HAILEYBURY Newsletter - Issue 4 May 1, 2015 Round 1 May 2, A FOOTBALL Haileybury V St Kevins HOME Rendall Oval 8.30am 8A FOOTBALL Haileybury V St Kevins HOME Rendall Oval 10.00am 9A FOOTBALL Haileybury V Wesley AWAY Wesley - Glen Waverly 9.00am FOOTBALL ROUND 1 of HAILEYBURY FOOTBALL It has arrived! Round 1 of Haileybury Football for ALL teams. The firsts had a great 5 goal win against Scotch two weeks ago but for all other teams this is Round 1. We have Three year 7 teams, Two year 8 teams, Three Year 9 teams, Two year 10 teams and Three Senior teams all pulling on the Magenta and Black this weekend. All players will be wearing black shorts and a numbered jumper supplied by the Corda Club. These team lists can be found on GO2 Football Site. These teams total well over 250 players all with the same Core Values that the firsts adhere to. All teams are expected to understand them and ensure that they play with these pillars in mind. Therefore, we are looking for a whole school approach and encourage all footballers to incorporate these values into their game to ensure success for the magenta and black. Physically Prepared Competitive Will High Skill Capacity Understand the Systems Team First Enjoy your footy on Saturday morning, we hope that as many parents, family and friends get out to support the Bloods as possible no matter what the team or venue. Newsletters will be going out weekly during the season and contain match reports and images from each game. 10A FOOTBALL Haileybury V Wesley AWAY Wesley - St Kilda 9.00am RD 1 - HAILEYBURY FIRST XVIII v SCOTCH David Lappage Coach The Haileybury First XVIII started the season in fine style with a great win against Scotch. Having been fired up on the Thursday prior at the Jumper Presentation by stirring speeches from Matthew Lloyd, Sean Allcock and Andrew Langford-Jones (member of the 1965 Premiership Team), the boys were jumping out of their skin for the siren to finally kick off season Like a grand final, the intensity was high, the ball was hot and both teams were going at it hammer and tong.
2 nd XVIII FOOTBALL AWAY Haileybury V Wesley St Kilda Rd am 1st XVIII FOOTBALL AWAY Haileybury V Carey Bulleen am Firsts players warm up as the 2nds hit the lead in their final Practice Match The Bloods competitive will shone out a core value that every Haileybury footballer must have; but unfortunately they didn t apply the scoreboard pressure they deserved. They went into the main change 13 points down, despite having had 20 Insides 50 s to 13, only to score 2 goals 7 to the oppositions 5 goals 2. With cool heads and showing GRIT, the message was to stick to the structures, but just to use the ball better and the results would come. And they did, Haileybury kicking 5 goals to zero in the 3 rd quarter. Everyone knew their role and stuck to it. There were no individuals, and the best players were hard to single out, but it was great to see the 5 debutants all being influential Connor Riley, Mitch Lewis, Jack Scrimshaw, Ryan Gains and Luke Davies. Captain Corey Rich (7) leads the team out for the first time
Despite kicking the first two goals of the final quarter, Scotch failed to get a grip on the game, Haileybury having 15 more scoring shots than their opposition. Needless to say, some goalkicking was on the cards for the following weeks. The most noticeable aspect of the win was the leadership displayed by all 21 players out there. The voice and support given by everyone has set a platform as to what is to be expected by all who represent the mighty magenta and black in Final Scores: Haileybury Scotch Best: Grigoriadis, Globan, Lee, Polson, Davies, Rich, Constable, Collins Goals: Davies 3, Brayshaw 2, Collins 2, Dalmau, Rich, Scrimshaw, Battle It is easier to walk off with heads high after a win. CORDA CLUB PRESIDENT Peter Rich The football season got off to a great start last week with wins against Scotch for both the Firsts and the Seconds. Just as pleasing was the great atmosphere created by the large number of supporters that stayed around for the games. It was wonderful to see the year 7 players finish their practise match, have a free sausage from the Corda Club BBQ, and watch the Firsts game. Thanks to everyone who turned out on the day, we hope that you enjoyed the games and ate plenty of the magnificent afternoon tea that was available at half time. The Corda Club has been selling supporter caps and scarves for the past couple of years. We are doing the same this year and are introducing trial quantities of beanies to determine the demand. If you are interested in standing out as a Haileybury parent or friend, please come and see us at the BBQ stand at the next Firsts home game on 16 th May. Even better, stay around and watch the game against St Kevin s which will be the game of the round.
BOGAN BINGO Saturday 18 th July Berthon Hall Keysborough Campus There will be a group of Haileybury parents on the grandstand, please come and join us and soak up the atmosphere. Our aim is to fill the grandstand with Haileybury supporters. As mentioned in previous newsletters, our major fundraiser this year will be held on Saturday 18 th July in Berthon Hall at the Keysborough Campus. We will be holding a Bogan Bingo night, so book a ticket, get dressed up, and have some fun! Bookings will open soon. It would really make the night if we could have multiple tables from each year level. We are also seeking silent auction items for the Bogan Bingo night, if you can help or know anyone that can, please let me or any of the other committee know. You can contact me at peterrich1@iprimus.com.au or on Go Bloods! ANZAC DAY & OLD HAILEYBURY FOOTBALL CLUB by Michael Constable On Anzac Day, 8 players from the School elected to make use of the School bye and broaden their football experience and develop their match fitness by volunteering to play with Old Haileybury Football Club. Anzac Day is a special day in the calendar and it was great to see the boys getting the chance to play on the day and participate in the minute of silence before each match. Joel, Chris & Declan link up with the OHFC U19s for the Minutes Silence Chris Grigoriadis, Joel Constable and Declan Forster all played in the Under 19 team against De La Salle. Will Paul, Durras and Raynor Seccull all played with the seconds whilst Hamish Brayshaw and Corey Connell played with the Firsts against PEGS.
It s the First time in history that 8 school players have stepped up to the challenge in one round. Last year players such as Corey Rich and Corey Connelly experienced the benefits of a hit out for Old Haileybury by playing in the Firsts. In the Under 19 match, all three players were major contributors for the Bloods. Chris was really solid down back and his switching direction of the play and pin point kicking set up many forward thrusts. Joel s tackling and overall pressure was outstanding and was moved in the second half to the Opposition s tall mobile go to wingman to great effect and shut him down out of the match whilst gathering his own possessions. Declan was moved down back onto a strong opposition forward and did a great job in curbing his influence in the match. His movement around the ground was really good which was a good confidence booster for him as he returns from last season s knee injury. Declan Forster Playing with OHFC on Anzac Day Whilst the Under 19s were beaten by 5 goals in the end, Coach Pat O Leary was full of praise when talking about the accomplishments of the trio after the match. In the seconds, Will, Durras and Raynor all played well and impressed coaching staff with their use of the ball and overall approach and impact they made on the team. Between them, they played on the wing, half forward and half back flanks and the Coach was impressed with how they played the postions. Hamish Brayshaw gathering the ball up forward and looking to dish off In the Firsts, both Corey and Hamish were solid contributors in a thrilling win for the Bloods. The Bloods got out to a 22 point lead in the 2 nd quarter before a fight back from the opposition saw them kick 6 unanswered goals in a row. At ¾ time, the Bloods were 8 points down and had the first goal of the last quarter kicked against them when it started raining making the job at hand that bit harder. Unfazed the team clawed their way back into the match and with 30 seconds to go in the match kicked a goal to grab the lead and the win by 3 points.
Hamish played up forward all day and kicked his first goal for Old Haileybury whilst Corey played both up forward in the first half and was moved into the mid field rotation in the second half which was terrific experience for him. All 8 players thoroughly enjoyed the experience and gained valuable match fitness against older heavier players. The School Firsts have another bye on May 9 and with the break over the July holidays for all teams, the opportunity exists for other players to experience the benefits of playing for Old Haileybury. Those interested should contact to David Lappage. OLD HAILEYBURY FOOTBALL CLUB Any queries can be directed to the Under 19 team manager, Geoff Mantell on or David Lappage. Please follow the links to see what else the OHFC are up to. For the latest edition of the Bloods Bulletin - Official OHFC Web Site - CORDA CLUB BBQ The Match Day BBQ is one of the biggest fundraisers for the Corda Club. It is set up at every firsts home game and runs from early in the seconds till half way through the Firsts game Rendall Oval. BBQ rosters: 1 st and 2 nd Football teams all families will be rostered once. Year 10 families are asked to volunteer their time for the four home barbecues, via the newsletter.
