4 2018 Rules and Regulations LEAGUE PLAY All league play will be held on Thursday afternoon at Grand Cypress Golf Club. The season will run from April thru September with the year-end banquet scheduled in September. To the best of our scheduling ability, weekly Courses and hole assignments will be announced 1 week prior. League play will begin on April 26 th. ELIGIBILTY Participation is open to all Universal Orlando, Golf Channel, Lowes, third party tenants and active vendors with valid UO credentials. Guests are eligible to participate, as long as the majority of the team is comprised of the above approved participants. TEAM COMPOSITION The league will consist of a minimum of four (4) and maximum of eight (8) players per team. Two members for each team compete in scheduled matches each week. FORMAT This season s format will be determined based on the number of teams competing. LEAGUE FEES A $30 per/player registration fee is required upon signup. This fee is used to fund administrative costs, banquet expense and awards. REGISTRATION Registration will be online at REGISTRATION DEADLINE Registration for the 2018 season will be done online at All participants must sign up online and sign the Code of Conduct form. Payments must be made to Team Member Services. Payment options include Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. Deadline for sign-up is 3/31/2018 SUBSTITUTION LIST If you do not have a team, we will place you on a team if possible. If all teams are maxed out with eight (8) players, you will be placed on our Substitution List. As a substitute, you are afforded all privileges and have the opportunity to play each week in our Fun Rounds while still competing in the Closest to the hole and Longest Putt competitions. WEEKLY SIGN-UP Weekly Match Registration: Team Captain or designate must register their team by 12pm each Wednesday by going to the Weekly Sign-Up tab online at and signing up under the current weeks match. Deadline for sign-up is 12:00 PM each Wednesday. Weekly Fun Round Registration: Each player not competing in the upcoming weeks match may sign-up for a Fun Round by going to the Weekly Sign-Up tab online at and signing up under the current Fun Round tab. 5 SUBSTITUTION Only qualified league members placed on the substitution list by Team Member Services may be employed as substitutes. Exceptions must be approved before the match is played. Any points won by an unapproved substitute including team stroke play points are forfeited to the opposing player(s) and team. NOTE: The use of substitutes for one or both members of a team is permitted, however, a member currently active on another team cannot substitute in another match without permission by Team Member Services. GREENS FEES Cost per 9 holes this season is $25 per week. This fee includes greens fees, carts, taxes, practice balls before the round and weekly prize for Closest to the Pin and Longest Putt. Special Food and Beverage services will be provided. Everyone who plays each week is eligible for the Closest to the Pin and Longest Putt contest. TEE TIMES The tee time for 2018 season is 4:40pm; please be in or around the cart area by 4:30 pm. Tardiness will not be tolerated and the League will start on-time. TEES To help golfers have more fun on the course and enhance their overall experience by playing from a set of tees best suited to their abilities, we have decided to incorporate TEE IT FORWARD to this year s league. TEE IT FORWARD encourages all golfers to play the course at a length that is aligned with their average driving distance and we feel that program may speed up play by utilizing tees that provide the greatest playability and enjoyment to each player. RAIN-OUTS League will be played each Thursday evening unless the golf course is closed. In the event of such an occurrence Team Member Services will update the website ( by 4pm on the day of the event. Light rain will not prevent the league from playing and you should check the website prior to each round. Prior to or during a match, should there be sufficient rain, the league officers may call a rain-out at the course prior to the beginning of play. If rain occurs after league play has begun and play cannot continue, before leaving the facility, you must return to the clubhouse to receive official confirmation that play has been cancelled for the evening. Failure to do so will result in the forfeiture of your match in the event play resumes that evening. WEATHER SHORTENED MATCHES 1. Scores for all teams will count as long as all teams have completed five holes. 2. The handicap will be adjusted according to the number of holes completed in a match. (Example: If 5 holes were played in a match, the Adjusted Handicap = 5/9 x Handicap) PLAYOFFS The top 12 teams at the end of the regular season qualify to participate in the playoffs. In the event two teams end with the same record, the tie-breaker will be determined as follows: o Regular Season: (a) Winner of most recent head-to-head match, (b) winner of first handicap hole (evaluated from hardest to easiest hole until a winner is confirmed) o Playoffs: (a) Winner of first handicap hole (evaluated from hardest to easiest hole until a winner is confirmed), (b) three-hole shootout Whether on a team or individual, all players must post three (3) rounds in order to participate in the Playoffs. The playoff format is single elimination to determine an overall champion for the year. Awards for the top three teams will be presented at the year-end banquet. Page 5 of 9

7 LEAGUE RULES 1. The UO Golf League strictly follows the list of (10) USGA rules to be distributed on the first day of play. In the event that opponents in a match do not know a rule they must consult other members in their playing group. If the rule is not known in the group, then the opponents will consult and agree on a decision. The decision made between opponents on the course will stand as agreed upon, unless a player makes a claim on the course that he would like to present the ruling to the Rules Committee. Once a claim has been presented to the committee, the decision rendered by the Rules Committee will be final. If a claim was not made to an opponent on the course during the round in question and presented to the Rules Committee on that same night, the Committee will refuse to review the ruling and the ruling on the course will stand. 2. A player may not improve their lie or touch their ball at any time unless course conditions determined by a league officer warrant a modification to the rules for that day s round. The course condition must be stated to all teams before the first team tees off for that day s round. Players making their own modifications to the rules during a round at any time may face loss of all points and disqualification. 3. Each participant is allowed only 14 clubs in their bag during match play. Penalty for breach of rule is a one (1) stroke penalty for each hole the extra club is in the bag. 4. All hazards are in play and/or as defined by the home course rules. 5. Red/White stakes are treated as a one (1) stroke penalty. You are able to take the distance and take a one (1) stroke penalty and drop. 6. There is a stroke limit for the 2017 season, Double Bogey max. 7. Keep pace with the group ahead and always maintain a ready golf approach. 8. If a team loses a roster player, they may ask a member from the substitute list to join their team as a roster player as long as the balance of employees to non-employees is maintained. 9. All of the playoff rounds will include 4 players from each team. The first two will be a 9 hole format. The final round will be a 9 hole playoff played the following Thursday starting at the regular league time. All other Teams are welcome to play that afternoon as well for a fun round. 10. All rules and regulations relative to regular season play remain in effect for this round. 11. Only approved players with an equitable handicap from our substitute list will be allowed to be activated during playoffs. If no suitable alternate with like-handicap is available, the committee will then reach out to all active members who are not competing in playoffs with that meet the handicap criteria. 12. A player running late may join your round in progress however; you will be penalized with a double-bogie for each completed hole you have missed. 13. All players must have a signed online waiver on file with Universal Studios Orlando TM Services. All members of the league are expected to conduct themselves in a sportsmanship manner at all times, and conduct themselves according to the rules and etiquette of golf. Members who do not conduct themselves as such will be subject to loss of all points for that day s match, and possible expulsion from the league. 14. TMS will compute all scores, standings, and handicaps and any deviations to the results turned in by the teams. Any discrepancies and errors noted by TMS must be reported to the teams within a reasonable amount of time. Page 7 of 9

8 LOCAL RULES GOVERNING PLAY USGA rules shall govern play except as noted below and in instances where they are in conflict with local course rules. Match play takes precedence over stroke play, except that every member must hole out (i.e. no gimmes). Ball Substitution A ball may be substituted for another at any time in the fairway or on the green. Ball In Sand A ball resting in a footprint or gully from careless raking may be lifted, the area smoothed and the ball placed. Agreement must be obtained from either your opponent or his/her partner before you move the ball. Exception: a ball lying in its own depression (fried egg) may NOT be moved! Unintentional Hazards A ball lying in casual water, ground under repair, animal holes, or embedded in its own depression (except in a hazard), may be lifted without penalty and dropped outside of but as near as possible to the boundary of the unintentional hazard, but no nearer the hole. However, if an unintentional hazard lies within the confines of a real hazard, (e.g., casual water in a bunker) you may not drop outside the confines of a real hazard without incurring a penalty. Man Made Hazards or Obstructions Bridges, railings, roads, walkways, fences, bulkheads, sprinkler heads, pipes and other structures not part of the playing grounds are considered man made hazards. A ball may be moved without penalty, one club length away, but not nearer the hole, from any such objects if your swing or stance is impeded. You are not allowed line of flight relief. Fences used to define out-of-bounds are not considered man made obstructions and taking relief would incur a penalty, as applicable. Temporary or Flooded Greens When a temporary green is in use or a green is flooded, the players shall play until their ball is within 30 feet of the hole. Players may hole out or pick up their ball and add 2 strokes to their current score for that hole. Unplayable Lie A ball may be declared unplayable anywhere on a course, except in a water hazard. An unplayable ball may be moved two club lengths away, but not closer to the hole, or moved straight back in a line directly away from the hole as far as a player desires. If a ball is declared unplayable in a sand trap, the player shall be allowed to place the ball, but must remain within the confines of the sand trap. Ball In Water Hazard When a ball lies within the confines of an intentional water hazard, the player must determine the point where the ball last crossed the boundary of the hazard. The player then drops a ball within two club lengths of that point, but not closer to the hole, or moves straight back in line with that point and the hole as far as desired. Ball In Wooded Area If a ball strays into a wooded area, the player may: play a provisional ball from the original position or the tee drop as close as possible to where the ball last crossed the boundary of the wooded area Wooded areas are defined as the un-mowed, forest areas bordering fairways. 9 Out of Bounds If a ball strays out of bounds, the player may: play a provisional ball from the original position or the tee drop a ball within two club lengths of where the original ball crossed the fence or boundary Lost Ball If a ball is lost and not found within 2 minutes, the player may: play a provisional ball from the original position or the tee drop as close as possible to where the ball is presumed to be lost Wrong Ball If a player plays the wrong ball, except from a hazard, the ball shall be replaced and the player shall then play his/her ball. If a player plays the wrong ball from a hazard, the ball shall be replaced without penalty. Strokes Questions concerning the number of strokes that a player has taken should be resolved before the next hole is begun. Interpretation of Rules Rules disputes must be declared before any member of a match tees off on the next hole. Rules disputes should be turned over to the flight secretary, who will resolve it, if possible. If the flight secretary cannot resolve the dispute, the rules secretary will resolve it in accordance with the rules of this League and the USGA. Their decision will be final. Mistakes Some times (but not very often) flight secretaries and/or the software used to tabulate results make a mistake. Any mistake identified prior to the completion of a half season will be corrected and changes in point distributions corrected if applicable. However, once a half-season is completed, all point distributions stand. Changes may carry over to the second half-season (e.g., a change in handicap), but that will not affect the first half results. Page 9 of 9
