 3 Insert tool through both loops. 4 Move tool in circular motion forming 5 twists in line. 3
TRILINE KNOT (continued) 5 Open tool and catch tag end of line. 6 Pull tool and tag end through both loops. 7 With fingers, pull knot tight by pulling on main line and hook or swivel. DO NOT USE TOOL TO PULL KNOT TIGHT. 8 Completed knot. BLOOD KNOT (CLINCH) 1 Form loop between forefinger and thumb. 2 Insert tool through loop. 4
BLOOD KNOT (CLINCH) (continued) 3 Move tool in circular motion forming 5 twists in line. 4 Open tool and catch tag end of line. 5 Pull tool and tag end through loop. 6 As shown - DO NOT PULL TIGHT. 7 Thread line to be spliced through top loop of knot at tag end. 8 Form loop as shown. 9 Insert tool through loop and hold bottom line with tool in hand. Move tool in circular motion forming 5 twists in line. 5

END LOOP/DROPPER LOOP 1 Make a large loop as though you were going to do a Clinch Knot, holding loop between thumb and index finger. 2 With other hand, pull down on loop and bring line around middle finger. 6
5 Open tool and catch top single line loop. END LOOP/DROPPER LOOP (continued) 3 Bring double lines back to thumb and index finger holding original loop. This forms a double line loop below thumb and index finger and a single line loop above thumb and index finger. 4 Insert tool through double line loop and twist 3 times. 6 Pull loop through twists. 7 Remove tool and pull tight with fingers. 1 Make overhand knot as shown in pictures 1 and 2. J.R. LOOP KNOT Gives more action to baits 7
J.R. LOOP KNOT (continued) 2 Complete overhand knot as shown. DO NOT PULL TIGHT. 3 Insert on tag end hook, swivel, jig or surface bait. 4 Form loop as shown. 5 Put tool through overhand knot. 6 Make 5 twists as shown. 7 Open tool and catch tag end of line. 8
10 Completed knot. J.R. LOOP KNOT (continued) 8 Pull tag end through as shown. 9 With fingers, pull knot tight by pulling on main line and hook or swivel. Hint: The size of finished Loop Knot can be adjusted to any size. The Larger or Smaller the loop made in Step 8 will dictate the finished loop size. SHANK TIE (SNELL) For grooved end of tool 1 Thread line through eye of hook downward along shank extending 6 inches past hook. 2 Place hook and tag end of line into groove of tyer with eye of hook toward center of tyer. Tool must be held with thumb and middle finger. Pinch line and eye of hook under thumb. 9
SHANK TIE (SNELL) (continued) 3 Pull down on tag end of line and wrap around tool and shank of hook 5 wraps toward thumb. 4 Place index finger against wraps to hold in position. 5 Thread tag end of line into groove under wraps starting at thumb and proceeding toward tip of tool. 6 Remove slack in line and pull wraps tight. 7 Place thumb and index finger on all wraps. Release tag end. Remove line and hook from tool. 10
SHANK TIE (SNELL) (continued) 8 Pull knot tight by gently pulling on main line and tag end of line, keeping knot on shank of hook at all times. 9 Hook snelled as shown. Optional: Next, tie an End Loop on the opposite end of line. The End Loop will allow you to change the harness much easier! 1 Thread line through eye of lure and form loop. #6 KNOT 11
#6 KNOT (continued) 2 Take tag end and form the #6 loop over main line as shown - finished loop will look like the number 6! 3 A correct #6 loop will look like this. 4 Insert tool over the #6 line and under the main line as shown. 12
#6 KNOT (continued) 5 Holding the main line, turn tool in a circular motion forming 5 twists as shown. 6 Open tool and catch tag end of #6 line. 7 & 8 Pull tool holding the #6 tag end through loops. 9 Pull knot tight by pulling on main line and lure. 13
#6 KNOT (continued) 10 Hold lure/hook/ swivel/etc. in left hand and open tool in right and catch the tag end. Pull tool to seat knot. IMPROVED SURGEON S KNOT 1 Overlap line and tippet approximately 3 inches. 2 Form a loop holding loose ends between thumb and forefinger. 3 Insert tool through loop. 4 With pointed end of tool through loop, twist 3 times by turning tool in a circular motion. 14
IMPROVED SURGEON S KNOT (continued) 5 Open tool by drawing back the front barrel and catch both tippet end and tag end of line. (Release barrel to clamp ends in tool.) 6 Draw both ends through loop to snug up knot... not tight. 7 Release tool, grasp line and tag ends on either side of knot and pull tight. FLY FISHING NAIL KNOT For grooved end of tool 1 Place leader line in groove of tool extending line 6 inches past tip of tool. 2 Pinch line against tool with thumb and with middle finger holding tool against thumb. 15
FLY FISHING NAIL KNOT (continued) 3 Pull down on tag end of line and wrap around tool 5 to 7 wraps toward thumb. 4 Place index finger on wraps holding wraps in position. 5 Thread tag end of line into groove under wraps starting at thumb and proceeding toward tip of tool. 6 Remove slack, but do not pull off tool at this time. 7 Starting at tip of tool, thread fly line through wraps and under thumb. 16
FLY FISHING NAIL KNOT (continued) 8 Insert thumb and index finger on all wraps and pull wraps onto fly line by removing tool. 9 Take tag end and pull tight holding wraps with thumb and index finger as shown. 10 Take main line and pull tight holding wraps and index finger as shown. 11 Completed knot. BLOOD KNOT/TAPERED LEADERS (SNELL) For grooved end of tool 1 Place leader line in groove of tyer extending line 6 inches past tip of tool. 17
BLOOD KNOT/TAPERED LEADERS (continued) 2 Pinch line against tool with thumb and with middle finger holding tool against thumb. 3 Pull down on tag end of line. 4 Wrap tag end around tool 5 wraps toward thumb. 5 Place index finger on wraps holding wraps in position. 6 Thread tag end of line into groove under wraps starting at thumb and proceeding toward tip of tool. 18
BLOOD KNOT/TAPERED LEADERS (continued) 7 Remove slack, but DO NOT pull knot off tool at this time. 8 Starting at tip of tool, take tag end of other line to be spliced and thread through wraps and under thumb extending line 6 inches past thumb. 9 Place thumb and index finger on all wraps - release tag end and pull wraps onto line to be spliced and tightened. 10 Reverse lines in tool and repeat procedures 1 through 9 and pull knots tight. 19
J.R. GRIP-TIGHT KNOT For grooved end of tool 1 Thread line through hook or swivel (once or twice) extending tag end of line 6 to 8 inches past hook or swivel. 2 Place hook and line into groove of tyer as shown. 3 Pull tag end downward into slot and wrap a tight coil of five turns around tyer toward thumb using forefinger to hold turns in place. 4 Thread tag end back into groove through all turns and out through slotted tip. 20
J.R. GRIP-TIGHT KNOT (continued) 5 Pull tag end tight. 6 Put thumb and forefinger on all wraps - give a short jerk causing knot to slide off tyer onto line. 7 Pull tag end until knot is tight on line. 8 Pull permanent line to slide knot back to eye. Trim off tag end. 21
TYING PLUGS & SPOONS, ETC. J.R. Grip-Tight Knot will not come untied because the end is tied by all turns of the knot. This means that the tighter the tension, the tighter the grip. Grip-Tight knots are far superior to Blood, Clinch, and other commonly used knots which actually have only one turn holding their ends. The Clinch and the Improved Clinch Knots are the All Around knots. The strongest knot is the J.R. Grip-Tight Knot, but does take a little longer to tie with the grooved end. When tying the J.R. Grip-Tight Knot onto a plug or spoon, please be sure to allow the spoon to hang behind your hand (which is holding the tool). Then start your wraps with your free hand from the top of the grooved end of tool toward your tool thumb. SHOWN LOOSENED This is how short end threads through all turns. SHOWN TIGHTENED Trim short end close to knot. SLIDING BOBBER AND BUMPER STOPPER 1 Use 6 to 8 inches of line, grip this line and main line together and insert both lines into grooved end of tool as shown. 22
SLIDING BOBBER & BUMPER STOPPER (continued) 2 Grip lines with your thumb and middle finger as shown. 3 Pull down on tag end of short line and wrap around tool - 4 wraps toward thumb as shown. 4 Place index finger against wraps to hold in place. Thread tag end of line into the groove (under wraps) starting at thumb toward tip of tool. 5 Remove slack in wraps by pulling tag end as shown. 23
SLIDING BOBBER & BUMPER STOPPER (continued) 6 Place thumb and index finger on wraps. Release tag end and carefully remove wraps from tool. 7 Pull knot tight by pulling each tag end of short line as shown. 8 Completed knot will look like this - if knot isn t tight, you can seat it by tugging on tag end with tool as shown. 1 Overlap both lines approximately 6 inches as shown. #6 BLOOD KNOT 24
#6 BLOOD KNOT (continued) 2 Take one end of line and form the #6 loop over the main line as shown. 3 Completed loop should look like a number 6 as shown. 4 Insert tool over the #6 line and under the other line as shown. 5 Holding both lines, turn tool in circular motion forming 5 twists as shown. 25
#6 BLOOD KNOT (continued) 6 Open tool and catch tag end of #6 line as shown. 7 Pull tool and tag end through loops. 8 Half of the #6 Blood Knot is completed - DO NOT TIGHTEN LINE, leave as shown. 9 To complete procedure, repeat the above with other end of line. Begin with loop as shown here (also shown in step 2). 26
#6 BLOOD KNOT (continued) 10 Remember the completed loop should look like the number 6 (also shown in step 3). NOW COMPLETE STEPS 4 THROUGH 8 ABOVE!!! 11 Now tighten knot by pulling MAIN LINES as shown. 12 Completed #6 Blood Knot. IMPROVED CLINCH KNOT 1 Thread line through hook and form loop. 27
IMPROVED CLINCH KNOT (continued) 2 Insert tool through loop and wrap one side of line around tool. 3 Pull line tight. 4 Move tool in a circular motion forming 5 twists in line. 5 Open tool and catch tag end of line. 28
IMPROVED CLINCH KNOT (continued) 6 Pull tool and tag end through loop. 7 Pull tool until the knot tightens. 8 Put hook around center of tool and pull knot completely tight. SPIDER HITCH KNOT 1 Make a large loop as though you were going to do a Clinch Knot, holding loop between thumb and index finger. 29
SPIDER HITCH KNOT (continued) 2 With other hand, pull down on loop and bring line around middle finger. 3 Bring double lines back to thumb and index finger holding original loop. This forms a double line loop below thumb and index finger and a single line loop above thumb and index finger. 4 Insert tool through double line loop and twist 5 times. 5 Open tool and catch top single line loop. 6 Pull loop through twists. 7 Remove tool and pull tight with fingers. 30
SPLIT LEADERS Using 3-in-1 Knot Tying Tool for Two Fly Drop or for Hook and Sinker Rigs 1 Form long loop as shown. 2 Then make a smaller loop from the longer loop as shown. 3 Insert tool in smaller loop and make 5 wraps towards you or away from you. 4 Open tool, grasp both lines as shown. 31
SPLIT LEADERS (continued) 5 Pull through loop as shown. 6 Pull tight to close hitch with tool or with your hand. 7 Cut line so that one line is half as long as the other. 8 Rigs as shown. 32
