1 VOLLEYBALL RULES AND REGULATIONS GIRLS and BOYS All SAISA tournament modified rules and regulations are approved and agreed upon at the Spring Athletic Directors Meeting Rules are not permitted to be modified prior to or during the SAISA tournament Category Level Modified Rule/Rule Summary Rules Roster Size Game Format Warm-up Round-Robin/ Pool Play, Knock- out of 5th, 7th and 9th place Matches Championship & 3rdPlace Match All games Time Outs All games Maximum two per set With the exception of the rule modifications in this document, all FIVB rules will govern all aspects of the games Download rules at Maximum of 10 players and 2 coaches Minimum roster of 7 players (to meet roster requirements, visiting school may ask to borrow players from host school) 3 sets (First team to win 2 sets is winner of match) In case of 1-1 tie, 3rdset will be played to 15 points (win by 2, no limit) 5 Sets (First team to win 3 sets is winner of match) In case of 2-2 tie, 5th set will be played to 15 points (win by 2, no limit) Total Warm-up 10 minutes (See Warm-up Chart) After coin-toss: Four (4) Minutes o Team to serve, will get full use of court/net o Receiving team warm-up at back of court not being hit towards Four (4) Minutes o Team to receive, will get full use of court/net o Serving team warm-up at back of court not being hit towards Two (2) Minutes o Both teams will warm-up serve simultaneously for two minutes.

4 SAISA Code of Conduct 1. Smoking, drinking alcohol, drug use, and/or possession, or extreme inappropriate behavior by students will not be permitted at any time. CONSEQUENCES: Any infraction will result in the student being sent home at the student s expense and suspension from all SAISA activities from 90 school days after the decision has been made by the Host School SAISA Tournament/Program Director and Host School Principal. Any costs incurred in addition to the cost for the student being sent home will be the responsibility of the student. It will be the responsibility of the student s school to impose further appropriate disciplinary action, or additional financial penalties. Responsibility: Host School Principal. 2. Transportation: Students must travel in Host School or Host Family provided transportation only. No travel in auto rickshaws is allowed at any time. Exceptions, if any, will be communicated to Guest Schools by the Host School in advance of the tournament. 3. Supervision: Students must remain under the supervision of the Host Family when not participating in scheduled activities or when not under the direct supervision of their coach/chaperone. Time allocated for Study Nights must be adhered to in the Host Family home. 4. Curfew: Students must be in the Host Family home by 9pm for middle/high school events, 10pm for high school events, at the latest, or an alternative time as designated by the SAISA Tournament/ Program Director. 5. Sportsmanship: Students must refrain from any unsportsmanlike behavior including: jeering, foul language or aggressive posturing at any time (both on and/or off the field of play), threats, put downs or any inappropriate language through online social networking groups. CONSEQUENCES FOR INFRACTION OF RULES 2,3,4 & 5: Suspension from all SAISA ACTIVITIES for a minimum of 24 hours, starting from either the time of the infraction or the start of the event, as deemed appropriate by the Host school SAISA Tournament/Program Director and Host School Principal. If the infraction occurs on the last day of the event, the student will be suspended from all activities on the last day. It will be the responsibility of the student s school to impose further appropriate disciplinary action. RESPONSIBILITY: Host School Principal. GENERAL: A. If any infractions above occur, the Host School SAISA Tournament/ Program Director will communicate the details of the violation, in writing, to the student s school. B. SAISA encourages students to seek advance assignments from their teachers prior to departure. The Host School will set aside time and locations for student study. C. Students, coaches and chaperones will receive a brochure/program with a schedule of activities and details for the event. Students are expected to follow the rules and must attend all scheduled activities as listed. D. Students may not use any medications unless prescribed and/or administered by a licensed medical physician or Host School medical personnel or cleared and recorded by the SAISA Tournament/ Program Director.

5 E. Students and parents may not contact the Host School or Host Families to change assigned housing. Housing is the sole responsibility of the Host School. F. Visiting schools will inform their parents of the following: SAISA welcomes parental attendance at its events. When attending SAISA events parents should be aware that the responsibility for their children is the traveling coaches / chaperones and, ultimately, the Host School. Under no circumstances therefore, should parents take their children away from SAISA activities unless prior approval has been gained from the student s coach/chaperone and the SAISA Tournament/Program Director. HOSTING GUIDLINES Thank you for opening your homes and taking the extra effort needed to host our SAISA athletes. Your participation and support of these athletes enables OSC to conduct sports and cultural activities that enrich and enhance students educational experiences. Hopefully, the following will clarify the expectations, minimize confusion, and provide a positive experience for all. 1. Host parents are acting in loco parentis and are expected to take the necessary steps and precautions to ensure proper student behavior and safety. 2. It is the responsibility of the coaches to inform their athletes of the SAISA Tournament Rules and to see that they are enforced at all times. 3. It is the responsibility of the athletes to abide by the SAISA Tournament Rules and to stay in touch with the host family as to their schedule and needs. You have the right to say no to unscheduled activities. You can and should contact the coach if you have any questions or concerns. 4. Host families need to be familiar with the SAISA Tournament Rules and are expected to take the necessary steps to ensure proper student behavior and safety. A copy of the SAISA Rules and Regulations (Code of Conduct) is included in the program for your reference. 5. Host families will need to provide breakfast every morning for guest athletes. Check the Travel/Tournament Schedule and Program of Events for other required meals. Remember that competition is demanding, and please make sure your athletes have enough to eat. Snacks for the day are often welcomed, but not absolutely necessary. 6. Study nights are a requirement of SAISA and are designated during each SAISA tournament. These evenings are to be used as a night for studying at the host s home. Students are expected to remain at the hosts home. Study night curfew is 8.00pm 7. Host families are required to provide transport to and from school for all scheduled activities. Visiting students are NOT ALLOWED to ride in TUK TUK S. 8. All athletes are strictly forbidden to ride rickshaws, Tuk, Tuk s or CNG s during this SAISA Tournament (including any stay before or after the tournament) 9. CURFEW: Each student must be in the host families home at 10.00pm (unless otherwise told by the tournament director) Coaches will make telephone calls to host families during the tournament to check in on their athletes. Please note that these calls are examples of caring NOT harassment.
