The weather is absolutely delightful with cooler temperatures and less humidity. Not only that, but it time to start thinking of all the upcoming holidays. My husband and I love Halloween and have actually hosted the occasional Halloween Party where we have, yes, actually asked our guests to dress in costume. We also love Thanksgiving as it is such a wonderful time to have all the family together again. And I love decorating for Christmas and all the holiday parties that go with the season. Speaking of which, be sure to mark Wednesday, December 9 on your calendars as that is the date of Act 2 s annual Holiday Party. It will again be held at Connie Atwell s home. Thanks Connie for once again hosting our favorite Act 2 event of the year. And just one more thing to be thinking about this fall: we continue to need volunteers for Act 2. Among some of the positions we need to fill for 2016 are a vice-president, a membership chairman, and hosts for 2016 Thirsty Thursdays. If you are interested in any of these positions, please feel free to call me or any of the current executive Board members. We would be happy to discuss any of these Act 2 positions with you. 2 B Our October reading is Breaking In: The Rise of Sonia Sotomayor and the Politics of Justice by Joan Biskupic and Carrington MacDuffie. On Monday, October the 26 th the book club will meet at the home of Patty Mattoon, 20 Shenecossett Lane, at 12:30. This book is scheduled to be released in paperback on October 13. Discussion Leader: Susie Roeder Refreshments: Jan Carey, Susan Newsome. In November we will make our book selections for next year s reading so come with list of suggestions. Also start collecting children books, age 3-5 years old, for donation at our Christmas Luncheon. BRIDGE LADIES BIMONTHLY BRIDGE I am very pleased to report that we are back on schedule and had had two tables of ladies to play both times we met in September. Unfortunately as you may remember, I crashed my computer and lost all my databases including the group of ladies who had expressed interest in Bridge. So if you know anyone who would love to play nonstressful bridge with no need to find a partner and the possibility of winning a dollar or two, come join us. Just make sure I have your information and I will add you to the list. Another great thing about this bridge group no long term commitment. We play on the 1 st and 3 rd Wednesday of each month and I send out an prior to each game asking who wants to play and then confirming who actually signed up. The rest is up to you you show up at 9:30 with a big smile and enjoy the company of some of the nicest ladies playing bridge in Pinehurst. We pride ourselves on being friendly and welcoming and this is a good place for fairly new or returning bridge players to start playing in public. No pressure allowed. This is where I made my debut into playing with real people not just classmates. Just send the names and addresses for anyone who might want to play with us and I will take it from there. Our October games are October 7 and 21 st. FOOD AND FRIENDSHIP Mark your calendar for October 30 when Motown and the Legacy return to Pinehurst. This has been of the most popular events for Act 2 members. Full details are not yet available but make sure you keep the date open.

3 Thirsty Thursday Thirsty Thursday will be at the home of Al and Betty Mangum, 5 Oakmont Circle, Pinehurst, on October 22nd, pm. Meet old and new friends while enjoying delicious appetizers, great conversations and your favorite drinks at their lovely home. Please bring an appetizer to serve 8-10, your beverage of choice (no red beverages please) and $1.00 per person for set-ups and mixes. E.talia is located on 290 W. Pennsylvania Ave, a two blocks away from Broad Street. Parking is on the street or behind the restaurant. They used to be located (as only a pizza restaurant, P.zza) on Pennsylvania near the Pilot offices- but a fire burned the place down. Their new location is prettier- there are separate rooms. And the menu is more extensive. They offer 16 different wood fired pizzas, from cheese (mozzarella) at $8.99; 4 cheese is $11.99, tomato summer classic is $12.99, also broccoli, cauliflower and white sauce pie is $ Other pizzas are more; chicken pesto or prosciutto, or NC $ A pie is so big; perhaps two could share, and maybe share a house salad for $5.99. They also have several artisan plates on the menu; such as meatballs for $6.99, gnocchi plate for $9.99, bruschetta at $9.99. One offering that was a hit for our group was rustic Italian chips ; like a flavored pizza dough at $3.99. When we were there, they offered a lunch special of meatballs, small salad and the Italian chips, which was delightful. The salads listed on the menu seem interesting. For instance, Arugula with goat cheese and apple vinaigrette at $11.99; the spinach salad had pancetta, and candied pecans at $12.99 to name the first two on the menu. ACTIVITIES AND GAMES MAH JONGG The Mah Jongg group meets in the Activities room at the Pinehurst Members Club every Monday from 12:30-4:00 pm. We are a friendly group and welcome all levels of play.
