29 June 2011 Issue 9 Last Man Standing With only 2 punters left the competition has really heated up now we are at the business end of proceedings. The weekend started with a bit of a hiccup, both Jayden and Beau selected the Broncos and obviously that was not going to get anyone $1,000 so after some quick phone calls and s it was settled that the selections were... Actually I think we will take this opportunity to introduce our 2 punters so everyone knows who s who. Important Diary Dates 3 July 2011 Bingo Day Nov 2011 Father & Son Weekend Away In the red corner and currently fighting out of Perth, Western Australia is Beau Paine. With a head only a mother could love, Beau is 30 odd years of age and originates from Maclean on the NSW North Coast. Now Maclean has produced some exceptional men over the years, of which Beau is not one, but none better than a bloke named Daniel Brown. Anyway we could talk all day about how good a bloke Daniel is but this is about Beau. Beau was a very talented footballer in his youth and was a vital part of the Maclean under 12 s premiership winning team, where he featured in every game as a dashing winger. Much to the dismay of his team mates Beau decided to retire at the top to pursue a career in male modelling and so the career of a potential modern day great was cut short. Apart from supporting the Panfers in the NRL Beau now bides his time enjoying long moonlit walks on the beach with his missus, line dancing and when time permits watching his new sporting passion - the Equestrian, his favourite discipline being the dressage. Beau has been a very consistent LMS performer and was only knocked out last year when the Titans turned in a below par performance in week 4. In the blue (and orange) corner and representing the mighty Toonie Tigers is young Jayden Brown. Jayden is a particularly well bred young fella (especially on his father s side) who is currently in his 3rd year of a 10 year stint at the Toonie Tigers. Like Beau in his youth, Jayden is a vital part of a very professional looking Under 8 division 4 team and gives his all every week. Much to his dad s disgust Jayden loves the Wests Tigers and notes Robbie Farah as his favourite player. Outside of footy Jayden loves fishing, Bakugan, Kamen Riders and anything else the toy companies can bring out to cost his mum and dad money. Jayden currently has the luxury of being single but at the same time can have up to 3 girlfriends on the go in any given week. He would be a fine catch for any mums looking to marry off their daughters young and he has already pledged a large amount of the winnings to the very notable and worthy charity of Dad Needs New Golf Clubs. Jayden is a real surprise packet this year after he showed no form at all in his only previous LMS outing where he bombed out in the 2nd week. Continued Page 3..

Last Man Standing cont... Anyway back to where we started and after a frantic Friday Beau settled on the DOGGIIIZZZ and Jayden the Raiders to get them the cash. Obviously the Tigers were abysmal in their efforts to win a supporter some money and the Raiders needed the ref to get over the top of the mighty eels. Now we move into another split round with many top liners out of the various teams and the reports are that Beau is starting to crack under the pressure. This mail has filtered through to Sportingbet, who have recognised the magnitude of this event, and they have installed Jayden as a clear cut $1.33 favourite to take the prize and are offering the unprecedented odds of right your own ticket for the Equestrian lover. I don t know about you but I can t wait to see which one of these 2 gladiators folds under the pressure and which one gets the cash. Brownie PHOTO OF THE WEEK Congratulations Is this you?? If it is - go to the canteen to get your free can of soft drink and a sausage sizzle. Match Reports week ending 26 June 2011 Under 6, Group 3 AST Tigers 34 vs. Kellyville 0 This week, we welcomed a new player by the name of Jesiah. With a few great hit ups, & some solid defence, Jess will no doubt get over the try line very soon. Welcome Jess. A special thanks to Fran for organising Jesiah's rego card so he could play on saturday, Thanks Fran. Up against the Bushrangers, who came out ready to play, it looked like the Tigers were going to have a fight on their hands. They had a couple of players that were very fast & elusive but could not penetrate the awesome Tigers defence, lead by Rawiri Boyce who put on a fantastic display of tackling. Great work Rawiri, keep it up. Special mention this week to Byron Jones for scoring his first try. These boys are putting in consistent performances week in, week out & they are making it extremely difficult for their opposition to even get on the board. With three 4 year olds in the team you would think there would be gaps in attack or defence, but when Rehua Boyce gets a hold of the pill & starts stepping through kids 2 years his senior, you can see why these boys make a great team. Keep training hard & having fun, & you will do some great things this year. Try scorers: Daniel 2, Byron, Jy, Grayson, Reina & Levini 1 each Goals: Jy, Reina & Rawiri Man of the Match: Rawiri Boyce Try of the week: Byron Jones Bruce & Heidi

Under 6, Group 5 AST Tigers 22 vs. Lalor Park 16 Another great game and our boys and Zoe are getting really confident. We have 12 players now and all the kids are having a great time. Our try scorers this week were Jay, Rowan and 3 tries to Kobi with one of them coming off a good offload from Brownie that may have been a touch forward. The tackle bags at training must be paying off with the defence from the whole team excellent again. Anthony converted a try which gave him player of the match and Kobi went home with the encouragement award, and the Coach gets my award for keeping up with 4 subs every 5 mins!! Tammy Under 7, Group 2 AST Tigers 28 vs. Rouse Hill 32 We were very unlucky to lose this game - the boys were great, trying so hard, we hardly made any mistakes which was so pleasing. Noah showed that he can do more than just score tries and made some great tackles. Keegan and Brendan were fantastic in defence and Andrew made the hit of the year, you had to feel for the opposition player because he just got crunched. Samuel and Siaosi made great runs along with AJ and Tahryn. Well done boys let's keep up the good work this week. Jason Under 8, Division 3 AST Tigers 18 vs. PC Titans 34 Saturday 18 June 2011 AST Tigers 22 vs. Marconi 28 A very close game with only 1 try in it. Marconi had one big unit who scored 3 of their 5 tries. That was the difference. Boys it doesn't matter how big they are all we needed to do was have 4 or 5 in the tackle to slow him up. That's why we do our "2 on 1" drills at training. In saying that we tried hard and played hard and on any given day the score card could of gone our way. Marconi scored 2 of their tries after the hooter went. In attack Cameron had a blinder with 2 tries from dumy half on the last. Jack crossed the line again as did Luke. Max was seemingly headed for the try line if not for a foot from the opposition getting tangled in his legs. Jordy continues to impress with his foot work. Tries: Cameron 2.Jack & Luke 1 each. Goals: Tyler, Cameron and Max 1 each MVP: Cameron who contributed 10 points for the game. Spud

Under 8, Division 4 AST Tigers 10 vs. Fairfield Pats 46 Even though we came up with a loss again to Fairfield Pats, we put in a good team performance. Still finding our way with our defence which continues to improve each week, the Tigers played well as a team. The team worked well in attack even though we only scored 2 tries (Kye scoring both) and Del converting one goal, against a talented team. Akesh continues to show his passion on the field being our "Man of the Match" this week. Jayden our "Player of the Week" continues to lead from the front making some blistering tackles and some great breaks in attack. Kye you just don t realise what speed you have when you get the ball and you will jump out of the stalls in a game very shortly. The girls Manaia, Jess and Ohine continue to stamp their mark on the game with Jessica "off to McDonalds" this week. Robbie, Luke, Josh and Del continue to make their presence felt on the field. Every time we ran the ball the kids ran as fast and strong. Jamie we look forward to the white streak being back on the paddock next week. Great effort kids. Brownie, Paul & Annie. Under 9, Division 2 AST Tigers 14 vs. Canley Heights Dragons 24 Not a good result today losing to Canley Dragons, a game we should not have lost considering we beat them easily only a few weeks ago. Our defence which has been our strength over the last few weeks just was not there today, Riley was our stand out tackler but we didn't tackle as a team. We made a lot of silly mistakes which gave them lots of possession and as our boys know you can't win without the ball. We made costly errors from their kick offs which resulted in them getting the ball back and scoring 3 tries. Canley Dragons grew in confidence and put a lot of pressure on us forcing us to lose our way. But to the boys credit they hung on and didn't let Canley Dragons run away with the game. 2 great tries by Jarryd kept us in the game. Today s loss is a lesson to the boys and hopefully they will learn that if we don't listen and behave at training this is what will happen on game day. So big efforts at training from here on and these boys should be back to their best. Jarryd 2 tries, Andrew 1 try Josh 1 goal Man of the match Riley Effort award Sione Go the mighty tigers Joe

Under 10, Division 2 AST Tigers 40 vs. Cabramatta 10 A good win, we went to sleep in the second half but the boys did play a mid week game and looked a little jaded towards the end. Ryley was great taking up where he left off last week and won the man of the match. Des crossed for 4 tries and had a good game. Tyrese and Bradley continue to make good yards up the middle followed closely by Matty, over all a good team effort from a very good team. Jason U nder 10, Division 3 AST Tigers 16 vs. Parra City Titans16 What a cracker of a game Toony played this week, with the boys getting away with a draw in a game that was an absolute nail biter for the entire 40mins. Toony showed plenty of heart and guts during the game and never gave up even though the odds were stacked against us being up against the Titans and the referee who might as well have put a Parra City Titans jersey on and parade around with their flag. We showed them what Toony Spirit was all about as time and time again they tried to finish us with their big boys but the boys defence was awesome. Tory stomped his way over for a try early followed by Conner scoring a sneaky try out wide locking the scores at 12 all at halftime. The second half was just as exciting as the first with Max Harris testing their line time and time again and finally Flash Gordon Jai Treadwell crossed for a try to give us a chance to win the game but the conversion was unsuccessful. It was a very entertaining game boys, a win we disserved but that's life, you win some you lose some and you draw some. Man of the match was Andrew Castia and the Player of the week was Jaidyn Hanna. Great effort boys Tries: Tory, Conner, Jai Goals: Tory, Max Charlie Under 12, Division 3 AST Tigers 28 vs. Fairfield Pats20 Great effort by the boys to win a hard fought game. Every player put in 110% which is what the coaches asked for. Very pleasing to see the team implement what we have been doing at training,. all plays were practised at training and perfected on the field. Daniel U. won man of the match with great forward running making metres every time he had a hit-up. Cody finished with a couple of great tries. Rhys and Daniel R s defence in the second half was excellent. Ben scored a great try with much improved running. So I hope everyone can get down to C.V. Kelly and watch the beast unleash. Two old men, Dane and Danielle

Under 13, Division 3 AST Tigers 18 vs. Hills District 12 Another fantastic effort by our mighty Tigers. Down 12-nil after 10 minutes, the boys woke from their slumber and tackled Hills out of the game. With 3 tries to us we were in front and victory was ours. It was pleasing to see things we practice at training being used in games. We keep saying to you that the only team that beat you is yourselves and maybe you will start believing that as your confidence grows. Thanks once again to our U/12s for their fantastic help. Steve Under 14, Division 2 AST Tigers 16 vs. Parra City Titans 32 No report submitted Under 15, Division 1 AST Tigers 22 vs. Parra City Titans 14 Well done boys. Tthe reward for sticking together during our tough learning period has paid off. Front rowers Feta, Andrew and Blake laid the platform for James and Hayden to execute their well rehearsed 'storm' play, despite being told by coaches not to do the move until instructed these naughty boys couldn t wait and went ahead with it after three minutes of play. It had immediate success, the early try gave this team the spark and enthusiasm its lacked in previous games. Mark and Peter totally outplayed their counterparts. this new combination will only get better. Dean at fullback took some great high balls and returned well. Cameron out wide waited patiently for his opportunities. he impacted with every touch of the ball and scored the final try. Jake however wasn t as patient, he had to be moved into the forwards to appease his frustrations, he will start there next game. All the forwards were great in defence, especially our marker play. Titans defeated us 38-0 seven weeks ago - they are the same side playing the same way, the tigers are not!! by Ben Dover and Phil McCavity Under 16, Division 2 AST Tigers 12 vs. CVD Cobras 8 We seem to be going through the season in second gear. Injuries, house arrest etc. has a toll. The game went pretty good for the first 2 minutes then we just seemed to go to sleep. We let a soft try in when we switched off in marker but we came back through some great support play with a try to Bubby. Ordinary kicking led to some good field position for CVD but once again our defence made it difficult for CVD to capitalise. Folau's try just before halftime was a much needed leg up. The first six minutes of the second half saw us give away a soft penalty which lead to them scoring a soft try. We are now playing as if we don t CARE IF WE ARE IN THE TOP 2 OR THE TOP 8! There was too much ground given on the back of silly penalties & some bad decisions by some selfish play. A penalty with a certain two points was rejected and play resumed. We managed to get there in the end with some great lead up work for a try in the last 4 minutes. The drama want over when CVD kicked over the top with seconds to go and luckily for us fumbled over the line. A sloppy win but a win none the less. The only pretty thing about this game was the stand in manager sitting on the table!!!! Alfred, Bubby, Urich & Michael Hunt

C Grade AST Tigers 54 vs. Parra Jnr Eels 4 A couple of the boys off to their formal A great game with a well controlled team when the opposition started playing up. A great roll up to our after game lunch at the PI, thanks to all our players and supporters who attended. This Friday we are up against the only team who have beaten us, so let s square up the result! 9 A Grade AST Tigers 26 vs. Fairfield Pats 0 Before I get into this week s game just a quick word on the 2 previous weeks matches because I have had problems and could not get reports in. 10 June 2011: AST Tigers 18 vs. Merrylands 22, in a game we really should have won. We invented new ways to lose a game but still nearly snatched victory in the end. 19 June 2011: AST Tigers 40 vs. Parramatta Jr. Eels 14, in a match that saw us get back to our earlier season form to post a comprehensive victory. This week we went to Fairfield's home ground on a night that would have seen Frosty The Snowman looking for an overcoat. We had only half the squad available for the game and on paper looked like we would have our backs to the wall, however the 15 players who were there did a fantastic job, not only to win the game but to prevent their tryline from being crossed and leave Fairfield without a point for the match. The defence by our guys was awesome! They never stopped talking to each other and the way they "scrambbled in defence" left the opposition totally frustrated. The commitment every player showed was amazing. We threw the ball around when we had to and we tucked it away when we needed to play safe. We played basic footy and it worked a treat. Mitch Emery was outstanding as was Patty Tinilau and Spike, but it was a fantastic team effort with every player making a contribution. I need to give a special mention for our stand in Captain for the game, Stevie Lloyd who had a contact knocked out of his head early in the match and played the whole game with one eye, looks like he will have to wear the tag "Cyclops" from now on. Ryan Mitchell also had a great game at fullback and as our stand in goalkicker for the night managed to slot 3 from 5. I was really proud of the commitment the guys showed and I feel that we have now got back on the right track and out of our slump. Bill Holden Sponsorship Our club is very fortunate to have some wonderful sponsors supporting us with funding.
