How do I get involved? To sign up for Sport, you nominate via the Sport Sign Up page on the Mount Carmel College website ( ). This page lists the sports on offer during each term by clicking on the Sign-Up button you will be taken to a form where you will enter your details and the sport/s you would like to play in that term. Teams will be put together based upon a range of factors including the number of nominations, previous experience in a sport (particularly when there is more than one division), and friends you may need to be with for transport requirements. There may be a need to run selection trials if there are divisions in the roster or the event is state-wide. Students must consider all other commitments they have, making your own transport arrangements to and from games and training, and the uniform required to participate. Training is determined by the coach, but usually it is during one lunchtime per week at Mount Carmel College or nearby sports fields. Your family members and friends also have the opportunity to be involved in the College s sporting program. The online sign-up form has a field where you can nominate someone to be your team s coach, manager or supervisor, or to even help with umpiring or scoring if the sport requires. This support is very much required and allows the College to offer such a large range of sporting opportunities. All sports volunteers require a Working With Children Registration. Sign up Online Process: Click the Sign up button on the MCC website homepage to access the sign up page.
Interested in coaching a team or umpiring? You may like to develop your skills as a coach by coaching a team. If you are in Year 9 or 10 you could coach a Year 7 or 8 Team, and Year 7 and 8 students could coach a Primary team, or perhaps you have a younger sibling or relative playing in a team you would like to coach. Coaching and umpiring are great ways to gain confidence, transfer your knowledge of a sport and have a positive impact on the lives of others. Opportunities can fit in with your availability. You could just take a team for lunch time trainings, or you can help with a team or sport after school on a particular day of the week.
What are my responsibilities as a student? Make sensible choices about which sports to play. Aim for a balance of family, school work, sport, social activities and time to yourself. Take up opportunities offered by MCC with enthusiasm and commitment. Attend all training sessions and games, showing a willingness to listen and learn from others. If unable to attend a training or game, please inform the team captain, coach and the Sports Administration Officer. Always graciously accept the umpire s decisions. Abide by decisions made by MCC regarding matters in dispute. Always show good sporting behaviour by expressing emotions, ideas and opinions in a positive manner. Enjoy and celebrate a win without boasting, lose without excuses and participate with courage and determination. Use courteous language. Communicate with the Sports Administration Officer if you have a concern... avoid bottling things up. Forfeiting is a last resort. Inform the Sports Administration Officer as early as possible if there is a clash in the roster with other commitments. Consider fill-in options so the game can proceed. Be considerate of the impact you may have on other students and families if you don t play. Wear your uniform correctly and represent MCC with pride.
How can my parents assist myself and the College? Communicate with their daughter regarding commitment, transport and uniform requirements. Understand that students are expected to attend all training sessions and games. Promote mature behaviour on game days and be positive role models. Any queries or concerns should be directed to the Sports Administration Officer in a timely manner so that issues can be managed. Ensure your daughter has any required medication at games (eg. Asthma puffers and Epipens). Parents and family members are encouraged to volunteer to coach, manage, supervise and umpire for any team in which they have knowledge or an interest. Volunteers require a Working with Children Check Registration and new volunteers will also be required to complete a Volunteer Induction provided by Mount Carmel College.
What will the College do? MCC will organise teams in which all students who nominate for a sport will have an opportunity to participate. Teams can be organised to accommodate a friend request, and every effort is made to make teams appropriate to the level of competition. All teams are organised within the financial constraints of MCC; are dependent upon volunteers to assist with coaching, managing and umpiring; and, are conducted in a safe manner. How will I know if there is a cancellation or change in schedule? Cancellations and other changes will be advised via to students and parents address, advised at sign up. They may also be announced over the PA system and posted on the Cancellations page on the College website ( If in doubt, you may contact the MCC Front Office on
What uniform do I wear for which sport? There is an expectation that students wear the uniform in the correct manner. The full tracksuit (including spray jacket) must be worn to and from all games and competitions, and the navy sports bag is also taken to games.
