1 Atascosa County Fair Rules General Rules Home Arts Division Here are the general rules for Baked Goods, Canned & Preserved, Wine, Crafts, Photography and Fine Arts Competition. 1. ALL entries will be accepted at the Rotary Pavilion (Orange Building) at the Poteet Strawberry Festival grounds on Saturday, October 4, a.m. until 10 a.m. only. Some items will be accepted early (Friday, 4:30-6 p.m.) as noted in. 2. Exhibits will close at 10 a.m. and remain closed until judging is completed (approximately 1:30 p.m. 3. No entry fee is required. Exhibitors from surrounding counties may enter. 4. All items entered must be work of exhibitor and handmade/homemade. 5. Entries must not have been previously entered in the Atascosa County Fair competition. 6. Only one entry per category. 7. Each contestant MUST make his or her own decision regarding which category to enter. (Any item for which there is a category CANNOT be placed in the Miscellaneous category.) 8. The Home Arts Division Committee reserves the right to combine or expand categories. 9. Place ribbons, along with Grand and Reserve Rosettes, will be awarded. 10. Ribbons are to be picked up on Sunday, 2:00-3:30 p.m. 11. Any ribbons or items not picked up by 3:30 p.m. on Sunday will be taken to the County Extension Office, , in Jourdanton by Wednesday. 12. The Atascosa County Fair Association accepts no responsibility of any degree for any item entered into Atascosa County Fair competition. Please: Rules MUST be followed (size of pictures, jars, quilts or photos; number of items; food covers for sanitation; suitable for hanging, etc.) Failure to abide by rules is reason for disqualification. FINE ARTS SHOW I. CANVAS Acrylic Oil Watercolor Miscellaneous II. PAPER Black & White Color Mixed Media Watercolor Miscellaneous III. SCULPTURE FIVE AGE GROUPS: Adult High School (Grades 9-12) Junior High School (Grades 7-8) Intermediate School (Grades 5-6) Elementary School (Grades 4 & Under) Schools will hold preliminary judging.

2 1. Art work will be accepted for hanging 4:30-6 p.m. Friday and 8-10 a.m. only on Saturday. 2. All art work MUST be wired and suitable for hanging. Frames are not required. 4. Entries will be displayed Saturday and Sunday. 5. All entries and ribbons are to be picked up 2:00-3:30 p.m. on Sunday. HOMEMADE WINE SHOW Class A Mustang Grape - dry Class B Mustang Grape - sweet Class C Red and White - sweet Class D Red & White - dry Class E Rosé Class F Dessert - sweet Class G Fruit/Berry Class H Novelty & Sparkling Contestant must be 21 years of age. Wine entries must be in a 750 ml. glass bottle. (Standard wine bottle). Appropriate corks and caps are to be used. Each bottle MUST have a list of EXACT ingredients. (Do not tape to bottle). If entry requires chilling, contestant must provide his/her own ice bucket and ice. Wines will be opened and tasted by judges. All wines will be displayed Saturday and Sunday. Wine and ribbons are to be picked up between 2:00 and 3:30 p.m. on Sunday as they cannot be sold. AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHY SHOW I. People (Black/White, Color) II. Animals (Black/White, Color) III. Scenery (Black/White, Color) IV. Special Effects (Any manipulation of Image including: computer, painted graphics, etc.) V. Miscellaneous (Black/White, Color) THREE AGE DIVISIONS: Adult High School (age 14 to 18) Junior (age 14 & Under) 1. Entries MUST be 8 x 10 or larger.

3 2. Entries MUST be matted (NO frames). 3. Entries MUST be suitable for hanging. 4. Photos will be displayed Saturday and Sunday. 5. Photos and ribbons are to be picked up between 2:00 and 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. BAKED FOODS SHOW Class A - Pies 1. Fruit 2. Nut Class B - Cakes 1. Layer/Sheet 2. Pound/Bundt 3. Decorated 4. Miscellaneous Class C Yeast Breads 1. Traditional 2. Sweet Class D - Cookies (1 dozen) 1. Drop 2. Refrigerator 3. Rolled 4. Bar 5. Brownies 6. Miscellaneous Class E - Candies (1 dozen) 1. Drop 2. Divinity 3. Fudge 4. Praline 5. Brittle 6. Miscellaneous Class F - Quick Breads 1. Traditional 2. Sweet TWO AGE DIVISIONS: Adult (19 & Up) Any ingredients subject to spoilage will not be accepted. (NO Custard Based; NO Cheesecakes; NO Cream Cheese; NO Meringues). Food must be exhibited on disposable containers and covered with clear (no color) plastic wrap. Only food covered in a proper and sanitary manner will be accepted. Place one slice or piece on a paper saucer and place in a baggie and attach separately for judging. All entries, except for decorated cakes, will be judged for flavor and texture. All items entered must be work of exhibitor and homemade. (NO Mixes or Ready-Made Crusts). Items entered become property of the Atascosa County Fair Association and will be sold, as scholarships are made possible by these proceeds.

4 CRAFT SHOW I. NEEDLEWORK (Includes appliqué, collars, crocheting, cross-stitch, embroidery, knitting, needlepoint, pieced, tatting, etc.) II. CRAFTS (Includes baskets, ceramics, flower arrangements, folk art crafts {decoupage, stenciling, tole painting}, jewelry, leathercraft, macramé, metal, pottery, Scherenschnite, seasonal items, woodwork, wreaths, etc.) III. 1. QUILTS (LARGE) (54-inch and larger) A. Hand Quilted B. Machine Quilted C. Quilted by Professional 2. QUILTS (SMALL) (smaller than 54-inch square) (Includes, but not limited to: baby quilts, table runners, wall hangings, etc.) A. Hand Quilted B. Machine Quilted C. Quilted by Professional AGE GROUPS: Adult (19 & Over) Art work will be accepted for hanging 4:30-6 p.m. Friday and 8-10 a.m. only on Saturday. New, old and previously entered items may be entered for Exhibit Only. Exhibitors may enter more than one item in each category. Entries in each category will be judged according to quality of work. A Blue Ribbon will be awarded for Excellent work A Red Ribbon will be awarded for Good work. A White Ribbon will be awarded for Fair work. Honorable Ribbons will also be awarded. A Best of Show in each Division will be selected from the Blue Ribbons. All items must be left for display at all times during the Fair. Items and ribbons are to be picked up between 2:00 and 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. Every effort is made to secure the exhibits, but the Fair Association is not responsible for any loss or damage to articles while on grounds.
