3 1. Competition Competition shall be played in accordance with the Rules of Golf adopted by the Royal Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and the United States Golf Association together with such Local Rules as may be approved by the Match Committee. Members must be financial and hold a current handicap to be eligible to play in any competition. If the forecasted temperature is 36C or more the competition will be played as a 9 hole competition. If a major competition is reduced to 9 holes it will be postponed to a later date. 2. Match Committee The Match Committee may in the event of insufficient entries, bad weather or for any other reason shorten or postpone any competition, or recommend to the Executive Committee the abandonment of such competition. 3. Major Events All major events must comprise of 8 (eight) players, and are played from the blue dome markers. a. A member must be a fully financial member for three (3) months and hold a current handicap to be eligible to play for the following events: Club Championships Monthly Medal President's Trophy Captain's Trophy Stableford Aggregate b. All major events if tied continue as for Monthly Medal. (Refer to Condition 5.) In competitions played over more than one round, when the handicap of each player shall be the handicap played from in the final round of the competition. 4. Club Championships a. The Club Championship is a 54 hole Stroke Event run over three (3) consecutive playing weeks. The first two (2) rounds are to be played in handicap order and the third (3) round is to be played in score order. Conditions of Competition Page 3

4 b. The player with the best Gross Score, irrespective of Grade, will be the Club Champion. If tied the competition is to continue as for the Monthly Medal. (Refer to Condition 5). c. There are only two Divisions for the Club Championship. These divisions will be decided after entries have been completed. If tied the competition is to continue as for the Monthly Medal. (Refer to Section 5). Division 2 Minor Champion Must have six (6) eligible players in the first round. d. The player with the best nett score overall (no grades) will be the Nett Champion. The Gross winner is not eligible to win the Nett Event. 5. Monthly Medal This is a Handicap Event which is to be played over 18 holes of Stroke Play on the first Tuesday of each month, unless otherwise stipulated by Match Committee. In the event of a tie a play-off is to be held over18 holes on a day mutually agreed upon by the players concerned and the Club Match Committee. The rule is to apply until a result is achieved using the original handicap. a. Star Bars are given when a member has won more than one (1) medal. If a member has won one or more medals before her new Blue Medal, these are also added together and a Bar is given according to how many medals have been won. e.g. two old and one new medal equals three medals, therefore the member receives a bar with two stars. 6. Medal of Medallists a. A member who has won one (1) or more Medals throughout the year is eligible. b. The competition for Medal of Medalists is to be played over 18 holes of Stroke Play. c. In the event of a tie there is to be a play off as for the Monthly Medal. (Refer to Condition 5). Conditions of Competition Page 4

5 7. President and Captain Trophies To be played over two (2) rounds of Stableford. Trophies are to be awarded for the best combined score. If tied to continue as for the Monthly Medal. (Refer to Condition 5). 8. Stableford Aggregate Competition played over four (4) Stableford rounds, with the best three (3) rounds aggregate score the winner. In the event of a tie there is to be a play off as for the Monthly Medal. (Refer to Condition 5). 9. Daily 18 Hole Competition a) The Daily 18 Hole Competition and Minor Events must have 6 (six) players listed to play. If more than one division there must be six (6) players per each division. b) A member must be fully financial and hold a current Handicap to be eligible to win a Trophy. c) Ties are to be decided on a count back. d) Members must play within the stipulated time slots as set down by the Committee and at the discretion of the Captain. Tuesdays - 8am. 10. Daily 9 Hole Competition a) The Daily 9 Hole Competition must have three (3) players listed to play. b) A member must be fully financial and hold a current handicap to be eligible to win a trophy. c) Ties are to be decided on a count back. d) Members must play within the stipulated time slots as set down by the Committee. 11. Ties Replay: In a replay for a nett event the original handicap shall be used, except in competitions played over more than one round, when the handicap of each player shall be the handicap played from in the final round of the competition. Count back: (not to be used for Monthly Medal). For an 18 hole nett event use the following procedure: Conditions of Competition Page 5

6 i) Use the last 9 holes and apply ½ handicap ii) If a tie continues use the last 6 holes and apply ⅓ handicap iii) If a tie continues use the last 3 holes and apply ⅙ handicap iv) If a tie continues commence from the 18 th hole and proceed hole by hole and apply 1 / 18 handicap 12. New Members A new fully paid up member will be eligible for daily trophies after receipt of a handicap. To obtain a handicap a member must be fully financial and have submitted the required three (3) full stroke cards. 13. Guest Days and Guest Players To be eligible to win trophies on Guest Days, all players must play within the allocated competition time (block booking). Guests may enter the daily competition. Trophies are to be awarded at the Captain s discretion. Please notify the person in charge if only attending the lunch. 14. Nearest the Pin The ball that is lying nearest to the flag, not necessarily on the green, but not in a bunker. A member with a N.C.R. (No card recorded) or a disqualified card is not eligible. 15. Longest Drive To be utilised at the Captain s discretion on certain competition days. The ball must be on the fairway. 16. Monthly Putting To be conducted only on Medal Days. (If a Stableford Medal, refer to Syllabus for Putting Day that month.) If tied will be awarded to all winners. 17. Putting Trophy Best five (5) rounds on Medal Days. (see above Section 20). If tied to be decided by best 3 scores. Conditions of Competition Page 6

7 18. Broken Handicaps When a member breaks her handicap for the first time in a club competition she will be presented with a Club Spoon. 19. Birdie Competition The person with the most Birdies for the year is the winner. 20. Gobbler Competition The person with the most Gobblers for the year is the winner. Conditions of Competition Page 7
