AJAX Community Day On Saturday 1 st September 2012 the Ajax Community Day was held at Princes Park. A massive crowd estimated at over 1,000 spectators attended and were spread out all around the oval. The day started off with the AJAX Reserves playing first against Beaumaris. At the conclusion of the reserves match Rob Greenberg and his Auskick team took to the field with his various age groups participating in Grid matches. The AJAX Seniors then took to the field in their final home and away match against Beaumaris. At the half time break of the senior match the Jackettes, being the AJFC Girls team demonstrated their skills in front of the large crowd by playing a match against an AJAX Junior boy s team. Although the day ended with the Seniors falling short by 10 points, the Community Day was a huge success. Our thanks go to everyone associated with organising the day and to the spectators who attended and witnessed a great day of football. The Jackettes team ready to take to the field.

Q & A s with an AJFC identity with? In the last edition of the Weekly Wrap for Season 2012 we grill an AJFC identity that is well known around the club. It is.. 1. Everyone within the club calls you Tell us the reason behind the name? When I was a little boy my mother gave me this nickname and it has stuck with me ever since. 2. In Season 2012 you assumed the roles as the Vice President Football and Chairman of the Match Committee. What did those roles entail? Everything and I mean everything, associated and related to footy. It ranged from appointing coaches to selecting the teams to parent management. 3. What role was more demanding and why? Parent management. Why, well. 4. As Chairman of the Match Committee I assume you would have received numerous phone calls, s, text messages, at the start of the season when you were selecting the teams. How many of these did you receive and did you respond to each and every one? I received 430 of them and yes, I responded to each and every one of them. 5. During the season you spent a lot of time at the club whether it was on training nights or on match days. How many hours did you actually spend at the club? A minimum of 40 hours. 6. Describe for the AJFC community what a typical day would involve for you on a Sunday. At 6.45am I arrive at the car-park to ensure that no-one has taken that prominent car parking spot that belongs to me!! At 6.50am I open up the rooms. At 6.55am I take out all the equipment. At 7.00am all the notices for the Junior matches that will be played are put up on the changeroom doors. At 7.10am I have a lie down in the change-rooms, and then wake up at whatever time someone arrives at the club!!! Once I m fully awake I would watch as many games of Junior football as possible on a Sunday from the Auskick program all the way through to the U17 s.
7. The 2012 season for the AJFC has finished. What would you say were the highlights of the season for the club? 1. The formation of the inaugural Girls team, the Jackettes. 2. Watching the kids play U9 s for AJAX for the very 1 st time. 3. Every Sunday is a highlight for me as I enjoy watching Jewish Boys & Girls playing football. 8. I noticed you didn t make any mention of the comprehensive and brilliant weekly wraps as being a highlight. Why was that? The weekly wraps were more than a highlight, they were magnificent. The editor of the wraps would have to be the BEST person the club employed this year. Editor s comment: Thanks Cook, I m prepared to sign a 3 million $$ contract to do the wraps for the next 3 years!!! 9. When do you commence planning for the 2013 season? Actually planning for next season started last week. 10. As the current Vice President Football and Chairman of the Match Committee and with a great deal of knowledge of Junior Football, do you know how many days there are before the 2013 Junior football season commences? I have no idea. Editor s comments: It s less than 230 days before the start of the 2013 Junior season. 11. I see you played a bit of footy with AJAX. Tell me about your career? 1. Started my senior career when I was 16 and played until I was Was Captain of the AJAX seniors for 4 years ( ). 3. Captained the Seniors in 3 grand finals but unfortunately never managed to taste success in any of them. 12. And what awards did you win during your Career? 1. Numerous Junior awards. 2. Won the seniors best and fairest in What were some of the memorable moments you experienced whilst playing? 1. Enjoyed playing with the Junior football club. 2. Experienced 3 promotions in my senior football career when the club achieved promotions from E grade, to D grade then to C grade. 14. Which AFL Team do you support? There is only 1 team to support, the mighty CARLTON.
15. On Thursday 30 August 2012 you were at Visy Park, home of the Carlton Football Club where an important announcement was made to the media and the football community. Were you hoping that Sticks Kernahan would announce to the media they have appointed you as the new Vice President Football or the Chairman of the Match Committee? How did you know I was there?. I was hoping the media were all there for me as I am more than happy to stand for those positions. Editor s comments: Cook, I ll keep you guessing how I knew you were at Visy Park on that day. 16. If you were recruited into these roles at Carlton, in 10 words or less finish this sentence. If I was the Vice President Football of Carlton I would.. 1. Have kept Ratts for 1 more year as coach. 2. Make an immediate announcement regarding the coaching position. 17. And then, if I was the Chairman of the Match Committee of Carlton I would. Recruit Brendon Goddard and Travis Cloke. Editor s comments: Time will tell whether this takes place!!! 18. Cook, tell me what do you do outside of football? 1. I work minimal hours. 2. I have lunch with my wife 4 days a week. 3. I spend the rest of the day managing the football club as the AJFC is really a full time job. Editor s comments: Cook, so you don t have breakfast or dinner with your wife, only lunch 4 days a week. Who do you have lunch with on the other 3 days..mmmm!!!! 19. As this is the last weekly wrap for the 2012 season, I ll let you have the last word. Is there anything you want to say to the AJFC community? Let s aim to break the record number of registrations for season 2013 and ensure football is the number 1 sport. Cook, thank you for your time in answering these grilling questions and the AJFC community will see you in 2013.
Cook - Vice President Football and Chairman of the Match Committee This is our final weekly wrap for season The President Daniel Antman and his committee thank all of you for your efforts in Season Whether this was your first season from learning the skills taught in Auskick, to playing in any of the Junior teams from our U9 s to the U17 s boys teams, or being part of the inaugural U12 girls team, your involvement either as a player, volunteer or supporter for the club is vital. Without you, we don t have a club. For those of you in your first season with the Jackas we hope you enjoyed the season and for those who have been here for many years, we appreciate your continued support. The President and the Committee would also like to thank all the coaches, managers, trainers and assistants who helped the teams in Finally we must thank our Sponsors, Teska Carson, ANZ Bank, Brighton Toyota and the Pratt Foundation for your continued support in Season 2012 and for supporting local Jewish Football. WE HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL BACK IN SEASON 2013.

Seniors Wrap Round 18 AJAX FC NEWSLETTER ROUND 18 V BEAUMARIS Sheehy says goodbye as Jackas season ends THE AJAX Football Club has farewelled coach Bernie Sheehy (pictured), who took charge of the side for the last time in its (134) to (124) loss to Beaumaris at Princes Park on the weekend. In front of a huge crowd celebrating the club s community day, the Jackas were unable to provide Sheehy with the perfect send-off. I thought the time was right, Sheehy told I ve really enjoyed the four years. Two of them were pretty tough but two good years probably balances the book. [The club] would be keen for me to stay and that s understandable, but they have accepted the decision. After winning promotion to B- Grade at the end of the 2011 season, merely maintaining its spot in the competition would be viewed as a pass mark by some, but a typically candid Sheehy said the side's record of seven wins and 11 losses was nothing to write home about. It was good that we stayed up, but it was a terribly weak B Grade year down the bottom, Sheehy said. But of course I m happy they stayed up and it will give them a good crack at it next year. David Fayman kicked eight goals in the game against Beaumaris to take his tally to 60 for the year, which makes him the club's and the league s top goalscorer for the third consecutive season. Marcus Jankie rounded out his great year with a solid performance, as did Warren Steinberg, Rubin Winograd and Adam Caplan. Goal-sneak Nadav Harel and ruckman Jarrod White slotted truly to give the teskacarson Jackas an early lead, before Beaumaris hit back with two of its own. The Jackas midfield was all over its opponent and set up Fayman for another and Lew for his first to give the Jackas a nine-point lead at the first break. But the visitors ramped up their pressure in the second term, kicking six goals to four to take a narrow advantage into half time. Both sides came out after the main break with great intensity, but neither could convert chances in front of goal. ANZ Bank
Harel finally found the big sticks after a lull in the play and was quickly followed by Lew, who booted a beauty from distance. But Beaumaris again found a way to claw its way back into the lead, and after the sides went goal-for-goal, the Jackas found themselves seven points down at the final break. It was an outstanding last quarter from both teams, who put on 13 goals between them. The Jackas players gave everything, but it was Beaumaris who came out on top in the end, despite the heroics from star forward Fayman who kicked three for the term. The reserves ended their season on a sour note, losing to Beaumaris (116) to 7.5 (47). They also finished seventh on the ladder with four wins and 14 losses. 20 Bernie Sheehy, our Senior Premiership Coach announced his retirement in his post game address to players and supporters.in an emotional speech Bernie said after 4 years in the job he felt it was time to move on.his effect on the players and the club cannot be under estimated and we thank him for all his efforts. Captain Gary Blieden also spoke of Bernie s achievements and value to the club and then announced that he will step down as captain next year but will be keen to play on in Premier B Section. Congratulations to Jesse Kochen and Jesse Osowicki who each played their 100 th game for the club.
AJAX Community Day A great Community Day was had by the AJAX Football Club on Saturday, September 1st at Princes Park, South Caulfield the home of our Juniors. It was a great celebration of the Junior s 40 year anniversary. More than 1,000 people were in attendance, with the ground in perfect condition and the sun shining, to witness a showcase of Junior & Senior talent. The Member for Caulfield, David Southwick got the Senior game under way with the toss of the coin and we were delighted to have Mayor Jamie Hyams,Cr Frank Penhallurick,Cr Cheryl Forge and Cr Margaret Esakoff in attendance.
