SEPTEMBER will be an important month. According to rule 134 we should have had elections in August. However, I can give you a variety of excuses this did not happen. The reason is I got behind in my SIR work and forgot. Thus, we will have elections at our September meeting. Look for the nominating committee report in this newsletter and/or in a special announcement. Don t forget to invite one of your friends. You should be proud of the job your nominating committee did for you this year should be off to a great start with a wonderful slate of officers and board members. Our new adventure of a DATE NIGHT is off and running. Are any of you old enough to remember when you referred to your date as, my squeeze.? Mark the 3 rd Wednesday on your calendar, look for the announcement of the restaurant, get the okay from your significant other, call Manny for a reservation, take your date out for a great evening with fellow SIR#179 guys and gals. Try something new at the September meeting. Before the meeting starts, see if you can identify each person at your table by what they were doing before retirement. Say, Hi Harold, am I correct in saying you were a professional gambler? If you don t like that, try saying, Harold, I am curious, what were you doing for your career prior to retirement? You may be surprised at what you can learn when you ask a SIR, What did you do before you retired? Please take just a few seconds of your time to say hello to new members. He played major league baseball as a pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds in the 60s and the California Angels in He was one of the hardest-throwing pitchers of his era. Jim boasted a fastball clocked at 99 m.p.h., threw 2 no-hitters, and won 10 or more games each year from qcdto 1969 and struck out more than 200 batters for 4 consecutive seasons ( )
