The fishing equipment in general to catch a shark and ray is longline, gill nets, etc. Shark fisheries in Indonesia has been going for long time, whereas management of sharks has actually been started since In that periode, the catch of shark recorded by Indonesian Statistic was included in demersal species, although some of species has habitat in surface waters (pelagic).
5 The types of sharks and rays in Indonesia consists of more than 200 species and some of the commercial catches The scientific result showed that shark species in the Indian Ocean are 86 species of 21 families and 55 types of rays (Dharmadi et al, 2009). The main issues of the management of shark fisheries in Indonesia is limited data and information. Indonesia has prepared a draft guideline for NPOA Shark.

26 VI. Problems on identifying sharks and rays in Indonesia and suggestion for improvement.
27 1. Only 6 Species of Sharks and 5 Species of Rays that Published by Capture Fishery Statistics of Indonesia. 2. The catch documenting of shark is not optimal due to insufficent knowledge for enumerators in identifying species of shark, so the available data are less accurate. 3. Difficulty to monitor loading and unloading activity of shark since the time is uncertained and the catch is not landed in centre landing. 4. Difficulty to identify shark that landed not whole shark.
28 Improving accuracy data. Market control. Public information campaign. Prohibition catching for red list IUCN of Shark.
