1 SALEM GOLF CLUB FROM TEA TO GREEN March 2017 President s Message: March 2017 It s great to have the Club back open. Hopefully the weather will cooperate so we can get some golf in. Toby has been working to get all the equipment ready so when he has his department staffed in April they can hit the ground running and have the course ready for opening day. Chef Jerry has several exciting new items on the menu. Come on out and give them a try. Also, don t forget the Queen of Hearts drawing on Thursdays. Jackpot is at least $ Tom has been in the Golf Shop and will have it ready to open very soon. We are accepting Friends & Family members again this year. This program looks to be successful as we expect several new members from the 2016 group. So, let s all try to bring someone in and introduce them to the Salem Golf Club. If we can continue to increase membership, we then provide for the long term financial health of our Club. It looks to be an exciting and fun year with all the events and golf we have scheduled. Thank you to all of our members who celebrated Valentine's Day here with their special someone Our Annual Easter Buffet will be held on Sunday, April 16, Come enjoy the Easter Holiday with friends and family. As always, the club is available to accommodate a number of events including, but not limited to, golf outings, organization/professional events, parties, weddings, receptions and a host of other events. Please keep the club in mind and recommend us to those who may be planning an upcoming event. The club is still in significant need of support from our members. 3 GOLF SHOP NEWS Tom Atchison - PGA Head Golf Professional Ryan Freeders - PGA Assistant Professional My first 2 years as your Golf Professional have gone by quickly and again, Cathy and I appreciate all your support in the Golf Shop with merchandise sales. We had good 2016 sales which exceeded our goal. We will continue to offer fresh merchandise with the newest trends at discounted prices. *** Special Orders - Drop Ship -- For our Members who spend the winters down south or out west, any golf product orders can be drop shipped to your winter home!!! Special pricing for golf ball orders. Many of the companies are offering discounted prices on early season orders on personalized and no personalized golf balls. 2-3 dozen minimums only. any requests to me - golfpro60@icloud.com. Corporate Logo products available (hats, balls, shirts, towels, etc) ****Golf Shop will open for the season Wednesday March 15. Ryan Freeders will return as my Assistant Professional. MARK YOUR CALENDARS Men's Opening Day Event - Sat May 13 ( 2 weeks later than past years. ) Ladies Association starts play - Tuesday May 9 Men's Tuesday Evening Scramble League begins - Tuesday May 9. We are looking to expand the sign ups and play on both nines. *** Great turnout last year 24 two man teams. Ladies First Hurrah Tuesday June 6 ( 3 weeks later than past years ) Men's Member Guest - Thurs-Sat, July Men's Weekender Events - NEW STRUCTURE last year went much better. Ryan and I have added a couple small changes to events and organization to improve the weekender events even more. TOM'S GOLF TIPS Chipping - For those members playing in Florida or heading on golf trips. SHORT TIGHT GRASS with sandy turf. Never try and scoop the ball up in the air. Let the loft of the club do the work. REMEMBER - when the club strikes downward at the ball, ball goes up. If club scoops upward at impact, ball goes down. Never help ball up. KEY - Let your hips rotate back and through impact. Keep weight slightly on left side and inside of right foot. Through impact, let your right hip and right knee rotate past impact area. (Try and get your right knee to catch and touch your left knee. )
