1 The Newsletter of Ariah Park Central School Week 4A Term 3 Monday, 7 th August 2017 Education Week Open Day Science Show Open Day last Friday was a great success as Ariah Park Central School celebrated Education Week. The cappuccinos and cake for morning tea received plenty of support, as did the Science Show and Dog Training. There were some very colourful canvases created for the different seasons, which we will hope to see hung in the school, and the S.T.E.M. centre continued to be a hit with the motorised vehicles and coding lessons on display. Most popular of all, of course, was the Ninja Warrior challenge in the school hall! Thank you to all those staff, parents and students who contributed to the success of the day. This week continues to be busy. Tomorrow evening is the monthly P&C Meeting and Friday will be the PSSA Athletics Carnival held here at Ariah Park, which we thank Ms Horne and our SASS staff for working hard to organise. The RAP Under 15 Boys Basketball is on Wednesday at Leeton and we wish Jack McCormack well. Friday, 11/8/17 D Worland, C Heward Monday, 14/8/17 A Fairman, S Furphy P & C Meeting Our monthly meeting will be held tomorrow evening, 8 th August 2017, in the school library, commencing at 7.30pm. We look forward to welcoming you. Fly-In The Temora Fly-in is Saturday, 19 th August and we are looking for volunteers to help man the canteen. We receive $500 to the P&C for doing this, which enables us to do many things for your children. Please put your hand up for a shift. Contact Joel on

Mrs Jennings KROP On the 2 nd and 3 rd August 2017 the KROP students travelled over to Griffith to perform their routine, The Best Day of My Life. The routine consisted of drama, music on the drums and a dance routine, as our star performer, Bella Fairman, blew the audience away with her singing talent. With early morning starts and two late nights, students were extremely well behaved. I would like to congratulate the students on their wonderful effort and their team spirit, as they supported each other to get ready and overcome nerves. Thank you to Miss Horne for driving the bus and assisting with hairstyles as well as Louise O Dwyer and Jamie Judd who also came along and supported our students to get ready, doing many heads of hair and make-up. Thank you to Suse Furphy for helping out for the entire first day and to Rachel Heath, Renae Golder and Gayl Wilson for lending your sewing skills to sew our costumes. A big thank you to Sam Dart who assisted with the organising of the costumes and spent endless hours cutting out material and organising our equipment. Finally, thank you to parents for supporting the students participation in the wonderful opportunity that KROP provides for our students. I feel so very

3 lucky to be part of such a wonderful school community. Miss Pollard Congratulations Mr Denham on completing his first KROP show as Stage Manager Woolworths Earn and Learn is Back On Stickers may be left at the Front Office or sent in with your child/ren. There will also be an Ariah Park Central School collection box provided at the Temora store. Healthy Bones Action Week The first week of August marks Healthy Bones Action Week across the country. Healthy Harold and the Life Education programs partner, with schools, to enhance and develop messages about healthy eating and maintaining good health and wellbeing. Through the programs, children not only identify good foods, but learn about the physical impacts and importance of nourishing their body. As almost 60 percent of 2-16 year olds miss out on their daily recommended dairy intake, now is a good time to add an extra portion in their lunchboxes! Secondary Excursion Update The Secondary Excursion is now scheduled to run Week 7 Term 4. The excursion has been postponed until Term 4 due to the large number of secondary students who are involved in netball and football finals. We don't want any students to miss out on this opportunity. Thank you for your understanding regarding this matter. Northern Jets Weekly Football Report- Round 15 JETS vs Coleambally Coleambally Under 11 s The boys had a great win, all the boys contributed to this great result. Joe Quade had a great game on the ball and kicked a goal to win the Ardlethan Pharmacy Socks Award. Will Fairman played a good game in the forward pocket with a few kicks and handballs to win the GBS Fuel $10 Award. Noah Harper chipped in with four goals, Darcy Gaynor two goals and Cooper Herden one to be among the better players. Other stand out players included Max Collis, Tom Writer and Angus Pursehouse. Great job boys! Final Score Jets defeated Coleambally Under 13 s The Jets Under 13 s team had a good win against Coleambally. They played a great tem game and moved the ball well down the field. The $10 Ariah Park Hardware Award went to Taylor Heath, who had his best game for the year and got plenty of kicks, The Jets socks, sponsored by The Mirrool Hotel, went to Josh Cameron whole played the whole game on the ball, received many possessions and was a tackling machine. We had seven different goal kickers, Charlie McCormack 5, Jack Hawthorne 3, Nate Doyle, Brady Edis, Josh Bell, & Alex Harper with 2 each and Will O Hare 1. Thanks to Alex Harper for playing over the years, as he is off to boarding school. All the best to Charlie McCormack who has been selected to represent State in Darwin next week. Well done boys. Final Score: Jets defeated Coleambally Jets Vs Leeton Whitton Coleambally Under 15 s The Northern Jets Under 15s took on the undefeated Leeton Whitton Crows in Coleambally on Saturday morning. It was an early start for the boys being a gala day and they were greeted by cool greasy conditions which they quickly adapted to having the better of the first quarter but couldn't find the goals with some inaccurate kicking

9 seeing them boot 3 straight behinds to the Crows solitary goal. The 2nd quarter was a highlight for the Jets with their attack on the footy and pressure around the ball great to watch. Half time scores were the Crows to the Jets The 3rd quarter was the difference in the end with Leeton kicking 3 unanswered goals at the end of the term to pull away to a 31 to 9 3 quarter time score. The last quarter was more evenly contested but the result was never in doubt with the Crows adding another 2 goals to the Jets 1. Final scores were Leeton Whitton to the Northern Jets Brodie Jones and Josh Roscarel were the goalkickers. Award winners in a fine team performance were Sam Glasgow who rucked well and was also prominent around the ground winning the $10 Bryce Spreading award. Luke Cameron had a great game on the wing gaining numerous possessions to win the other $10 Bryce Spreading award. Riley Walker had his best game for the season to win the $10 coaches award and Sullivan Walker who tried hard all game and continues to improve won the Jets socks, sponsored by Ardlethan /Ariah Park Supermarket. Others to play well were Ben Grinter, Nick Fairman, Josh Roscarel and Blair McLean. Final Score: Jets defeated Leeton Whitton Round 15 Netball reports Jets v Coleambally Under 11 s Teal Jets under 11's Teal played their second game against Coleambally at Coleambally on Saturday. The girls played well and were even at half time. In the third quarter Coleambally got ahead and was able to maintain the lead until the final siren, winning 12 to 9. Lucy Edis won the Ariah Park Bowling Club $10 award, running the whole game, making great position in goal attack and scoring a couple of very long goals. Jenny Webb also had a good game staying on her player and causing some important turnovers and Jenny received the Beckom Hotel $5 canteen award. Under 11 s White After a very early morning start the girls played Coleambally at Coleambally. The girls played a determined game and utilised all players in a truly team game. The end result saw the Jets win 19 to 9. The Beckom Hotel $5 Canteen Award went to Bethany Webb for a great defensive game and the $10 Bowling Club Award went to Sophie Maxwell for her consistent effort overall the court. Under 13 s The U13s played a solid game on Saturday to defeat Coleambally The girls displayed some good passages of play with free flowing passes moving the ball up and down the court. Defence was strong, limiting shooting opportunities for Coleambally. Our shooters were receiving good ball from our attack and made the most of shooting opportunities, with great success. Isabelle Gaynor received the canteen award for her great court cover, Paige Brown received the $10 award for her movement around the circle and effective reading of play. Under 15 s Coleambally were on the back foot from the very first whistle when they met the Jets Under 15 s for the second time. With a 15 goal victory the last time they met, Colly severely underestimated the spirit and determination of the Jettas and unexpectedly had to play a strong game to counter the strength that our girls were playing with.

10 With countless turnovers at our defensive end, Hayley Buerckner and Georgie Quade were unstoppable and did not give the Colly shooters an inch in the circle. At the other end of the court, Lily Walker and Abbey Doyle made the most of their opportunities to keep the scores close. While they lost some of their intensity and momentum in the second quarter, they finished the last half of the game strongly and clawed back Colly s 5 goal lead at half time to overtake them. Again the centre court players provided vital opportunities and Josie Gaynor, Katie Doyle and Erin Brown were invaluable in retaining possession and taking advantage of the many turnovers to get the ball to their attacking end. Hannah O Dwyer s turn in defence saw her pressuring her opponent and winning some turnovers. Unfortunately Colly also fought equally hard and were able to regain their lead, ultimately winning the game 25 to 22. Testament to the strength and ability of the Jettas was the fact that the largest score difference in the game was only 5 goals, which was a great showing of their ability to match it with the top teams. Awards this week went to Hayley Buerckner (Ariah park Bowling Club $10) and Katie Doyle (Beckom Hotel $5 canteen award). Thank you to Ellie Walker for umpiring.
