By the end of this weekend our youth teams and Under 18 s will see where they finish on the ladders and lock in their opposition for the first round of finals games. Preparations are complete for the Super 6 s - Under 10 s end of season Presentation day this Sunday up on the Village Green. Players and parents to arrive at 9am and the morning will conclude at around 11.30am. A huge thank you to committee members, Carmen Cameron, Mel LeJuene & Kim Pregun for organising the photos, trophies and entertainment for what should be a fantastic morning of celebration for our youngest superstars! On Wednesday this week it was fantastic to see some of our Sharks take to the Main Oval in the Helensvale vs Palm Beach schoolboys match. Helensvale was victorious and thank you to Ken Mathews & Kim Pregun for opening the canteen on short notice to earn some much needed funds for our junior club. Congratulations to Lachie McDonald on his Man of the Match award! A shout out too to the Under 18 s Captains, Daniel Robson Petch & Chris Rumbles, who I hear attended the Under 16 s game at Burleigh last Friday night and were very vocal in supporting the younger club members. Well done gentlemen. A great display of club spirit!

Southport Sharks JAFC News Parking Reminders: Pg. 5 For the safety of our kids there is no parking in the turnaround at the end of the bitumen road around the main oval (near the canteen), this policy is in place at all times during training and games. Security from the Main Club will be closely monitoring this during 2014 and offending vehicles will be towed at the owners expense. This area is to be kept clear for ambulances. The parking area next to the Groundsman s Shed and the Club Office is for the use of committee members and ground staff only. Last year, the groundsman was unable to perform some of his duties as he was unable to access some of his equipment due to vehicles parked in this area and the owners could not be located. The gate for the gravel road coming down past the Village Green will be kept closed at all times. With the expansion of our player numbers the Village Green will be used more and more for training and games and as such we don t want vehicular traffic moving in that area as children will be chasing footballs down the hill and across the road. A Boomgate has been installed on the gate at the entrance to the ringroad around the Main Oval. This gate will open at 3.30pm each afternoon and all weekend. Access to the bottom oval and entry into the Sharks will be via Langford Lane off Musgrave Avenue between 5am and 3.30pm weekdays. GO SHARKS!!! 6 Pg. 6 Umpires Report & Match Reports Umpires Report Hi Everyone, Last weekend was an away round so no U9, 10 or 11 matches were at home and even our Under 8 s and Super 6 s were playing games up at Ormeau so it was very quiet on the umpire front. A big thank you to those umpires that travelled up the road to Ormeau to help out with their U8 carnival Bonnie, Jemma, Nicholas, Paris, Ryan & Terry. Other clubs really appreciate it when we can help them out plus it gives you some more valuable experience. Next weekend is our last modified games at home for the year which is a little bit sad that the season has ended so quickly. However, all of our umpires will get games next weekend with a few of you getting the chance to umpire at a higher age group to give you some more experience before next year. Just remember to bring a spare set of clothes with you as I will need to collect all the uniforms after your game. Tip of the week: This is the last game for the year so use all of the skills and knowledge that you ve gained throughout the year but most of all make sure you enjoy yourselves. Have a great week and I ll see you on the weekend, Tony Gietzel. Tony Gietzel - Umpire Co-ordinator Super 6 s Well done to all parents who were able make it out to Ormeau this week with little notice. The Ormeau sixers were able to put together 3 teams for us under fantastic conditions. Whilst it was difficult to get around the tree teams playing I know the feedback from children, parents and our assistant coaches Adam and Jack was great. It has been a great privilege to coach the sixers this year and one of the more memorable experiences I have had in over 20 years involvement in football. Sadly I am unable to attend this week ends training on Saturday and presentations on Sunday because ironically I have a 20 year reunion with a football club I was involved. I would like to thank some people who have been terrific help for me across the season Thank you Misch for all your help, organisation and guidance; I believe I was very fortunate to be partnered with an experienced team manager in my first year at the club. Thanks to Jack Brenac, Adam Castle for coaching and assisting with teams at carnivals and across sessions, all coaches need assistance and yours was greatly appreciated. To the parents who washed team jumpers and there were many volunteers thank you. To the Mums, Dads, Sisters, Brothers and grandparents of our sixers, thanks you for turning up supporting and being involved when I have requested, I am sure you enjoyed the experience as much as the kids. Thank you to the Southport Junior committee for allowing me to pursue this opportunity; it is one I have enjoyed very much. Finally to our sixers I hope you have had fun, learnt some cool stuff and most importantly want to come back next year and do it all again the spirit in which all the kids participated with was excellent and a credit to their families. Look forward to seeing everyone next year. Pete Doherty. es Super 6 s Jack Brenac and Peter Doherty Team Manager Michelle Staunton

Pg. 7 Match Reports Under 8 s Silver Our first real away game was a positive and rewarding experience for the boys in the Silver jumpers. Inspired by our awesome Silver banner our boys couldn t wait to get out there and play footy. Up against the Coomera Magpies our boys put in their best overall team performance for the year. All players had cracking games and stayed focused on the contest for the majority of the game. For the second consecutive week it was virtually impossible to single out individuals for best players, considering the even contributions of our boys. After much thought the awards went to Harry, Lachlan and Charlie while the entire team was clapped off the ground by our loyal supporters. A huge thankyou goes to Liz Millard and her family for making the banner. The boys won t forget that experience for a long time! Under 8 s Silver Hayden Ewens Assistant - Steve Morris Team Manager - Liz Millard Under 8 s White What another great day and a great victory we had this week at Ormeau Sports Club this week. Noah set up the day with great defensive work at the start of the game. Then well supported by Jaxon who also took some great marks in defence. It was nice to see Flynn, Diesel and Blayd, our three speedsters sharing the ball through the middle of the ground. Max took some great overhead marks that he had been practising at training and played well in front of his grandfather who was down for the day from the Sunshine Coast. Travis and Harry combined well in the forward line and kicked plenty of goals for the day. Jonah was sorely missed this week, we hope he is better soon for the last game next week. Happy Birthday to Blayd who celebrated his birthday this week and played an amazing game in front of his whole family. This week we will be having special brought forward birthday celebrations for Max and Diesel whose birthdays are later on in the year. : Jason. 8 Pg. 8 Match Reports Under 8 s Purple Sharks under 8 purple took the long journey north on Saturday morning to Ormeau, to face the might of one of the Coomera Magpies teams. Coomera were generous enough to give us a spare player, as we were one short in Damir s absence. They weren t generous enough to give us their best player in fact we seemed to get their shortest player but it was a great gesture regardless. It was a windy morning, which made playing conditions challenging for both teams. In the first quarter we played into the wind. Coomera kicked 2 goals to our one in the quarter, with Mason kicking a difficult goal into the wind. The second quarter started slowly for us, with Coomera kicking two quick goals before we settled down. Once settled, we kicked 3 goals for the quarter but still trailed at half time. Coomera had the wind in the third quarter and kicked 3 goals to our one. Purple would need to come home strongly with the wind... Ethan got the fourth quarter off to a great start kicking our first goal. Some of the best sequences in the game came in this quarter with a string of handpasses starting with Alfie and ending in Mason kicking a goal. Drew was strong in the midfield throughout the game, Samuel s kicking was accurate, Bailey never stopped trying and Jordyn and Hunter combined well in their third. There were some really impressive passages of play where we worked well as a united team sharing the ball around. Bailey and Drew were our players of the match for great all round games. Last game this Saturday...go purple power! Under 8 s Purple - Angelo Sardellis Under 8 s Black This week our under 8 Black team took on the Bulldogs down at Ormeau and what a very pleasing display our boys and their families put on. Firstly everyone played, coached, supported, and cheered with great spirit and respect to our hosts and the other teams playing. You all show why our club is so great. The Black team has really gelled late in the year and this game was easily our best performance yet. We played a man short for the whole game and so Mick set Noah and Tristan the task of playing two on three for the day. The result had to be seen to be believed, like seagulls on the last chip (with a little more organisation). Every time the ball came near the two boys they would swoop and pressure and run and pass like little champs and that earned both boys the players of the week. Along our other lines our boys also dominated, Zac and Finn pressed in both attack and defence, Finn has taken his reading of the game to new heights whilst Zac earned one of the coaches awards for his efforts in the contested situations. Jamie took plenty of great marks and after kicking four consecutive points he re-set his sights and kicked several majors. Bailey showed great run as always but also great patience and covering in defence. Patrick has been practicing his overhead marking and it showed with him keeping his eyes in the line of the ball and taking some great marks. Phoenix s left foot has really improved and he kicked a lovely straight goal on his non-preferred. But it was the team effort and cohesiveness that impressed supporters on both sides of the oval. Well done boys and thanks to all the parents for their help too. Under 8 s Black Mick Berry Assistant & Team Manager - Clinton Karger

Pg. 9 Match Reports Under 8 s Red The U8 Red s will always love footy, but footy doesn t love us back every day. This week against Ormeau - it did! It was so pleasing to see the aspects we ve been hammering at training come together on match day. At training this week, we focused on accuracy when kicking, for which Tiernan, Eden and Alex received mid-week awards. Against Ormeau, we were able to move the ball quickly from end to end through a sequence of accurate kicks to our team mates in space. We are continuing to improve in the speed and quality of our decision making. Everybody kicked at least one goal and it was great to see Connor gain confidence from kicking a couple of goals, including one where he played on quickly after taking a mark. Cooper P also returned to the awards this week, re-capturing his hunger for the football. Josh also had an award winning match getting around the ground and making good choices with the ball in hand. Riley was hungry for the ball and the white posts as always, but especially strong in delivering the ball accurately to team mates while playing in the midfield and backs. To cap off and outstanding morning at the picturesque ground and well organized morning, team helper Mikayla Simic from the Sharks Girls teams also had mini footballs to hand out to all players. Thank you Mikayla and the Simic family for their generosity. s Note: Due to business commitments, I will miss the final training, match day and presentation day - and am appropriately disappointed. Enormous thanks all families in the Reds team for their support towards me, the assistant coaches, team manager and the running of the team. Every family helped on training or match days beyond the bare minimum. That assistance made my role much easier and more enjoyable. Good luck to the team this coming week against Hayden s Silver team! Neil. Under 8 s Red Neil Readshaw Assistant es - Paul Donnelly, Mark Green Team Manager - Jo Donnelly Under 8 s Green On Saturday the Green team played against Carrara at Ormeau. Our training has been paying off as we smashed them in the centre and kicked 4 goals before they even had a possession. Our centre stoppages worked a treat and it s a shame the season is wrapping up just as the boys are clicking. The boys endeavour and aggression at the ball has been improving, there was was no finer example of this then Patrick who scored 4 goals. Jason. Under 8 s Green Jason Swanson

29th July 2014 Pg. 10 Match Reports Under 8 s Yellow Match report from Sat 26th July This week we played against Southport Green. I t was a great game of footy with both sides putting in a 100% effort in a very even contest. Every single player had an outstanding performance, still showing a massive improvement each week. Before the start of the game I spoke to each player individually and asked for them to set themselves a goal for the game to do something out of their comfort zone. For some it was kicking the ball on opposite foot or a handball or to try and have a bounce. All of the boys reached the goal that had been set for them with flying colours. I could not decide on who to give awards to this week, so every player received a water bottle (thanks to the club) for their efforts. Also a thank you to U/8 Green for helping us out with extra players for the day. Thanks, Damien. Match report from 2nd August This week we travelled to Ormeau and played against the Carrara Saints. It was great to play against another club and some fresh faces. This week was the first game we have had a full team in eight weeks, with Zak M making his return after recovering from Glandular Fever and looking like he had not missed a beat. As usual Taj, Leo and Ben all had brilliant games leading the way. Zach P also had a great influence on the game. Ryan and Max both showed great courage all day having great games. Miles also played a great game showing massive improvement each week. Ethan also had one of his better games for the year. Thanks to Ben s dad Matt for coming down to training and helping the boys out with a few different drills last week. It was great to see the boys using the skills they had learnt at training in a game situation. Thanks, Damien. Under 8 s Yellow Damien Maher Under 8 s Blue This week we headed to Ormeau to play Broadbeach. Ormeau have new fields and everything there was so well done and had a great feel to it. Our boys, however, didn t seem to be feeling anything this week, other than the cold. They were completely off their game and Broadbeach ran circles around us. Our first half saw a few goals scored, but Broadbeach managed to keep us scoreless for the entire 2 nd half. It was a disappointing game, as I think the boys were rattled that the Broadbeach side was so good, but to their credit they didn t give up and kept working hard to gain momentum and the ball. Oscar Wood again, was our standout performer and Fletch Reichman showed how strong he can be when contesting the ball off the ground. Our last game of the season is next week and the boys are sure to put on a strong solid performance for the close of the season. Don t forget our presentation day on Sunday!!!! Looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday at Training. Under 8 s Blue Peter McCallum Team Manager Michelle Staunton

Pg. 11 Match Reports - Round 15 Under 9 s Black The mighty blacks turned up on Saturday morning ready to play. They played well all 4 quarters and there development has been fantastic. It is great to see them all improving. Conner led the way with loads of tackles and he kicked a great goal. Reilly played his heart out and was well assisted by Jarrod. Kellen has become a good player with his skills improving each week. Both Jakes played well and Harry Sullivan also played his heart out. Jackson and Aiden played well and had really good games. Seb was great with plenty of goals. Nat and Zach always play well driving the ball into the forward line. Liam is a great team player and he was really good on Saturday. Charlie. Under 9 s Black Owen Gregory Assistant - Tysen Gregory Team Manager Charlie Sullivan Under 9 s White It was off again to Carrara this week and after the last trip there, we were looking forward to a good performance by the boys. Award winners this week were Zaihe (also or captain for the day) & Liam. Both players kept running all game and took some good marks. The boys were asked to concentrate on running the game out and also to keep their opponents closely checked and they did that well. Jack kept making leads all day and chased the play really well, Ethan took some good marks and took the most of his opportunities when playing in the forwards, Zach put in his usual honest game, Josh kept running all day, Christian put in probably his best performance all year, and Max's kicking was really pleasing for the whole game, and was rewarded with a nice goal. Unfortunately we were down a couple of players so we called for reinforcements from the Black team as they played in the game before us. Thanks to Harry, Zac, John & Joe for putting in so well, and to Owen for lending us the players, as always. Thanks to Vanessa & Carissa for the oranges, Paul for his goal umpiring duties & Dale for his help. For our final game this week we are back home vs Burleigh so boys lets finish on a high note Go Team White, Sean. Under 9 s White Sean Reid Under 9 s Silver Carrara put on a beautiful morning for football this week and our boys didn't fail to deliver. In a game that was very similar to last week, we played well for the first three quarters and exploded again in the last. Our joint best players this week were Will who kicked three cracking goals in a dominant display and our little machine Zade who continues to tackle hard against any opposition with no fear. For the rest of our boys we saw a very even effort once again which is very very pleasing. We continue to develop as a team and combine with each other better and better every time we step onto the ground. Fantastic work by all. Next week sees our last game for the year which happens to be a double header on Friday night. Look forward to seeing you all at training ready and raring to go with plenty of energy leading up to these games. Jason. Under 9 s Silver Jason Alderson Assistant Mark Lowe Team Manager Jenelle Wagstaff

Pg. 12 Match Reports - Round 15 Under 10 s Black This week's clash was against Carrara Black, in another tough hard game. We copped a few injuries to Jake P and Ky who attacked the ball hard in the contest - hope you are both feeling better. I was extremely proud of how the boys conducted themselves during this game. Our first quarter was a very strong quarter where we set the scene for the entire game although the second quarter was our slowest we ended finishing well. Our player of the week went to Levi who played direct football and attacked hard. Liam picked up man of the match with some great defensive saves and his use of the ball down the corridor. es award went to James who played a good hard game stopping many plays with strong tackles. It's hard to believe this season is almost over with our last game on Friday night. This game will see the boys start to play in a fixed position getting ready for under 11's. Under 10 s Black Glenn Palmer Assistant - TBA Team Manager-Rachel Palmer Under 10 s White No report submitted. Under 10 s White - Tim Catanese Assistant - Matt Mercer Team Manager - Scott Niess Under 11 s White Ormeau def Southport White A very warm winter's day greeted the team as we travelled to Ormeau's new ground to take on the Bulldogs. Depleted in numbers again this week for a variety of reasons, it was a big thank you to Liam Palmer from the Under 10s and the Ormeau side for providing a player to field a full team. It was a much improved Bulldogs side that took to the field and the Sharks knew it was going to be a tough game right from the outset. The Bulldogs led the game from start to finish hanging on by three points, despite a strong finish from the Sharks who found a second wind in the final quarter to almost snatch the victory. It was an uncharacteristic display by the Sharks being led to the ball and missing targets, but none the less, provided a good learning experience for the team to continue to battle on when things don't seem to be going your way. I'm sure it will fuel the fire for next weekend to ensure we end the season on a winning note. Taj captained the side for the day, and led from the centre bounce for the majority of the game working hard with plenty of run. Julian had an outstanding game, standing up and putting in a great effort to keep the Sharks in the game. Liam slotted straight into the side with a great effort, with his head well and truly over the ball and kicking a nice goal, Bailey battled hard all game winning plenty of the contested ball and defending tirelessly, and Max had another solid game earning an award from the Ormeau team for his efforts. Jed worked hard in the centre with plenty of run and linking play rewarded with another goal, Aaron was very versatile using his skills all over the ground, and Jordy put in another big effort covering a lot of the ground as well and kicking a goal. Brody had a solid game with his usual tenacious attack on the footy in both defensive and attacking positions.

Pg. 13 Match Reports - Round 15 Under 11 s White cont.. Joshua played well presenting the outside option up forward and using quick hands and that left foot to find team mates, and Dekota tried hard taking the game on and moving the Sharks out of defence. Tough day for the big men; Tom had another solid game on the last line of defence with good attack on the ball, Chris continued to hunt for the ball from up forward and relieved Taj in the ruck, whilst Drew showed some athleticism on the half forward and half back lines defending well and being a tall target. Thanks as always to all the volunteers and the family and friends supporting from the sidelines. Last week of the season so looking forward to finishing on a high note. Awards for the game; : Drew James, Team: Julian Hamill, Skill: Joshua Hill Ben. Under 11 s White - Ben Fisher U11 s White Assistant - Darren Rieck U11 s White Team Manager - Troy Gay Under 11 s Silver Sharks Silver def Pac Pines Teal Midday game for the boys at Pac Pines this week. Ant Mac ( the little fella ) captained the side today. Although it was a rather one sided game on the score board our boys put in a good effort especially in defense and out of the midfield. We played the game in reverse to other weeks keeping it tight and competitive in the first half and then running out of puff in the second. It seemed that every time that Pac Pines got to kick towards the northern end that the wind would pick up and give them a big 15 knot tail wind advantage. Three of the boys played earlier with the under 12 s and it did show with them tiring early. Rhys took a beautiful mark early in the first and slotted a classy goal. Zeb played up front and received a great pass from Ryno in the second quarter to result in our second and unfortunately last goal for the game. Antonio, Tank and Benny J had their work cut out for them in defense and had to battle hard for four quarters with little rest. Taj P was fierce in the ruck getting some great knock-outs and tackling like a boy possessed. Good to see him pick his opponents up after knocking them down. One more game to go boys, let s finish it off with some disciplined training and 4 hard 1/4s of footy on Saturday morning against Surfers. Player award from Pac Pines to who they considered to be a good and fair opponent went to Taj P. It s great that the opposition team provides this award, something which Ormeau do as well. Perhaps the Sharks could introduce this one for next season. Our es and Team manager awards went to: Benny J ( the other little fella ) for his 1st, 2 nd and 3 rd efforts at the ball and never give up attitude and to Ryno for listening to his instructions and great team play. : Tim. 14 Pg. 14 Match Reports - Round 15 Under 12 s Div 1 Southport Surface Saturday morning was a beautiful morning perfect conditions for footy. The boys were focused and we had 8 shots at goal in the first quarter, however only 1 found the middle the boys kept saying the goal posts kept moving!!! We had a huge win with seven different goal kickers which was great to see.our midfield had another commanding game providing loads of quality ball towards our forwards. Excellent support play from many players saw us lead in every quarter. Awards for this week Flynn, Macka, Rhys, Clay with Harry taking the golden fist. Thanks this week to Graham family Fruit platter, Johnson family runner and boundary, Vassallo family goals, Gloster family photos, Gary our trainer, and last but by no means least Wayne Phillips our buggered senior water tech who had to run water all by himself. Parents please offer your assistance and lend a hand on game day it s the same bunch who help out week in week out these people who help out do it for your children as well so maybe just once offer your time and let our normal helpers enjoy a match just watching. We have a home game this week so we will need more help please put your hand up. Have a great week and stay healthy, we have had a couple of boys with the flu. See you all at training. Wayne. 15 Pg. 15 Match Reports - Round 15 Under 12 Div 2 TWC 37 def Southport 24 We travelled down to Coolangatta for the second last time (the next time will be the grand final!) With the boys down on numbers but big on spirit. Our last trip down here resulted in us driving back with our tail between our legs so we were desperate to show some pride in the Southport jumper. With help from our under 11 brothers, Cade, Jasper and Cooper who played his first under 12 game, we managed to field 16 boys to start the game. It wasn t the best start as TWC managed to get 2 quick goals. The cavalry then arrived when Jack V and Elijah arrived from their div 1 game and stabilised the side. The boys finished the quarter strongly getting on top by winning the ball and tackling strongly. Our midfield took control in the second and third quarters as a result of Harry and Blades making sure their better opposition players were being kept quiet. Our runners in Connor, Elijah and Cade sent the ball into the forward zone continuously while the wall kept it locked in for long periods. Unfortunately the rewards weren t there today as TWC eventually got it out and scored. We were well in it at ¾ time but TWC again got 2 quick goals early in the final quarter. The boys finished off the game strongly and although TWC got the 4 points again today, every boy was able to walk off the ground with their heads held high. The difference today was in the strong marking and safe hands by TWC. As well the temptation to get sucked into the ball rather than holding your position and relying on your teammate to win the ball was too much. We ll focus on these during training this week. Thanks again to Steve (assist), Jordy (runner), Tracey (trainer), Billy (water), Tony (water), Neal (goal ump) and Ross (boundary ump). BOG: Blades (Danny B): won the ball all day and used it well. es award: Zane- got his just reward in div 1, unlucky to get omitted but came back with no complaints, showing great maturity. 16 Pg. 16 Match Reports - Round 15 Sharks Under 14 s Div 2 Southport def Broadbeach Back at the cattery for what awaited us in a windy day and the conditions meant it was gonna be a hard slog, and it was. I warned the boys it would be tough and it made it hard for all. The first half produced plenty of ball for us but a lot of wasted kicks. We really found it hard to settle down accurately and the scoreboard reflected that. We seemed to get our hands on the footy first and our run and sharing I thought was again at our standard, it was just our final touch that eluded us. We have to learn quickly that these sorts of turnovers will be costly against better sides. Our on ball brigade again were outstanding lead by our vice captain were sensational. The hard work on ruck contests at training is really paying off and it makes me proud. The second half produced much of the same but our mark rate really dropped, this on top of our kicking made it really hard. I am really really glad though that we straightened in the last which is a pleasing sign that we can correct towards the end of a game... Fortunately when we couldn't hold a mark we had Marsh and Maxy who kept their heads so thankyou boys. That's all we need sometimes is for someone to grab the bull by the horns and take control so well done. A good win in trying conditions. Like I said, not an overly pleasing one but we know within ourselves where we are at!!!! Well done... Goals: Hilly 3, Jarrod & Maxy 1 C'MON THE FINALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bucky. 17 Pg. 17 Match Reports - Round 15 Sharks Under 15/18 Combined Girls Last Wednesday Night at Labrador saw both the 15's Girls and the 18's Girls take home a win. The first game with our 15 Girls was an opportunity to put into practise some of the switch play skills that had been taught at training. The girls nailed it. There were a number of changes in positioning to give every girl a chance in the forward, middle and back line. At half time the girls celebrated Dee's Birthday and enjoyed chocolate cake (dietary requirement for footy players). Congratulations girls you remain undefeated with two more games till final series start. Our under 18's also won their match last night. Firstly l would like to thank Sunny, Monet, Chloe and Allara for staying back in case they were needed even though it was so cold. These girls truly supported the 18's team with no personal benefit. The match started off goal for goal until a few quick changes and then the girls held them to just the two goals for the remainder of the game. There was great speed on the wings, gathering and feeding of the ball to the forwards was fantastic and defence was amazing. The end result was 77 Southport to 12 Cooly/Tweed. There is only one more game before the end of the season as the 18's have a bye in round 16. Thank you to the parents who attended the Girls meeting on Monday. An will be coming out from the committee regarding the meeting. Please take your time to read and feel free to contact me regarding the information. Basically we as parents need to ensure the growth of the club and this can only be done through our support and volunteers. Under 15 & 18 s Girls Andrew Turner Team Manager - Antoinette Simic Under 16 s Div 1 Our 2 nd last game of the regular season against the ladder leaders at their ground was always going to be a true test for us to see how we tack up against them. Unfortunately we were missing 4 of our starting 18, 3 boys coming in late Friday arvo to help us (muchly appreciated boys) and they were at full strength. Our warm up was spot on and we headed out ready to go but ran into a side that had that intensity and desire we are hunting for. They demolished us out of the middle and ran in waves of 3 and 4 and we went into the 1 st break down by 6 goals. We rejigged the centre, the boys switched on, we found our mojo and for the next 3 quarters we cracked in as hard, we tackled as hard, we ran as hard and even though we never got back that lead, we made them take notice. So much so that there was a lot of behind the play stuff, a lot of niggle and cheap shots, and they didn t like it when we stood up to them for it. The pleasing thing was we flew the flag for our mates but we did it the right way, not stooping to their level. Well done fellas. We started with 3 reserves and ended with one, losing Bowie (3 rd quarter) and Tim (4 th quarter) to head knocks. Both boys were pretty cranky in not being allowed back on but as coaches (and parents), we have a duty of care to you boys and we will do it again if we have too. Our back 6, swamped with runners in the first quarter, came back really hard and evened the ledger with their big units. We still need to work to take front spot away from them and to stand in the hole but a massive improvement. Bench was double and triple teamed at times and still managed to out mark them, run away from them and show them up. We pushed Lachie Fava onto the ball went Shutey who had rucked all game cramped in the thighs, and he was awesome throwing his chiselled body in hard and crunching in, making them earn every touch and getting plenty of it himself.

Pg. 18 Match Reports - Round 15 Under 16 s Div 1 cont.. Toothy stuck his tackles as did Connor who again was everywhere. Max gave his all and more, showing size means nothing when you have pure talent and a massive heart. Bondy and Rob Holley stood up all game, smacking in and earning the hard ball, feeding it back and then spreading for the next touch. Mark went into the ruck, then lost a contact and couldn t see a thing but battled on well. R.P. was tough as nails with Liam giving us plenty of run and class. Zac, Tim, Hayden, Toothy and Bowie seemed to float in and out a bit but this was how the game was around them. Watto switched to a back flank and was fantastic for us. Cool and calm in the heat of battle, he worked in with Jye on the wing who never stopped presenting, charging down the wing. Even when we moved him forward his attack on the ball was great to see. Lachie Mac was back from State duties and did all he could and more. Marks, tackles, hard running, pin point disposal and pure hard work demolished his opponent, winning him a lot of footy. We attacked the ball hard and at times over ran it in our haste. We need that one touch footy fellas, get it, then go. All in all we can take a lot of pride for our last 3 quarters but we need full games from everyone, where we give everything we have and are completely spent after the match. If we all do this and can learn from their intensity and take that into our next game against Palmy, we can shake the tree a bit. Best Players; Rob Holley, Bondy, Lachie Mac, Ben, Dane, Fava, Jye, Tim, Noah, Connor. Goals; Jye 2, Ben 2, Liam 1, Lachie Mac 1, Fava 1. Thanks to everyone for helping out. It is really appreciated. Robbie, Brendan, Alison and Kenny. Under 16 s Div 1 Robbie Jones Assistant Brendan Johnstone Team Manager - Alison Lind Under 16 s Div 2 We headed north down the M1 to take on Coomera in a very important Game that would help us secure a top 2 finish. We were certainly up against before the ball was bounced as we were missing a few key players and as we later found out Coomera stacked their side with several Div 1 players and unfortunately had a Coomera as one of the field umpires as a field umpire and this certainly did not help our cause. It was a highly contested game and very much like a finals type contest. It was a tight 1st quarter as we trailed by a few points which did not help our cause as we were kicking with a breeze. In the second Quarter Coomera got the jump on us and took their lead to 20 points but to our boys credit we fought hard and got back to within less than a goal by half time. After half time things started to heat up as Coomera started to play the man particularly Terry Giacoumis who can body slammed to the ground and several of our boys came over to stand up to Coomera and a melee was on. Unfortunately the umpire pin pointed Josh Michalski who was yellow carded and sent off for 10 minutes. This really hurt us as he was playing his best game of the year.

Pg. 19 Match Reports - Round 15 Under 16 s Div 2 cont.. This unsettled a few of the players who backed chattered the umpiring decisions which resulted in a few 50 metre penalties and another send off. This was simply not acceptable and ultimately cost us the game. It has taught our boys a harsh lesson, we discussed in detail on Monday night behind locked doors before training. It was the most heart breaking loss particularly when most of our boys put in a solid performance. Connor McCambridge had his best game of the year with some great attack on the footy before he unfortunately injured his arm and took no further part in the game. Hayden Bolger put his hand up in the midfield which will add some depth for us and Josh Waugh put in a solid contribution with some desperate defence and chasing. Terry, Anthony and Max put their bodies on the line across the whole ground and they had nothing left in the tank by game s end. We live to fight another day and have learnt the hard way that we simply cannot be undisciplined during games in particular in a finals series coming up. Score: Coomera to Southport Best Players: Terry Giacoumis, Hayden Bolger, Josh Michalski, Anthony Djurovitch, Max Johnston, Connor McCambridge, Jarrod Shute, Mason Bloomfield, Josh Waugh, Ryan Mattner David. 20 Pg. 20 Match Reports - Round 15 Sharks Under 18 s Colts After a disappointing week on the track with a lack lustre commitment, the boys responded with a terrific game on Saturday against arch rivals Labrador. We predicted that Labrador would jump out of the blocks early and with their recent results showing they are a side on the improve, they came out hard. We knew they would test our discipline so this was our main focus point pre game. We touched on 3 major areas before kick off 1-discipline 2-intensity and 3-passion. I'm very happy to say we were fantastic in all 3 departments here, especially Balanda and Barr on the discipline area! In the windy conditions we controlled the game with better skill and once again our backline was sensational holding Labrador to 2 points for 3/4's of the game. Unfortunately we lost Tommy Betson early with an ankle injury and Zane Baker battled well coming back from a heavy corky (both players sustaining these in the 1st quarter). With Tommy unable to take part in the second half, we threw Crewesy into the ruck and what a game he played. We lost another important player to our side during the 3rd quarter unfortunately going down with an ACL injury to the knee. We wish Joshy Wood all the very best for his recovery and thanks for your contribution to the side s success for the short time you have been with us. Stay classy mate! The most pleasing thing from a coach s point of view is the way we prepared ourselves pre game, the way we committed to one another and our overall DESIRE to bring the cream to the top. The scoreboard wasn't a reflection on the standard of the opposition, more so on how well we played as a TEAM. We kept Labrador to for the whole game and we finally finished a side off with kicking 8 goals in the last. We need to take this momentum into the last round against Morningside and have a clear vision of what we want and can achieve. Great effort all round boys and thanks to all the volunteers for your continued help and support. FINAL SCORE: SHARKS def LABRADOR GOALS: WARREN 4, SHAW 4, HILL 4, RIESENWEBER 3, HARRISON 2, MACKIE 2, ROBINSON, LOWE BEST: CREWES, HARRISON, MACKIE, FINN, LOWE, SHAW, KELLY Regards Chants. Under 18 s Community Jason Chantler Assistant Cameron Baker, Aaron Cambridge Team Manager - Michael Rumbles Sharks Under 18 s Community The guys had a beautiful day to play football. They had a terrible week on the training track but thankfully the started with great intensity ANC great tackling against a very big group of players. We came out of the blocks and kicked 4 quick goals with the breeze to put pressure on Coorparoo. The pleasing thing was they didn't let up on the intensity and came away with a great 50 point win. With 1 game to go before finals we are just starting to play as a team. Let's all get to training as there is still positions up for grabs. Thanks to all the helpers and thanks to Connor McKenzie for filling in at the last moment. Andrew. Under 18 s Community Andrew Lowe Assistant Darren Gardyne Team Manager - Karen Lowe
