Generally, the pitching wedge should be 1 /2" shorter than the #9 iron in your set. The gap wedge can be 1 /2" shorter than the pitching wedge, but can be made the same length as the pitching wedge, depending on the head weight of the gap wedge and the players personal preference. The sand wedge should be 1 /2" shorter than the pitching wedge. Regarding the 60º wedge, it can be the same length as the sand wedge, or 1 /4" to 1 /2" shorter, depending on the players preference and the head weight. Tip#2: It is very important to have the lie of wedges fit to the golfer. If the lie angle is not set properly and the toe is up at impact (lie angle too upright) the ball will be pulled to the left of the target. Conversely, if the toe is down at impact (lie angle too flat) the ball will be pushed to the right of the target. This toe up or toe down thing is one of the most important fitting variables in wedges because the greater the loft angle (all the wedges), the more offline a shot can be when the lie angle is not set properly for the golfer. It is very important to have the lie of wedges fit the golfer. Tip#3: If a golfer has special problems consistently getting out of the sand and/or hitting fat and thin shots when pitching and chipping or in general is just inconsistent, select a wider sole wedge.
