GNAC RED LION PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Offense Terrell Watson, Azusa Pacific (RB, 6-2, 235, So., Oxnard, CA) and Ryan Robertson, Central Washington (QB, 6-4, 202, Sr., Sammamish, WA Eastlake)... Watson rushed for 214 yards on 26 carries including a pair of touchdown runs of 44 and 10 yards. On APU s final drive of the game, he had 31 yards on three carries to set up a game-winning 24-yard field goal by Jamie Cacciatore with eight seconds left on the clock. Robertson completed 23 of 29 passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns and was not intercepted as the Wildcats moved into a tie for first place with Humboldt State with a win over Western Oregon. Robertson s 19-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Spain with 3:05 left gave CWU the victory. Defense Tyler Thornton, Azusa Pacific (SS, 5-8, 178, So., Bakersfield, CA Centennial) led the Cougars with 11 tackles, including seven solos and also had two interceptions as APU ran its win streak to three games after opening the season with seven losses. Special Teams Lucas Gonsalves, Western Oregon (WR, 5-9, 175, Jr., Kailua, HI St. Louis HS) had a 89-yard punt return with 9:12 left in the fourth quarter as the Wolves scored 22 consecutive points in the frame to take a lead before CWU got a late touchdown to pull out the victory. The punt return equaled the second longest in GNAC history. Honorable Mention Gabe Bruno, Central Washington; Sean Davis, Central Washington. FANTASTIC FINISHES: All three games last Saturday were decided in the closing minutes. Azusa Pacific s Jamie Cacciatore kicked a 24-yard field goal with eight seconds left to cap off a 12-play, 75-yard drive in the Cougars road win at Dixie State. Anthony Spain had a 19-yard touchdown catch from Ryan Robertson with 3:05 left to earn Central Washington a home win against Western Oregon. Meanwhile, Simon Fraser rallied from a 24-0 deficit to defeat Humboldt State as Lemar Durant caught a 45-yard pass from Trey Wheeler with 4:06 remaining. The Clan matched the GNAC record for largest deficit overcome set by Humboldt State in 2001 when it overcame a 24-point deficit to defeat Western Oregon RECORDS: Humboldt State running back Nick Ricciardulli set a GNAC single-season rushing record Saturday netting 110 yards on 27 carries to increase his season total to 1,431 breaking the record of 1,417 set by 1

2 HSU s Lyndon Rowells last season. Ricciardulli also broke the GNAC record for most 100-yard games in a single-season recording his eighth of the year... Simon Fraser wide receiver Lemar Durant has 82 catches for 1,227 yards and needs nine catches and 215 yards Saturday to match the single-season records of 91 and 1442 set by Central Washington s Johnny Spevak during the 2008 campaign. GNAC SWITCHES TO SUPER REGIONAL III: The GNAC will compete in Super Regional III this fall after spending the past few years in Super Regional IV. Also part of the 44-team Super Regional III is the MIAA (Mid- America), the Great American Conference and the Northern Sun. The MIAA was also part of Super Regional IV last season. Six teams from each of the four regions qualify for the playoffs. Earned access berths are awarded to certain conferences which have a team ranked in the Top 10 in their region. With only five playoffeligible members, the GNAC does not receive an earned access berth. Azusa Pacific is a provisional NCAA member and is not eligible for the playoffs. GAME RECAPS AND NOTES Central Washington 36, Western Oregon 32 (at Ellensburg): Western Oregon was on the verge of setting a GNAC record for the largest fourth-quarter deficit overcome before Ryan Robertson directed Central Washington on an eight-play, 72-yard drive for the winning touchdown a 19-yard pass to Anthony Spain with 3:05 remaining. Prior to the TD pass, CWU freshman running back Jordan Todd had runs of eight, one, 16 and eight yards on the drive... CWU led after three quarters before the Wolves pulled ahead scoring three touchdowns in 6 ½ minutes. Royce Spencer started the comeback catching a six-yard pass from Ryan Bergman. Lucas Gonsalves returned a punt 89 yards for a touchdown. Running back Joe Harris tossed a 30-yard touchdown pass to Antoinne Wafer. Wafer then caught a two-point conversion pass from Bergman to give WOU a three-point lead... After CWU went ahead Western Oregon drove to CWU s 23-yard line before defensive end Gabe Bruno sacked Bergman for a 12-yard loss on third down. On the next play, defensive back Cedrique Chaney broke up a pass to seal the win for the Wildcats... Robertson finished the contest completing 23 of 29 passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns. Tavoy Moore had nine receptions for 63 yards and Spain had six catches for 97 yards. Todd netted 90 rushing yards on 18 carries... CWU outgained Western Oregon , including on the ground. Bergman completed 14 of 30 passes for 229 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Wolf offense. Wafer had four catches for 44 yards (not including the two-point PAT conversion which doesn t count statistically), while Tyrell Williams had three catches for 97 yards... Defensive end Kraig Akins and linebacker Michael Akins led the WOU defense with nine tackles each. Kraig had two sacks for losses of 10 yards and Michael had one for a loss of seven yards. DB Isaiah Davis and linebacker Louie Bruketta each had five tackles for CWU. Azusa Pacific 23, Dixie State 21 (at St. George, Utah): Terrell Watson scored on runs of 44 yards in the second quarter and 10 yards early in the fourth quarter, then set up Jamie Cacciatore s game-winning 24-yard field with eight seconds left gaining 31 yards on three rushes as the Cougars won their third straight game after beginning the season with seven consecutive losses... On the deciding drive, Watson had a four-yard run to Dixie s 24-yard line on a fourth-and-one play, then on second-and-10, gained 16 yards down to the Red Storm eight-yard line... Watson finished the contest with 214 rushing yards the third highest single-game total this fall in the GNAC on 26 carries. Quarterback Nick Owens completed eight of 16 passes for 145 yards as APU finished the game with 414 yards of total offense, 286 rushing and 148 passes... Dixie had 440 yards, almost evenly split between rushing (235) and passing (205). Quarterback Griff Robles had 299 yards 205 passing ( ) and 94 rushing on 14 carries. Myles Burton added 76 rushing yards on 17 carries. Zack Fox led DSC s receivers catching six passes for 72 yards... Strong safety Tyler Thornton had 11 tackles and also had two interceptions to key Dixie s defensive effort. Linebacker Spencer Danielson was also in double figures with 10 tackles. DB Cache Morgan had 10 tackles for Dixie, while linebacker Nick Largent had eight, including two for losses of two yards. Simon Fraser 41, Humboldt State 37 (at Burnaby, BC): Lemar Durant caught a 45-yard pass from quarterback Trey Wheeler to earn Simon Fraser a victory over Humboldt State in a game that saw both teams have double-digit leads... Humboldt State scored the game s first 24 points and led 24-0 until Simon Fraser got on the board with three seconds left in the first half on a five-yard pass from Wheeler to tight end Jamal Kett. That started a run of 34 consecutive points for SFU which outscored the Lumberjacks 27-0 in the third quarter to go ahead Humboldt, however, then got an 81-yard interception return from Tanner Webb early in the fourth quarter to pull within four points, then went ahead with 5:25 left as QB Casey Mintz tossed a 31-yard pass to Tommy Darcey... It, however, took the Clan just 79 seconds to respond going 63 yards in five plays for the winning touchdown... With four minutes remaining, Humboldt State still had an opportunity and it drove all the way to the SFU 3. The big play on that drive was a fourth-and yard pass by Mintz to Darcey down to SFU s 16. But after reaching the three, Simon Fraser s defense stopped HSU on three consecutive plays, taking the ball over at the 13 after Mintz fumbled the ball for a nine-yard loss... Humboldt State finished the game with a advantage in total offense as Nick Ricciardulli rushed for 110 yards, setting GNAC singleseason records for rushing yards (1,431) and 100-yard rushing games (8). Bryson Hodges had 105 yards on 13 carries. Mintz completed 10 of 21 passes for 192 yards and three touchdowns. Darcey had four catches for 111 yards... Wheeler completed 19 of 40 for 245 yards and three touchdowns, earning his league-best eighth 200-yard game of the season. Durant had seven catches for 131 yards including his 15 th and 16 th touchdowns of the season, four shy of the GNAC single-season record of 20 set by Johnny Spevak of Central Washington during the 2008 campaign 2

3 ... Linebacker Casey Chin led Simon Fraser defensively with 11 tackles, while defensive end Dylan Roper had 10, including consecutive tackles from the 3 and 4 on Humboldt s final drive. He had four tackles for losses of 15 yards and also forced and recovered fumble. Alex Iezzi had a pair of fumble recoveries, returning both for touchdowns tying a GNAC single-season record in the process. PREVIOUS RED LION PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Week of Aug. 27-Sept. 2: Offense - Nick Ricciardulli, Humboldt State (RB, 5-8, 190, Jr., Poway, CA) rushed for 159 yards on 24 carries, scoring on touchdown runs of one and 74 yards in the Lumberjacks win over Colorado Mesa. Ricciardulli also had three receptions and finished with 162 all-purpose yards. His 74-yard jaunt equals the fifth longest in conference history. Defense Alex Markarian, Humboldt State (DE, 6-4, 245, So., Chino Hills, CA) had nine tackles including six solos and three quarterback sacks for losses of 16. Special Teams Kelly Morgan, Western Oregon (K, 5-10, 170, Sr., Sherwood, OR) kicked a 53-yard field goal the second-longest in GNAC history - and also connected from 30 yards and on both of his extra point attempts extending his streak to 58 in the Wolves loss to Grand Valley. He also averaged 65.6 yards on five kickoffs, two of which were touchbacks. Week of Sept. 3-9: Offense - Demetrius Sumler, Central Washington (RB, 5-10, 220, Sr., San Diego, CA Cathedral Catholic) rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Wildcats to a GNAC record setting rushing performance in a win at Simon Fraser. CWU, which finished with 316 rushing yards, scored six touchdowns on the ground equaling the GNAC singlegame record. Defense Jeremiah Maluia, Humboldt State (DB, 5-11, 202, Jr., Compton, CA) forced two fumbles and also intercepted a pass leading to three touchdowns as the defending GNAC champions opened their conference season with a home win over Azusa Pacific. In the first quarter, he forced a fumble to set up Humboldt s first touchdown, a 26-yard pass from Alex Rump to Victor Spencer. Later in the period he had a 25-yard interception to set up a two-yard touchdown run by Nick Ricciardulli. Early in the third quarter he forced a fumble, which he returned 62 yards for a touchdown. He and the rest of the Jacks' secondary held Azusa Pacific to 132 net passing yards, and now rank No. 5 nationally in pass efficiency defense. Maluia also had two tackles. Special Teams Alexander Bradt, Western Oregon (LB, 6-1, 210, Fr., Salem, OR West Salem) averaged 47.4 yards on five punts, including a long of 73 that was just one yard shy of the GNAC record. Week of Sept : Offense - Nick Ricciardulli, Humboldt State (RB, 5-8, 190, Jr., Poway, CA) rushed for a career-high 204 yards on 33 carries, averaging 6.2 yards to lead the Lumberjacks to a home win against Simon Fraser. Ricciardulli scored a touchdown and broke a long run of 48 yards to set up another. He also caught two passes for 18 yards as the Jacks improved to 3-0. Defense - Cedrique Chaney, Central Washington (DB, 6-0, 188, Fr., Kelso, WA) saved four potential Western Oregon touchdowns in the Wildcats overtime win at Monmouth. Chaney had a GNAC-record tying three interceptions, two in the end zone and another at the Wildcat 11-yard line. He also forced a fumble deep in CWU territory in the fourth quarter which was returned 56 yards by defensive back Kevin Puckett to set up a 34-yard, five-play drive which culminated with a nine-yard touchdown run by Johri Fogerson to tie the game with 4:13 remaining in regulation. Chaney, who also had five tackles, got his first interception in the end zone on a thirdand-goal play from the 10-yard line, on Western Oregon s first drive of the game. In the second quarter, on a firstand-10 play from the 13, he earned another end zone interception to set up a CWU kneel down to end the first half. In the third quarter, he intercepted a pass on a firstand-10 from the 36-yard line to end another WOU drive. His fourth-quarter forced fumble came after Western Oregon had drove to CWU to set up a potential gameclinching score. Special Teams - Cache Morgan, Dixie State (KR/DB, 5-11, 190, Sr., West Jordan, UT Utah State) had three kickoff returns for 135 yards, including the second 100-yard return of his career to equal his own GNAC record. He also had a five-yard interception return and a total of six tackles from his defensive back position as the Red Storm beat Azusa Pacific to improve to 2-0 in GNAC play. Week of Sept : Offense Demetrius Sumler, Central Washington (RB, 5-10, 220, Sr., San Diego, CA Cathedral Catholic) rushed for 148 yards including touchdowns from three, four and 50 yards leading the Wildcats to a win against Azusa Pacific at Pop Keeney Stadium in Bothell. Sumler s second touchdown came with 3:56 left in the first half and his third touchdown came early in the third quarter opening up a 27-7 lead. Sumler also had two receptions for 11 yards. Defense Scotland Foss, Western Oregon (LB, 6-3, 235, Sr,, Albany, OR West Albany) had two interceptions, including one in the end zone with 24 seconds remaining, to seal the Wolves home win against Simon Fraser. The clinching interception came after Simon Fraser quarterback Trey Wheeler had completed seven consecutive passes driving his team from his own 22 to the WOU 14. Foss also had six tackles, including four primaries. Special Teams - Chris Campbell, Humboldt State (P/LB, 5-11, 230, Jr., San Diego, CA) averaged 42.3 yards on three punts including a fourth-quarter boot that traveled 48 yards before it hit the ground with backspin and remained in place at the DSC 4-yard line. Week of Sept : Offense Bo Palmer, Simon Fraser (RB, 5-9, 209, Sr., North Vancouver, BC) rushed for 145 yards on just 17 carries and scored four touchdowns leading the Clan to a home win over Dixie State. Palmer scored in each period from two yards in the first quarter, 37 early in the second period, 54 late in the third stanza and one midway through the fourth quarter as the Clan earned their first conference victory of the season. Palmer, who averaged 8.5 yards per rush, also caught four passes for 23 yards as SFU had a total of 463 yards in total 3

4 offense. Defense Isaiah Davis, Central Washington (CB, 6-0, 176, Fr., Bremerton, WA South Kitsap) had 10 tackles and broke up three passes (including two in the end zone) leading the Wildcats to a 31-3 win over ninth-ranked Humboldt State, which came into the contest ranked ninth nationally in scoring averaging 42.5 points. Davis also had 98 return yards, including 42 yards on five punt returns and 56 on two kickoffs. His 40-yard return on the game s opening kickoff set up a 56-yard, 11-play touchdown drive. Special Teams Alexander Bradt, Western Oregon (P, 6-1, 210, Fr., Salem, OR West Salem) averaged 42.8 yards on eight punts including a long of 54 in the Wolves 20-7 road win at Azusa Pacific Bradt currently ranks eighth nationally in punting averaging 44.1 yards per attempt. Week of Oct. 1-7: Offense Trey Wheeler, Simon Fraser (QB, 6-1, 190, So., Seattle, WA Liberty) completed 32 of 47 passes for 378 yards and four touchdowns as the Clan matched the GNAC record for most points scored in a conference game in a home win against Azusa Pacific. Wheeler, who has had four of the five highest passing totals this fall in the GNAC (404, 378, 312 and 310), led SFU to a 654-yard offensive output in the contest. SFU matched Humboldt State s record for most points it accomplished in a win on Nov. 13, 2010 against the Clan. Defense Kraig Akins, Western Oregon (DE, 6-2, 280, So., Springfield, OR Thurston) had seven tackles, including two quarterback sacks as the Wolves held previously nationally 24 th -ranked Humboldt State to 230 yards in a win at the Redwood Bowl. Special Teams Austin Haslem, Dixie State (K, 5-9, 170, Fr., Philomath, OR) averaged 55 yards on kickoffs and also scored five points, kicking two extra points and a 27-yard field goal as the Red Storm beat first-place Central Washington Week of Oct. 8-14: Offense - Cody VonAppen, Western Oregon (QB, 5-10, 200, Sr., Kailua, HI) and Demetrius Sumler, Central Washington (RB, 5-10, 220, Sr., San Diego, CA Colorado) are the Red Lion Offensive Co- Players of the Week. VonAppen completed 16 of 27 passes for 424 yards and four touchdowns as the Wolves used a 21-point first quarter and a 28-point fourth quarter to cruise to a win over Dixie State. VonAppen had one of the most efficient games in GNAC history by a quarterback averaging a GNAC-record 26.5 yards per completion The previous record for yards per completion was 25.5 by WOU s Josh Riddell (13-332) against CWU in Sumler rushed for 226 yards and tied a GNAC record with five rushing touchdowns to lead the Wildcats to a Homecoming win before 5,120 fans at Tomlinson Stadium. Sumler scored on runs of one and 47 yards in the first quarter, 27 in the second quarter, eight in the third quarter and 37 in the fourth quarter moving into third place in the nation in scoring with 84 points. He also caught three passes for four yards. Defense - Colton Russi, Humboldt State (LB, 6-2, 240, Jr., Meadow Vista, CA) who was coming back from a leg injury that kept him out of the lineup for three games, made several big hits and led the Jacks in tackles with nine in a win over Azusa Pacific in earning Red Lion Defensive Player of the Week honors. Special Teams - Chris Campbell, Humboldt State (P, 5-10, 170, So, Granite Bay, CA) averaged 40.8 yards on eight punts, including a long of 51 yards in the Lumberjacks win over Azusa Pacific. Campbell placed two punts inside the 20-yard line and didn't have a touchback to claim the Red Lion Special Teams Player of the Week award. Week of Oct : Offense - Nick Ricciardulli, Humboldt State (RB, 5-8, 190, Jr., Poway, Calif.) rushed for 206 yards on only 18 carries, scoring three touchdowns and surpassing 200 yards for the third time this season and the second consecutive game to claim his third Red Lion Player of the Week award this fall. He was also the Jacks' leading receiver with four catches for 83 yards, including a 60-yard touchdown hook-up from quarterback Casey Mintz. Ricciardulli, who ranks third in NCAA Division II rushing with yards per game, has gone over the 100- yard mark in all but one of the Jacks eight games to equal a GNAC single-season record for most 100-yard rushing games of seven. Defense - Nick Grunsky, Azusa Pacific (SS, 5-10, 190, Jr., Folsom, CA Vista del Lago) had an interception at the Cougars 11-yard line with 12 seconds left to seal a upset of Central Washington. Just prior to the interception, he was credited with a pass breakup. Grunsky also earned eight tackles in the win in earning Red Lion Defensive Player of the Week honors. Special Teams - Gustave Benthin, Western Oregon (DL, 6-2, 285, Jr., Nampa, ID) blocked an 18-yard field goal attempt that would have tied the game with 6:30 left in the fourthquarter as the Wolves extended their win streak to five games with a road win at Simon Fraser earning him Red Lion Special Team honors. He also had seven tackles and assisted on a tackle for a loss. Week of Oct : Offense Lemar Durant, Simon Fraser (WR, 6-2, 226, So., Coquitlam, BC) caught 12 passes for 228 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Clan to a win over Dixie State and earn Red Lion Offensive Player of the Week honors. Durant tied a GNAC single-game record for most touchdown receptions and his yardage total was just eight yards shy of the GNAC singlegame record. He had TD catches of 10, 73, 27 and six yards, four of a GNAC single-game record six thrown by Clan quarterback Trey Wheeler. Defense - Ryan Moreno, Humboldt State (LB, 6-0, 207, Poway, CA) and Sean Barber, Azusa Pacific (LB, 6-1, 225, Jr., Edgewood, WA Puyallup)... Moreno scored the Lumberjacks first touchdown on a 20-yard interception return. The true freshman then forced Central Washington, which was trailing 14-7, to settle for a fourth-quarter field goal after breaking up a pass attempt on third down. He also made five tackles as the defending champion Jacks took command of the GNAC race with a victory...
