Friday 2nd March, 2018 Ditch World those Book Stabilisers Day Headteacher Christina Jackson, BA Hons Yesterday, we celebrated World Book Day and promoted a love of Literacy. We were delighted with the fabulous support from parents in sending their children to school as a character from a book. We also launched the prestigious Writer of the Year competition for KS2. The children had an inspiring day participating in a range of literacy based activities including designing a new character for their favourite story. The best entries will be awarded points for their house team. We finished our day by awarding prizes for the most creative costumes and with a special story titled The Day the Books Fell written and read by a team of talented Year 6 writers (Dillon, Connie, Grace and Ellie). Tel: Please visit our website ATTENDANCE School attendance this week is 95.5% which is above national average. 2 LFC Foundation World Book Day Event On Tuesday, some of our Year 5 and 6 pupils attended a World Book Day event at Anfield Stadium. The event was hosted by the LFC Foundation in the Kenny Daglish Stand. The workshop was delivered by the authors of the Football Stories Series, Ben Littleton and Alex Bellos. During the workshop the children found out about the importance of nutrition for footballers and the qualities needed in different positions on the pitch. They also looked at the geography of Brazil and considered why the country produces so many talented, skilful footballers. The pupils attended represented Kew Woods superbly, interacting with all of the activities. See Twitter for additional photographs and video clips of the event.

Pay a Compliment and Smile Day We finished off a busy week with our Pay a Compliment and Smile Day. Our KS2 Anti-Bullying Ambassadors came up with the idea and suggested the activities for the day. They introduced the activities in their own classes and were supported with a powerpoint written by our Year 6 ambassadors. A range of fun activities took place during the day including making a paper smile and putting it on a stick! This activity made everyone smile! Thank you to our ever supportive parents who donated cakes for the day for the children to enjoy together.

Kew Football Last week our A Football team attended a Premier League Sports Tournament Hosted by LFC. The tournament started with a talk from an ex-professional footballer who is now a Kick it Out Ambassador. He discussed with the children equality and inclusion within life and sports. The children then participated in group activities which they engaged with fully and enjoyed. Following the workshops, the team participated in some matches, winning three and losing three. Well done to everyone who represented the school so well. 5 Sports Hall Athletics Our Year 5 and 6 Athletics Team went to Greenbank High School for the Sports Hall Athletics Competition. They took part in a range of track and field events and performed with a fantastic team spirit. Unfortunately, we didn t progress to the finals this year but we did finish in a very credible 4th place. Well done.

Everton Supporters As our school is affiliated with Everton Football Club, through the School Supporters Club initiative, our pupils have been invited to take part in the 2017/18 Predictor Challenge. The challenge aims to put their predicting skills to the test with 5 simple questions such as how many goals do they think will be scored in the premier league this season and who will be EFC top scorer? For taking part, each participant will be entered into a draw to win a full 2018/19 home kit. The overall winner of the challenge will win a shirt signed by a first-team player. To take part, please visit evertonfc.com/predictor challenge and complete the form on the page. The challenge will run until Friday 6 April, 5pm. The winner of the signed shirt will be contacted on Tuesday 10 April and the ultimate winner announced on Monday 21 May, so get predicting!

Knowsley Safari Park Year 1 visited Knowsley Safari Park as part of their WOW event to open their new topic 'Rumble in the Jungle'. They came to face to face and even got to interact with insects from the jungle. They watched Arthur and Roger, Knowsley's resident sea lions, perform lots of different tricks then ended the day with a guided tour around the safari spotting rhinos, lions and tigers!
