20 Summary of Key Observations Fully integrated, year round operations Some companies have adopted a red (farmed salmon) & white (groundfish) strategy Plants process both dried/salted and fresh/frozen (cod) Brine injection used in salt fish production Approx. 34% of employees in fish processing industry are foreigners Plants have high level of automation (e.g. robotics, portioning) Focus on innovation, science & technology, and well-being of employees Processors take care of their by-products which are sold for food and pharmaceutical use
