With the exception of our storytellers and the character of Joseph (who represents the 14,000 workers who built the great ship), everyone you meet during the program was an actual passenger, crewman, or staff member who sailed on Titanic's ill-fated maiden voyage. Their riveting recollections are drawn from historical accounts and sworn testimony. Welcome aboard! Ticket purchase includes: Salad, entrée, dessert, tea, & coffee. Cash bar available. 2 Egg Hunt with the Easter Bunny! Breakfast with the Easter Bunny Saturday, April 4 9 a.m. Egg hunt 10:30 a.m. $12++/person flowers will be blooming to provide the Easter Bunny with lots of places to hide eggs for the children. Make reservations early for Breakfast with the Easter Bunny. The Bounce House will return due to its great success from last year. The Easter Bunny will be available for pictures with the entire family. Reservations Required. Reservations required. AROUND THE CLUB A Note From Brian Despite the early forecast for an unseasonably cold winter, January and February brought us several days well above average. The result in January alone was 523 rounds of golf played versus 189 in Given the increase in golf traffic, now is the time to remind everyone of how important it is to follow established guidelines regarding keeping carts in the appropriate areas as much as possible. Last year we were required to replace sod around several greens that were damaged during the dormant months. While cold temperatures in general play a part in the damage, a clear pattern was observed from carts being driven right up to greens edges. Dormant grass does not have the ability to heal itself as it does during warm months. Driving carts over ground that was recently frozen and has since thawed compacts the soil more than usual, greatly increasing the likelihood that damage will be done to the dormant root system. As a result, we are forced to pay thousands of dollars to repair grass that may not be damaged if only commonly accepted rules and etiquette at every golf course in the country are followed. This article is to serve as my plea to you, the membership, to observe these policies. I hear so many positive comments from members and guests alike about the condition of our course. We can t control Mother Nature, but we can control 2 our actions to limit the damage of hers. Thank you in advance for your efforts in making and keeping Cross Creek successful. Our long tenured members will be able to recount a long list of improvements over the years, a much longer list than the space of this article will allow. Our newer members, however, may not be aware of how many of the nice things our golfers enjoy, have been paid for by their fellow members. 3 Thank You The Staff of Cross Creek would like to thank the membership for their generous contributions to the Salvation Army s Angel Tree Fund! Thank you for your generosity. Here is a short list just to name a few: The stone wall at the back of the driving range tee The large flower bed holding the ever-growing magnolia tree behind #6 green Tee markers, hole signs, and all yardage markers in the fairways The new cart path beside #2 tee box Grooming reels and greens rollers for our maintenance staff The shoe cleaner just outside the pro-shop door New tee box on 13 and walking bridges on 6 and 13 In 2015, the MGA and LGA are cooperating on a venture to install a new set of tees, forward of the current red tee markers. These will be called the granite tees, measuring approximately 4,400 yards for 18 holes. These will be a wonderful addition, making the course a bit easier and more enjoyable for super-seniors, juniors, beginning golfers of all ages, and most importantly, families. As a professional highly dedicated to growing junior golf in the Mount Airy area, I could not be more excited to see these tees put to use. Golf Course Maintenance With the majority of the winter season behind us we are experiencing longer days and occasional warmer temperatures. The combination of Core Aerification, Topdressing sand, and Fertilize is not only key to keeping a green true and managing a healthy thatch layer, it will also help our greens to establish a healthy root system to aid us through the hot summer days that lie ahead of us. Right after aerification we will make a fertilize application that will help give our bent grass a kick-start in growth this will help us get a quick heal up from the pulled core.
