2 The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Charlotte Chapter is proud to present the 13th Annual Rosebuds Golf Tournament, a day of exciting golf and an evening awards ceremony complete with dinner and charitable giving. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a chronic and fatal genetic disease affecting approximately 30,000 children and young adults in the United States. CF substantially impairs respiratory and digestive functions, making the simple acts of breathing and eating a challenge. Many people with the disease can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s and beyond. However, there is no cure. As children suffering from cystic fibrosis grow older, they become more vulnerable to life threatening lung infections. We need your support to help fund the research necessary to find a cure and provide hope to the thousands of patients struggling with CF. Golfers arrive in the morning for coffee, continental breakfast and a few practice shots. Once the shotgun scramble begins, there will be fun contests, on-course beverages and boxed lunches. We will end the day with the awards ceremony, dinner and amazing live and silent auctions. A dedicated committee of SABIC volunteers coordinate this tournament in memory of Emily Clark. Emily was a happy, compassionate and talented eleven-year-old whose life was cut short by cystic fibrosis on October 20, She was the joy of the Clark family, their rosebud, who was denied the right to bloom. This event is held in her memory. Please join us as we take a shot at a cure for cystic fibrosis on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at NorthStone Country Club. The mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is to cure cystic fibrosis and to provide all people with the disease the opportunity to lead full, productive lives by funding research and drug development, promoting individualized treatment, and ensuring access to high-quality, specialized care. Through unique fundraising events like the Rosebuds Golf Tournament, we can give children and adults with CF the quality of life and future they deserve. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has unrestricted financial reserves of about 13 times its budgeted annual expenses, following a one-time royalty sale in These funds, along with the public s continuing support, are needed to help accelerate our efforts to pursue a lifelong cure for this fatal disease, develop lifesaving new therapies and help all people with CF live full, productive lives. Important Note on Attendance at Foundation Events: To reduce the risk of getting and spreading germs at CF Foundation-sponsored events, we ask that everyone follow basic best practices by regularly cleaning your hands with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand gel, covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue or your inner elbow and maintaining a safe 6-foot distance from anyone with a cold or infection. Drew Allen, Age 13 Charlotte, NC Medical evidence shows that germs may spread among people with CF through direct and indirect contact as well as through droplets that travel short distances when a person coughs or sneezes. These germs can lead to worsening symptoms and speed decline in lung function. To further help reduce the risk of cross-infection, the Foundation s attendance policy recommends inviting only one person with CF to attend the indoor portion of a Foundation-sponsored event at a specific time. For the outdoor portion, the Foundation recommends that all people with CF maintain a safe 6-foot distance from each other at all times.
