1 RED CAPS GOLF INC V MISSION STATEMENT OF RED CAPS GOLF INC Red Caps Golf Inc is to afford strong fellowship through friendly golf competition, and support to all members and their families as the need arises. To present a positive and friendly atmosphere on and off the golf course. 2 OBJECTIVES The following is a list of the objectives for Red Caps Golf Inc. 2.1 To abide by any rules applicable to the group, and ensure that all golf members are registered and financial. 2.2 To organize activities and meetings and engage in social and sporting activities for the benefit of both pre-retired and retired members. 2.3 Red Caps Golf Inc will be responsible for its own finances. The fee structure required to run the group is to be advised regularly and the amount will be set at the Committees discretion and payment is to be made by each member from 1 December onwards but no later than 31 st January each year, save for those who join after 1 August, when a prorata payment will be levied. 2.4 The group is to play by: THE RULES OF GOLF, as approved by The Royal & Ancient Golf Club, and Local Rules set out by Ringwood /Dorset Golf documents, or by Red Caps Golf Inc specified later in this document. Refer Appendix A. 1

2 2.5 To operate under the name: Red Caps Golf Inc. Club Colours are to be RED and WHITE. 2.6 To assist and work in a harmonious fashion with all staff appointed by the statutory municipal government to manage the course and other groups and businesses that operate from the shared recreational space. 2.7 To use the Ringwood/Dorset courses as our venues under direction from the managers of those courses. To play at other venues from time to time for some variety. 2.8 To provide general Golfer Liability Insurance to all members, where possible. 3 RULES 3.1 New players need to have obtained an age of 55 and have had previous golf experience. 3.2 All new players are on a probationary period to show their proficiency (keeping up with play) in all aspects of golf and their suitability for our group, (knowledge of rules, golf etiquette and spirit of the game). The Committee will decide acceptance or otherwise. 3.3 All new players will be given a Welcome Pack setting out conditions of acceptance and matters of interest. Refer Appendix B 3.4 The Committee will schedule events and trophies, at their discretion. 3.5 An Honour Board will be updated each year. 3.6 Fees and rule changes will be decided/ratified at the Annual General Meeting to be held during the first week of December each year. 3.7 All players are to act as the handicappers and they will be drawn from the 1 st group each golfing day. 3.8 The group must elect a President and positions deemed necessary at the Annual General Meeting. These include:- Club Captain, Treasurer, Membership Secretary, Statistician, Correspondent and Social Secretaries. 2

RULES OF ETIQUETTE 4.1 To be read in conjunction with the Ringwood /Dorset Golf Cards: 4.2 SLOW PLAY Groups should not be more than one hole in arrears; if it occurs call up or catch up. (Please stay behind the group in front not in front of the group behind). Each group Captain is the lowest handicapper who is responsible for overall conduct and pace of play. Play provisional balls for possible lost balls (Mandatory on all Par 3 s). Leave greens immediately after putting. Fill in cards at next tee or while waiting for another to hit. Shorter hitters are encouraged to hit first. Play ready golf - first on the tee should play and then mark card from previous hole. Only one practice swing recommended. In Stableford competition, once you cannot score, please pick up your ball. Always play your next shot before assisting others looking for their ball. Move quickly between shots but do not hurry your strokes. Buggies: - Should not be left to the front of greens, but close to exit to next tee. - Should be adjacent to White Tee markers when hitting off. - In play, should be adjacent to shot being played. 4.3 SAFETY The Committee has a duty of care to take all reasonable steps to provide all players with an environment that is safe and stress free. Shout loudly when calling FORE Ensure players are out of range before hitting. Maintenance staff have right of way and will indicate to group when to play. Any incident on course which may give rise to an insurance claim should be reported to course shop and Red Caps Golf Inc secretary for recording, such report to be signed and 3

4 witnessed. Note: Incident report form will be available from Ringwood Golf shop, or Red Caps Golf Inc secretary, upon request. All due diligence must be taken when playing from the wrong fairway. Oncoming golfers have the right of way. In the event of thunder/lightning a siren will sound; play must stop immediately and players return to clubhouse. All golfers use the courses at their own risk and are responsible for any damage caused by their golf ball. All Red Caps Golf Inc members are covered by a blanket policy organized by the Committee. 4.4 UNFAIR PLAY Do not talk, distract, stand behind or move while others are playing. Do not cast shadows over cup or other player s line, or walk or stand on players line. Markers have a responsibility to count partners shots. 4.5 MAINTENANCE Use sand buckets and fill in all holes/divots taken on the course, and flatten. Fix divot marks on all greens, both your own and others. (Unfixed divots take 3 months to restore naturally) Do not lean on putters on green. Do not walk on greens if ice is attached to shoes. All gardens are GUR and MUST NOT be played from. Rake bunkers after use and replace rake parallel with fairway, 2 feet inside bunker. Do not drop flagsticks onto greens. The Committee will nominate for a period of time Preferred Lies which will be through the green, for the purpose of protecting the course. A hand span is to be used as a measurement unless otherwise advised. 4.6 HEAT POLICY Should the forecast temperature at 9am on the morning of play be 37 degrees or more, the competition for that day will be cancelled. If the day in question is one of our signature days, the event will be rescheduled. 4

5 5 TROPHY EVENTS While individuals may elect to play they do so at their own risk, they will not be under the Red Caps Golf Inc program. 5.1 COMMITTEE STABLEFORD TROPHY 1 Stableford event based on your current handicap using the Stableford Index 2 To be played monthly on a Monday, from December to November. 3 A minimum of 6 players is required for the event to be staged. 4 Stableford points are to be aggregated over the year to determine the winner. 5 Each players eight best scoring rounds will be used towards their yearly total. 6 A plaque or trophy will be awarded to the monthly winner. 7 The yearly winner will receive a trophy and have their name/s (in the event of a tie) recorded on our Honour Board. 5.2 CAPTAINS TROPHY 1 Handicap event, based on your current handicap. 2 To be played monthly on a Wednesday, December to November. 3 A minimum of 6 players is required for the event to be staged. 4 Each player s eight best scoring rounds (Nett) will be used towards their yearly total, the person with the lowest total will be the winner. 5 Each month a plaque or trophy will be awarded to the winner. 6 The yearly winner will receive a trophy and have their name/s (in the event of a tie) recorded on our Honour Board. 5.3 PRESIDENTS CUP 1 Handicap event, based on your current handicap. 2 To be played monthly on a Friday, December to November. 5

6 3 A minimum of 6 players is required for the event to be staged. 4 Each player s eight best scoring rounds (Nett) will be used towards their total, the person with the lowest total will be the winner 5 A plaque or trophy will be awarded to the monthly winner. 6 The yearly winner will receive a trophy and have their name/s (in the event of a tie) recorded on our Honour Board. 5.4 ECLECTIC AWARD 1 To be calculated on every hole (front nine and back nine) played in the December- November golf year. 2 Player s lowest score for each hole in the year less their average handicap. 3 Each player s average handicap is based on the last day of each month from the handicap sheet. 4 A minimum of six players is required on our golfing days for calculations to be included. 5 The yearly winners will receive a trophy and have their name recorded on our Honour Board. One winner will be declared for each of the front nine and the back nine. 5.5 MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP 1 Handicaps will be applied as at the 31 st July each year. 2 The Stableford index will be used throughout the competition for handicapping purposes. 3 Round 1 will be scheduled for the 1 st week in September with the final to be played by the last playing day in November. 4 Completion dates will be set for each round. A forfeit will be given against the player unable to meet the deadlines. 5 If we have in excess of 32 nominated players the highest handicapped players will form the first round to reduce numbers to 32. This round is to be termed the Qualifying Round. 6

7 6 There is no provision for an odd number to play, so as a consequence, the highest handicapper will be eliminated from the draw. 7 Once the final 32 players have been formulated, players are to be seeded 1 to 32. In the event of two players having the same handicap, the player who has played the most games to that point will be seeded higher. 8 If matches are all square after 9 holes the players will return and play the 9 th hole again and form a group of 6. This format will continue until our last group has reached the 9 th tee. If in the event there is still no result we will consult with the pro shop for our next course of action. We may need to return another day if time permits or we may need to have a Putt Off on the practice putting green. A Putt Off will consist off the least amount of strokes taken in a Sudden Death format from a minimum of 25 feet. To be repeated until there is a winner. Grand Finals must be completed on that day. 9 All players are required to read Rule 2 Match Play. Match Play contest will not allow players to be in another event on the same day. 10 The yearly winner will receive a trophy and have their name recorded on our Honour Board. 5.6 CLUB CHAMPION 1 Stroke play event (Gross score) 2 To be played over a two month period on 3 allocated days on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday, in April or May. 3 The final day being the Friday the BACK NINE will be played. 4 A minimum of 6 players is required for the event to be staged. 5 The winner will receive a trophy and have their name recorded on our Honour Board. 7

8 6 COMMITTEE JOB DESCRIPTIONS 6.1 PRESIDENT 1 The primary role of the President is to monitor the health, happiness and general wellbeing of all members within the group. Other roles are as follows: 2 To liaise with Management of the Ringwood Golf to arrange tee off times which are outside our normal times of Summer Months (October to March) 8.08 am and Winter Months (April to September) 8.32 am. Ladies pennant and other factors may come into play. 3 To attend User Group Meetings twice yearly with Management of the golf course. 4 To arrange and provide a program of events to each member of the group. 5 To organize/ conduct annual general meeting in December and call other meetings as required. 6 To obtain prizes for all golfing days. 7 To issue welcome packs to any new members setting out the guidelines for their acceptance. 8 To maintain the integrity and philosophy of the group and if necessary provide discipline when required. 6.2 CLUB CAPTAIN 1 To act as a figurehead for all matters relating to golf and as required, 2 Select teams and organize events against other organizations, 3 Assist with arranging other venues to be played, 4 Joint responsibility for the results, announcements and rules, 5 Raise the profile of the Club with all people and groups associated at Ringwood Golf, 6 Be approachable and available and follow through with any Member queries. 8

9 6.3 SOCIAL ORGANISOR(S) 1 The foremost objective is to arrange any social function as appropriate. The major event is our presentation night held in December. 2 This role undertakes to organize daily outings to other courses (2/3 times per year) and also for overnight stays if applicable. 6.4 SECRETARY 1 To ensure that all aspects of the Clubs activities are performed as per rules and regulations in force at the time. 2 To record and ensure that the Clubs legal responsibilities are met with all relevant authorities. 3 To operate and control the Clubs website. 4 Take minutes of any meetings held by the group as required. 6.5 TREASURER To be accountable for all monies collected and disbursed and provide a statement of income and expenditure at the annual general meeting. 6.6 CORRESPONDENT 1 Provide a monthly or summary of activities for addition to the Clubs website, and hard copies to members without computers. 2 Liaise with all Committee members to obtain information to complete this task. 3 Liaise with Secretary to determine most suitable technology for information provision and distribution. 6.7 STATISTICIAN 1 To record and maintain, all scores of each round for each golfer, throughout the year, and submit for posting to the website. 2 To keep accurate records, for each of our trophy events during the year. 9

10 7 OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES - GAME DAY CONTROLLERS The day controllers (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) will liaise with the Pro Shop to confirm our time slot and then have the responsibility to organize playing groups and ensure they are ready to play when called. 11 APPENDIX A. COMMON RULE CLARIFICATIONS TO BE USED BY ALL RED CAPS GOLF INC MEMBERS. If not previously mentioned in the RULES OF GOLF from the Royal & Ancient Golf Club or the Local Rules of Ringwood/Dorset Golf these rules below will apply to all of our events: 1 Immovable Obstructions Including: Roads & Paths, Corral Fencing, Fixed Sprinklers, Sheds, Tap Covers, Tee Signs, Drains etc. Relief: You can drop without penalty, ONE Club Length, not nearer the hole and at the nearest point of relief. Refer Rule Gardens (Ball located or lost in garden) Relief: You can drop without penalty, ONE Club Length- LOCAL RULE to apply. If the ball is lost, to claim this relief, the marker or playing partners must have seen, or be sure, that ball has entered the garden bed. 3 Lost Ball: (If lost in PLAY) Penalty of One Stroke applies and distance if you go back and hit from the same spot. Red Caps Golf Rule allows a ball to be dropped at point where marker deems the ball was lost, penalty 2 strokes. Exception to this rule is, if it is known or there is no other explanation that your ball is played by persons unknown, marker will allow a drop without penalty. Red Caps Golf rule. 4 GUR: Ground Under Repair - Defined as any new work on the course, which can be marked by pegs, ropes or lines, or not. Relief: It is compulsory to take a TWO Club Length drop from GUR which will include Line of Play in some instances. TWO stroke penalty if you play from within GUR Local Rule. 5 OOB: Out of BOUNDS. Another ball is to be played from the same spot or a provisional ball if unsure it is OOB. Penalty is ONE Stroke plus distance. 11

12 Red Caps Golf Rule allows a ball to be dropped TWO Club Lengths from point of entry with a penalty of TWO shots. (This assists with the speed of play on a public course.) 6 Preferred Lies. Please refer to 4.5 Maintenance for this ruling. 7 Practice On any day of a Match play competition, a player may practice on the competition course, before a round. Before a round of stroke play a competitor MUST NOT practice on the competition course, or test the surface of a putting green by rolling a ball. Note:- The Committee may prohibit practice on any day of a Match play in its conditions of competition. 8 Concessional Handicaps. Players playing the Back Nine will be allowed concessional handicaps from their Front Nine handicap as per handicap adjustment chart in our meeting room. 9 Accidental movement of ball on putting green No Penalty is to apply when a player or outside agency (caddie, buggy, partner) accidentally causes the movement of his ball, whilst on the Putting Green. Rule 18.2 (a) is to be rewritten and added to the Rules of Golf. The Ball is to be replaced. Peter Denier President Red Caps Golf Inc. January

There are a number of matters I would like to draw your attention to:- 1. Green Fees are payable on the day at the Pro Shop to the Ringwood Golf Course. 2. Maroondah Leisure has a card facility that covers Green Fees. An Application is included in this pack or will be ed to you. 3. All Red Caps golfers must sign the enclosed Application Form and pay the Annual Subscription Fee (or pro-rata portion) which is set annually in December. 4. Included in this fee is automatic Public Liability Insurance which will cover you against damage done by your golf ball anywhere in Australia and other Countries. A Copy of the Policy is attached or will be ed to you. 5. New Members will be on two months probation to show their proficiency in all aspects of golf, and this will start from the time you lodge your Third Card for a handicap. 6. A program of events is included in this pack or will be ed to you. 7. We have Red Caps and Shirts available at cost price which are unique to our group. Please ask about these when you are ready. 8. A copy of our Rules and Regulations is attached or will be ed to you. Please read, to familiarize yourself with how the group operates and its principles. I am sure you will enjoy your golf and make many new friends along the way.
