SOUTH AUGUSTA FOOTBALL CLUB YEAR SUMMARY SUMMARY Tonight marks the end of another football year for the club and another hard year for the volunteers who continue to keep the club going through their hard work and dedication. It was a great turn around year for the senior grades in 2010 after a disappointing 2009 with the A Grade finishing second after finishing top after the Minor round but unfortunately losing the grand final and the thirds unlucky not to make the grand final after losing to the undefeated Lions team in the Second semi Final after extra time. There was a lot of hard work around the club to enable this recovery and most will be recognised tonight at the presentations. Many thanks to Anthony Anno, Mark Austin, Robert Laube and their assistants who contributed their time and effort during the year, especially Anthony who has coached the A grade for the second year, nearly won a premiership but will hand over the reins in Many thanks to all the coaches, support staff and volunteers for the year and congratulations to all the trophy winners in Lets get behind the footballers in 2011 and keep us up there where we belong and please join the Vice Presidents club next year. Highlights for the year. The A Grade team only losing 3 games for the year after finishing fifth last year, an excellent improvement. Ryan struck winning the Madigan Medal in 2010 to top off an outstanding year. Clayton struck winning the Port Augusta Medal for the best Port Augusta Under 18s player. Robert Laube being awarded the SANFL merit award for the best Junior Coach of the year in the SGL. Jeff Shillabeer and the late Harold Bowman inducted into the Port Augusta Hall of Fame Matthew Grantham, Ricky Johnson, Brett Jones, Brodie Cox, Jason Lukich, Todd Kernahan, Michael Curley, Chris Heron, Adam Grantham, Jak Kerin, Brodie Cox, Brock Laube making Port Augusta team of the year. Jason Lukich, James Little and Daniel Royals winning Fairest and best awards in their grades. The club doing such a great job catering for events during the year including the Hall of Fame dinner, numerous weddings, reunions and birthdays, over 5,000 meals during the year coordinated by our group of volunteers who helped. Trevor White and Joylene continuing their great catering work. Projects such as the Drinkwise responsible drinking program and the Indigenous Gym Program being conducted during the year. Milestones games for the Seniors included Corey Bawdin 100 Senior Games, Hector Hannes 100 Senior Games and Daniel Dohnt 100 League Games Congratulations to Jason Lukich, Brodie Cox, Adam Grantham, Brock Laube, Ryan Struck, Matty Grantham and Ricky Johnson making the SGL Squad.

Great to see the players from return to the club for the 50 th Anniversary of the opening of the club, especially past present Jim Brandle who opened the club. Jim is aged over 90 years who travelled from WA for the night A GRADE COACHES REPORT Hello fellow Southies. What a year we have had. We can say in one breathe that it was an exciting and good year with us holding top position for most of the year and in the other we can say it was disappointing due to our Grand Final loss. However in saying that, last year I stated that I believed the group of players that we have and with the right attitude (for the team and not just for themselves) and hard work on the track that it will pay off and with that hard work and commitment it could get us to the Finals. And as they showed this year, it is a credit to them coming from 5 th last year to 2 nd this year. The new recruits of Jason Lukich, Corey Finlay, Brodie Cox and Michael Skull blended straight into the team. It was good to see one of our colts, Jak Kerin come back from Adelaide every week-end and play. We had a couple of old Southies come back and play - Ricky Johnson and Scott Feltus who both put in valuable contributions. Also during the year I was surprised to get a phone call from Daniel Collins to say that he was moving to Whyalla and wanted to make a commitment and play for us. During the year we had some bad luck, firstly with Simon Brushnahan who went down in the second game which we thought was a bad knee sprain. Due to some swelling, we rested him for a week and with the swelling down he played the next week. Unbeknown to us and him he had badly done damage to his knee and was requiring a full knee reconstruction. Simon has now had his operation and I wish him all the best in his road to recovery. Secondly we had another season ending injury with our Captain Adam Grantham who went down with the same injury. Unlike Simon, Adam knew something bad had happened and it was confirmed after a visit to the quack in Adelaide. Adam was having a terrific season and it showed with him coming third in the Madigan Medal and runner up in the Best and Fairest. Adam has also had his operation and I also wish him all the best in his road to recovery. With the loss of Adam, there were 2 players who put their hand up to take that leadership role, Ryan Struck and Michael Curley. Michael was appointed the Captaincy and he showed his true leadership skills not only on the field but off it too. Ryan had been there before and with his experience made sure we kept our momentum going towards the Finals. Congratulations go to Ryan Struck for winning the Madigan Medal. Also congratulations to Jason Lukich, Brodie Cox, Adam Grantham, Brock Laube, Ryan Struck, Matty Grantham and Ricky Johnson making the SGL Squad. Only Ricky and Mathew did not play due to injury. Ryan Struck went on to be picked for Northern Cities side. Also we had 12 representatives in the 2010 Port Augusta Team of the Year Christian Reid, Jak Kerin, Michael Curley, Mathew Grantham, Jason Lukich, Ryan Struck, Ricky Johnson, Brodie Cox, Brett Jones, Todd Kernahan, Brock Laube and Adam Grantham. Honourable mentions for the year Mathew Grantham who stood up in the back line, Brett Jones who came second in the Madigan Medal, veterans Christian Reid and Dwayne Crombie who showed their experience, Brock Laube again for a warrior like season, Daniel Dohnt who showed that when he is fit (and doesn t eat a lot of KFC) can play good footy.

Firstly, I would like to thank my wife, Rochelle and my children for giving me the support I needed throughout the year. If I didn t have their support, I don t think I would have been able to put the time and effort in required to coach. I would like to thank Jamie McTaggart for his honest contributions and who gave me the time to listen to me ramble on. Choco for doing the stats and Nick Heron for managing the team and getting the numbers right for the players on game day. I would also like to thank Mark Austin, Gary Kernahan, Patrick Hynes, Chris Struck and Iain Elloitt for assisting me throughout the year. I also would like to thank Harry Waterworth (who is now retired) and Mark Shirley who are tireless workers for this club and the Football Committee for giving me the opportunity to coach this great club. A big thank you to Peter Walsh for being there every pre-season and season training. Cletus, Steve, Blacky, Dougie, Billie and Mark for running the water and rub downs for the year. And to Val Waterworth (who said she was retiring) for assisting Peter in getting the players on the track and for telling the players off, when they are injured when they don t get any treatment until the last night of training. Also a big thank you to all of the Supporters who came to every game wearing proudly their red and white and shouting for their team. It is no doubt that we have a big following throughout the whole year and not just finals. Congratulations to Darcy Noll for the U15 Medal and Clayton Struck for the Port Augusta U18 Medal. Also congratulations to the Colt teams and coaches that made the Grand Final and to those who won. Also congratulations to all of those who won trophies in their respective grades. From the players to the officials and the supporters, I would like to thank those who assisted and supported me in the 2 years I coached. I enjoyed it immensely and wish the club, great success for the future. Lastly I would like to apologise to anyone I have left out. 4 B GRADE REPORT 2010 Very long year for the B Grade, a key group of players that supported each other this season was fantastic. We needed a few more players to stand up and help there team mates and the club. To finish the season with 1 win is not acceptable and as a club need to get B Grade team back to be contenders. We have a group of at least 10 colts coming through next year so hopeful this will assist the next B Grade Coach. To Matthew McInnis and Garth Baker have been really helpful this season, and the way they have supported me through this tough season was fantastic. I also would like to thank the football committee for their support and given me the opportunity to coach. The season provided some highlights from some of the players and need to be recognised, they are James Little who is certain to play A grade footy next season and the captain Damien "Bluey" Bolitho who keeps on going and always provides good advice to the players. What we need to do as a group is put in a good pre season work and work on fitness and ball skills. Well done to Clayton Struck on winning the Port Augusta under 18s medal. Thanks you to all that helped during the season Iain and Liam Elliott, Gazza, Cletus Moroney, Marcey and Peter Welsh. Andrew Magarey for being the runner all season. Brock Laube for this assistance on the bench. A special mention to Ajaye and Slade Laube for liaising with the

boys that go to Port Augusta High School and Graham Coutts for chasing up players at the start of the season. Finally thank you to Jane Laube for washing the jumpers. Well done to all the trophy winners. Hope you all come back next season. But with the 2 sides the boys didn t let the club down south red finished 3rd behind west 1st and south white 2nd and the end of the season. Come finals my guys (south red) played well and made a much deserved grand final by beating south white in what was the match of the year with us going in to 3 quarter time down and getting up in the last 2 minutes with and great quarter by Clayton Milera ( 3 goals), Marcus Kerin, Josh Wilson and Slade Laube to name a few. We went down in the grand final by a full strength west but the out come on the score board was not the story of the season because the boys put their heart and soul on the line week in week out. During the year there was a game between the SGL and Whyalla with players from port Augusta and port Pirie played representatives from south red were Slade Laube, Marcus Kerin and Layton Buzzacott-Paige getting a gig in the team and all playing well. Also during the year there was under 15's combine comp between Port Augusta, Port Pirie and Northern Areas players from south red who made the cut were Slade Laube, Marcus Kerin, Layton Buzzacott-Paige, Nathan Paige, Josh Wilson, Tom Bolitho and Clayton Milera from the day players were picked to represent North Adelaide Country in a competition during the school holidays for a week 3 of my guys Slade Laube, Marcus Kerin and Clayton Milera getting to go down for the week and play. Thank you to go to my wife to be Carah for her support and efforts to help out during the year, my right hand man Shirls, Robert struck and Mick kerin for goal umpiring when they could, the umpires that umpire for me during the year in jack Waterworth, lee Wilcox, Mick maloney, Jason DiPaolo and Mark Austin. Finally most of all I would like to thank the boys that I have coached not only this year but over the whole 4 year stint I did coaching the south red team since 2007 some of the lads I coached all 4 years ( Slade Laube, Layton Buzzacott-Paige, Nathan Paige and Josh Wilson ) others maybe they were for 3 some for 2 some for 1 even the lads that I never coached because they were in south white but I still had the enjoyment of coaching all the boys at training white or red to see these little boys turn to young men has been by far in my life to date the greatest feeling I have had and makes me so proud of what they have become so thank you lads. Trophy winners were Best and Fairest Layton Buzzacott-Paige Runner Up Marcus Kerin Best Team Man Slade Laube

MVP Clayton Paige Most consistent Clayton Milera Most Improved Tom Bolitho Most Dedicated Tom Struck Best 1st Year Player Craig Shirley Coaches Trophy Andy Warren Cheers for the year Curls UNDER 15S SOUTH WHITE 2010 REPORT South White had a really good year finishing 2 nd on the ladder at the end of the minor rounds and just getting piped in the last couple of minutes by South Red to play off in the Grand final. The Quality of football players were of a high standard in this team with many players playing in the town side and plenty picked in the SGL team. 2 of these players went onto play for the North Adelaide District in Adelaide and won the Grand Final against all other districts of SA. South Augusta under 18s will be very strong over the next few years with the standard of players coming through with most players with the ability to play A grade in the near future and some with the ability to play at an even higher level. Highlight for the year was Darcy Noll winning the association medal. Special Thank you go out to Alistair Miller being the Team Manger, Dion Charleswoth as runner, Craig Ritter and Fayne Keasler helping out anywhere/everywhere needed and Michael Curley and South Red team for another great and competitive year. Best Utility was Pat Miller UNDER 13S 2010 REPORT An extremely difficult year this year as we started out with 1 team in mind then went with 2 teams and then after 3 games decided to go back to 1 team In the end I still believe that this was the correct decision as we were able to spend more time teaching the boys more skills and tactics and to show them that discipline and determination are the key to playing football I must congratulate and thank all the boys who stuck with me and to all the parents who did the same. We did have 7 boys from Quorn who made the effort to attend training and to play and there is some very good talent amongst them

The under 11 competition was very tight this year and it showed in some of our results. Early in the season we won most of our matches but as it progressed every game became very tough. The standard of football played throughout the season by all sides was very good and I think it continues to surprise new spectators how well the kids play the game. As with last season we worked on skills, taught the kids knowledge of the game and tactics required as well. It constantly amazes me how quickly kids in this age group can grasp new ideas and it s even better when you see them instigating them on the field. I would like to thank Phil Brown for getting me organised on match day, Simon Robinson for keeping the score, bench stats and time keeping, Donna Irvine for washing the gurneys each week, Jane Owens for organising the hot dog trailer and the roster along with Rachel Macintosh, Simon Owens for his work with the hot dog trailer, time keeping, goal umpiring and all the other things he did for me, Rob Rozee for his help at training, coaching a game when I was away and umpiring for us, Michael Horner also for help at training and umpiring ( even if his dad bags him when he s umpiring ), and to all the parents for getting the kids to and from training and games. Thanks to Craig Ritter, David Williams and the rest of the colts football committee for all the support and work they put in during the year. And lastly thank you to Kellianne, Macee and Callen Reynolds for all their support and help. 8 Although we did not finish on top of the ladder this season all the kids were winners because they improved so much over the season. Everyone learnt a lot including the coach. Thank you to the South Augusta Football Club and the Parents for giving me the opportunity to coach the kids, and to the kids for being such a disciplined and respectful group. Andrew Reynolds UNDER 9s REPORT 2010 Once again many juniors wanted to play for the SAFC due to good club culture and support for junior grades. With almost 40 players attending training before the first game, it enabled the 5,6,7 year olds to play in their own Mini League competition. With approx 24 players left to play U/9s, much work was to be done to get the group ready for the first game. Training focussed on kicking, handballing, tackling and team orientated skills. Throughout the year more games were won than lost with a steady improvement, culminating in being runner up at the Quorn U/9 carnival.. Highlights of the year included the dominance of forwards Tamika Reid and Zyrone Wilton, the improvement of Harry Bolitho, Ethan Reid and Hamish Lord. Two South Augusta Madigan Medallists had their sons in Isaac Keeler and Kaleb Struck start their football journeys. Congratulations to Clay Willcock and Angus McInnis who this year have completed 5 years of U/9s starting as 4 year olds. Many thanks to all parents, supporters and those who assisted at training and umpiring games. A special thankyou to team manager/ess Tricia Noble who washed the guernseys, organised the Hot Dog trailer, administered first aide and was every kids mum when needed. My time in the U/9s is completed after 5 years so i wish all the players and their families who have assisted me in the past all the best in their football futures. LEE WILLCOCK MINI LEAGUE Our 5,6,7 year olds playing there first year of footy once again had their chance to strut their stuff on Central Oval in front of proud parents, spectators and the SGL. Ten games were played at 1/2 time of selected A grade games with modified rules.the first year players got to experience the big boys change rooms and the thrill of competition.players were taught the basic skills of kicking, marking, the positions on the ground and team discipline.many thanks to the players, parents and spectators for supporting this competition. Thanks to the Colts Football Committee for purchasing a new set of guernseys which were worn proudly.it is hoped that this competition will continue in 2011 as it has proven to be a great stepping stone for players starting their football journey. Future stars for Souths who played their first year of football include, kaleb Struck,Ethan and Dalton Gade,Joe Clancy,Quentan Grantham,Tamika Reid,Jack Franklin,Ethan Franks and Conner Beattie-Dadleh. 16 Congratulations to the following players who played their first A or B Grade match in 2010 to bring the total of players since 1912 to 1660, may be there be many more to come for these lads. Our accommodation which was booked early in the year pulled out with six weeks to go and let me tell you one mention of a footy trip and you might as well have the plague when trying to book accommodation. Luckily thanks to some local Knowledge Simon Owens put us onto the Sliver Spade Hotel/Motel and the lovely Ruth booked 23 of us in for the weekend. Just when I thought we could relax I found out I needed to apply for a liquor license for the bus, which could not be done two days before going. Once word of this got around I had phone calls from all the grog monsters going on the trip and you would have thought it was a major disaster. So we had to stop every 60km or so to have a beer (it was a long trip). The shirts for the trip rolled up on the Friday morning before we left so it all fell into place. For the first time since 2000 we took the players on an end of season trip to Broken Hill and the Silver City did not disappoint. We took in most of the cultural attractions of Broken Hill mainly all types of gambling, pubs and clubs. We had taken six sets of golf clubs for a round at the country club on Saturday but due to a popular vote we went to the grey hounds instead. Word has already reached Port Augusta about footballers running around in pyjamas and nighties at the dogs. These guys were from the Riverton Football Club and not to be confused with us. It was a great two days with everyone sticking together and having a really good time. Honourable mentions must got to Dwayne Crombie and Kevin Harris for having two huge days and possibly the least amount of sleep, Todd Kernahan for his throwing style in the two up ring, Jube for best entry into a two up ring, Matty Skull for his nanna nap on Saturday arvo, Scott Feltus for inspiring

and rallying the troops into action when things got a bit stale, Ricky Johnson for beating the roulette machine, Anthony Anno for showing us how to eat Chinese food with not only chop sticks but his eyes closed as well, Simon Brusnahan who is showing some true staying ability (I think Cromb was his mentor), Double D because we met his long lost twin and finally Chris Heron who when asked late on Friday night by a bouncer at the Mulga bar if we had a Simon on our team replied no. After Simon Brusnahan cancelled his credit card the next day Chris remembered and said well I know him as Brushy don t I. Thanks to everyone who helped raise money during the year, Daniel Dohnt and Michael Heron for organising the party bags, Chris Heron for collecting the money, Todd Kernahan for his efforts, sports centre for the shirts at short notice (2 days), Pastoral Hotel for supplying echo holders, Buses R Us for getting us there and back, Dave the bus driver for his patience (we really tested it on the way up) and to Ruth at the Silver Spade Hotel/Motel for putting us up. I have talked to her since and we would be welcome back which is a good result after 23 blokes spend two days on the gas and stay together at a motel. Thanks to Jack Waterworth for his advice with organisation but don t tell him we spent all the money.
