2 SHILAP Revta. lepid., 43 (170), junio 2015: eissn: ISSN: New record Genus Alciphanes Meyrick, 1925 from China, with description of one new species (Lepidoptera: Lecithoceridae) S. R. Liu & S. X. Wang Abstract The genus Alciphanes Meyrick, 1925 is recorded for the first time in China. One new species, A. flavifasciaria Liu & Wang, sp. n., is described based on specimens collected from Guangxi. Three new combinations are proposed: A. bathroptila (Meyrick, 1929) comb. n., A. holocona (Meyrick, 1908) comb. n. and A. rhizophora (Meyrick, 1919) comb. n. Images of adult and genitalia of the new species are provided, along with a list of all the known species of the genus. KEY WORDS: Lepidoptera, Lecithoceridae, Alciphanes, new species, China. Se proponen tres nuevas combinaciones: A. bathroptila (Meyrick, 1929) comb. n., A. holocona (Meyrick, 1908) comb. n. and A. rhizophora (Meyrick, 1919) comb. n. Se proporcionan imágenes del adulto y la genitalia de la nueva especie, al igual que una lista de todas las especies conocidas del género. PALABRAS CLAVE: Lepidoptera, Lecithoceridae, Alciphanes, nueva especie, China. Introduction Alciphanes is a relatively small genus of the subfamily Lecithoceridae, with six described species before this study. It was established by Meyrick in 1925 for the type species Tingentera molybdantha Meyrick, GOZMÁNY (1978) regarded Heteralcis Meyrick, 1925 as a synonym of Alciphanes Meyrick. PARK & WU (1999) transferred four species that were originally placed in Heteralcis to Alciphanes, and WU & PARK (2001) further described one new species from Japan. Alciphanes is characterized by the male labial palpus usually having hair-pencils beneath or above the second and third segments, the lanceolate forewing with vein R 5 reaching costa, the hindwing with a long hair-pencil or a row of short setae usually extending from base to middle below the lower margin of the cell, and the abdominal terga having zones of spiniform setae. This paper newly records Alciphanes from China, describes one new species and transfers three species from Heteralcis to Alciphanes based on the study of the Chinese material. The examined specimens are deposited in the Insect Collection, College of Life Sciences, Nankai University, Tianjin, China. 229

Type species: Timyra teraclina Meyrick, Type Locality: Ceylon. Synonymized by Gozmány (1978). Alciphanes flavifasciaria Liu & Wang sp. n. (Figs.1-4) Materials examined: Holotype 1, China: Mt. Daming (23º 24 N, 108º 28 E), Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, 1250 m, 28-V-2011, coll. Lin-lin Yang and Ying-hui Mou, genitalia slide No. LSR Paratypes: 15 11, 5 00, Mt. Daming (23º 24 N, 108º 28 E), Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, 1250 m, V-2011, coll. Lin-lin Yang and Ying-hui Mou. Description: Adult (Fig. 1): Wingspan mm. Head pale grayish white, scattered with pale yellow scales. Antenna pale yellow, flagellum with yellowish brown annulations dorsally. Labial palpus pale yellow; male second segment with appressed scales on basal 2/3, with hair-pencil on distal 1/3 dorsally, third segment a little longer than second, with hair-pencil dorsally; female third segment about as long as second. Thorax pale yellow; tegula with basal half orange yellow, distal half pale yellow. Forewing elongate, costal margin slightly arched, apex acute, termen extremely oblique; ground color snow white, with scattered yellow scales; with four broad, well-developed orange yellow fasciae: basal fascia with a large yellow scale-tuft near ventral margin; second fascia extending from basal 1/3 to near middle of dorsum, its anterior 2/3 broad, posterior 1/3 narrowed, inner margin slightly concave medially, outer margin convex medially and oblique from posterior 2/3 to dorsum; third fascia extending from costal 2/3 to end of dorsum, both inner and outer margins sinuate, outer margin deeply concave in a narrow V shape medially; fourth fascia elongate triangular, from apex along termen to meet second fascia on dorsum; cilia orange yellow, tinged with pale gray ventro-distally; venation: R 3 remote from R 4+5, R 5 to costa; M 1, M 2 and M 3 separated from each other; CuA 1 remote from CuA 2. Hindwing yellowish white, with a pale yellow scale-tuft at base, with a row of short yellow pencil-hair from base to middle below lower margin of cell, then arched across distal 1/3 of CuA 1 and CuA 2 to distal 1/4 of M 3 and distal 1/5 of M 2, and finally to end of M 1 ; cilia yellowish white; venation: M 1, M 2 and M 3 separated from each other, Rs and M 1 2/3 stalked, M 1 to apex, M 3 and CuA 1 short-stalked. Fore legs yellowish brown, except femur yellow; mid legs white, except tibia yellow on outer surface, tarsi scattered with yellow and brown scales; hind legs white, tarsi covered with long yellowish white scales, black at apex. Male genitalia (Fig. 3): Uncus lobe nearly semicircular, caudal margin concave medially. Gnathos with basal 4/5 nearly parallel, distal 1/5 conspicuously curved, tapering to apex. Costal bridge with inner margin straight, outer margin slightly arched. Valva with basal 2/3 broad, distal 1/3 slightly narrower, apex broadly rounded. Sacculus about 3/4 length of valva, basal 2/5 narrow, then gradually widened from 2/5 to distal 1/5, distal 1/4 with long setae and spiculate thorns. Juxta shield-shaped, anterior margin slightly protruded; caudal margin broadly concave medially, postero-lateral lobes narrow strip-shaped, curved. Vinculum U-shaped. Aedeagus nearly as long as valva; two cornuti: one acerate thorn, from base to 3/5, another sclerotized leaf-shaped plate, from beyond 3/5 to distal 1/5. Female genitalia (Fig. 4): Apophyses posteriores about twice length of apophyses anteriores. Antrum weakly sclerotized. Ductus bursae with basal 2/3 heavily sclerotized, distal 1/3 slightly sclerotized, its inside with numerous small teeth; ductus seminalis arising from distal 1/3 of corpus bursae, slender. Corpus bursae irregularly elliptical, bent backwardly, about twice width and 1/3 length of ductus bursae; signum placed medially, with several unequally sized teeth; accessory sac irregular in shape, arising from middle of corpus bursae. Diagnosis: This species is similar to A. bathroptila (Meyrick, 1929) in the male genitalia. The new species can be distinguished by the sacculus with long setae and spiculate thorns on the distal 1/4, and the juxta with strip-shaped postero-lateral lobes narrowly curved in the male genitalia.
