CONTACTS: NIC HALLISEY (SID) / KURT MADDOX (STUDENT-ASSISTANT) (970) NIC.HALLISEY@COLOSTATE.EDU MOUNTAIN WEST CHAMPIONSHIP Colorado State will close the women s golf season at the 2017 Mountain West Championship in Rancho Mirage, Calif. The three-day tournament will feature nine MW teams, and will be played out over three 18-hole rounds, beginning Monday morning (rounds will begin at 8 a.m. MT each day). The tournament is held at Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club (par 72; 6,270 yardage). I think the big thing is to not get caught up that it s a conference championship, head coach Annie Young said. If we come with a better focus we ll play better; it s just little lapses that are hurting us. I d like to see us go out on a high note to finish the year. CSU s lineup will include Katrina Prendergast, Ellen Secor, Brianna Becker, Elisabeth Rau and Jessica Sloot. It s surprising to me that they haven t had that moment where they all put it together, so that s the hope for this week, Young said. All of the girls who have played this course have played very well at one time. Elisabeth had a top-10 here, Katrina played unbelievable last year, Bri has had good rounds We re trying to pull out the positives this week and help them remember those. San Diego State is the tournament favorite, according to its national GolfStat ranking (No. 30), followed by San José State (36), UNLV (43), Fresno State (70), Nevada (88), New Mexico (111), CSU (121), Wyoming (140) and Boise State (175). UNLV won last year s championship. It s a good conference, Young said. We have three teams that are going to make regionals, without question, based on rankings. If we finish in the top five, I think it s a good tournament. History shows, since it s been a nine-team field, that we haven t finished in the upper half. That has to change. HISTORY AT THE CHAMPIONSHIP CSU, New Mexico, San Diego State and Wyoming are the only teams to play in all 18 Championships. The Rams carded a 921 a year ago, improving two places from eighth in 2015 to sixth in Then a freshman, Katrina Prendergast finished runner-up at the 2016 Championship, posting the fourth-best score by a Rams golfer at the Championship. She is one of three Rams to finish first or second place in the tournament. As a freshman in 2014, Elisabeth Rau finished in 17th place with a 14-over 230. 2 third-place finishes in 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2005, and a second-place finish in In 2002, freshman Lynette Duran was the conference s individual champion, totaling a 3-over 216. DYNAMIC DUO Freshman Ellen Secor and sophomore Katrina Prendergast earned top-20 performances at the Dale McNamara Invitational (April 10-11), tying for 14th place. It marked the fourth time this season that at least two Rams have placed in the top 20 of a tournament, with each one featuring the duo. A sophomore and freshman are leading our team, and that s exciting for the future of this program, Young said. Those two are very talented players who will continue to get better. Prendergast jumped onto the scene a year ago as a freshman, setting a single-season school record for stroke average and finishing runner-up at the Mountain West Championship and qualifying for NCAA Regionals. As a sophomore, she has seven top-20 finishes (two top-10), including all five tournaments during the spring season. Secor has followed in Prendergast s footsteps as a successful freshman, finishing fifth as an individual at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic, her first collegiate competition. She followed that performance up with top-12 placing the next two tournaments, plus two 14th-place finishes this spring. Their season stroke averages of (Prendergast) and (Secor) are on pace to finish third and fourth, respectively, in school history. SENIOR SALUTES Two CSU golfers will play their final rounds for the Green & Gold. Elisabeth Rau has competed in 38 career tournaments over the past four seasons, holding a career stroke average of (seventh in CSU history). She carded a personal best of 69 at this year s Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, placing 11th out of 105 golfers. A year prior at the tournament she posted her best tournament score (214), while CSU set a team school record. Becker transferred to CSU after two seasons at Hawai`i. She has competed in 19 tournaments for the Rams, averaging strokes per round (fifth in CSU history). She has carded a 69 twice and posted an even-par 216 during CSU s school-record-setting performance at the 2015 Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. Earlier this year, she placed 12th at the Ron Moore Women s Intercollegiate. Rau is a three-time Academic All-Mountain West recipient while Becker earned the honor in her junior season, the first in the league. RAMS NOTEBOOK RECORD CHASERS Several CSU golfers are in the all-time record books for their performances in and throughout their careers: Brianna Becker career scoring average (on pace to finish 5th in CSU history) Katrina Prendergast 67 (Round 2, Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational); T-1st in singleround history (Prendergast now owns two of the four 67s in school history) 68 (Round 1, Ron Moore Women s Intercollegiate); T-6th in single-round history 7 top-20 finishes (T-2nd in single-season history, along with her total and three others) season stroke average (on pace to finish 3rd in singleseason history; would own two of top-three averages). Elisabeth Rau career scoring average (on pace to finish 7th in CSU history) Ellen Secor 68 (Round 2, Ptarmigan Ram Classic); T-6th in single-round history 5 top-20 performances (one more would tie for 6th in single-season history) season scoring average (on pace to finish 4th in single-season history) Team season scoring average (on pace to finish 7th in school history) 281 score during Round 3 of the Ron Moore Women s Intercollegiate (T-2nd in CSU single-round history) 875 score at the Ron Moore Women s Intercollegiate (6th in CSU tournament history). SUCCESS IN THE CLASSROOM CSU s women s golf team posted a team GPA of 3.78 this past fall, the highest among all CSU teams in Looking back further, four of CSU s six golfers from earned Mountain West Academic All-Conference honors for holding a cumulative grade-point average above 3.0, with three of them on the Rams roster. Additionally, Brianna Becker and CSU graduate Mikayla Tatman were named All-American Scholars by the Women s Golf Coaches Association. Dating back to 2004, at least one Rams golfer has been a recipient. GREB TO JOIN RAMS PROGRAM In November, prep star Haley Greb signed her National Letter of Intent to play for the Rams, beginning this fall. Greb, from Pendleton High School in Oregon, earned four all-state honors and won the 2016 Oregon Junior Amateur. I get sad thinking about Elisabeth leaving because she s done a lot for this program, Young said. Not just the golf, but the attitude she brings every day. If you had five Elisabeths on your team it d be quite the team. The competitiveness that Bri brings to the program is special. She never wants to lose anything. She s very hard on herself but she always wants to excel and be better. Not to mention the students and people these two are. If every player could be like these two, the university would be incredible. They re going to be missed. YOUNG APPOINTED TO NCAA COMMITTEE In September 2015, CSU head women s golf coach Annie Young was named to the NCAA Division I Women s Golf Committee. The four-year appointment extends through the academic year. As part of the committee, Young makes monthly conference calls, selects teams for regionals and evaluates potential rules changes, in addition to other tasks. During the spring, she traveled to regionals and the NCAA Championship, representing the NCAA.

Colorado State freshman golfer Ellen Secor earned a top-five finish at the Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic, carding a 1-under 215 in her first collegiate competition. Secor s score was impressive, but unfortunately for the Rams, she was competing as an individual and did not count toward the Rams score. If she did, it would have accounted for a 17-stroke difference and moved the Rams from 12th to eighth place in the standings. She stepped up great, head coach Annie Young said of Secor s performance. She proved that she belongs in the lineup, and the intensity she comes with is going to be a huge asset for us when she s in the lineup. Secor posted a team-best 2-over 74 on Tuesday, while sophomore Katrina Prendergast and senior Elisabeth Rau tallied 3-over 75s during Round 3. Overall, Prendergast was the Rams top scorer, finishing with a 14-over 230. Rau and junior Sarah Archuleta tallied 16-over 234s. After leading all CSU scoerers through two rounds, freshman Jessica Sloot tallied a 19-over 235 during Round 3, followed by sophomore Caroline Reiners 24-over 240. Senior Brianna Becker, also competing as an individual, had the Rams third-best score overall of 231 (15-over). We re going to be fine, but we need to take an honest assessment of where we re at and where we need to be, Young said. San José State senior My Leander (6-under 210) held off Gonzaga s Ciera Min for the individual title, helping the Spartans to a commanding victory. San José State (7-over 871) finished 14 strokes ahead of second-pace UC Irvine (21-over 885). Gonzaga finished third (25-over 889), followed by Oregon State (27-over 891), Nevada and San Francisco (28-over 892), Indiana (35-over 899), Northern Colorado (48-over 912), Portland State (49-over 913), Nebraska and Wyoming (50-over 914), CSU (57-over 921), Long Beach State (61-over 925), Hawai i (71-over 935) and Boise State (73-over 937) TOURNAMENT CAPSULES JULI INKSTER SPARTAN INVITATIONAL Sept San Jose, Calif. Colorado State had two top-20 finishers in the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational, as the Rams concluded their second tournament of the season in eighth place. Freshman Ellen Secor finished in a ninth-place tie her second top-10 performance in as many tournaments to begin her collegiate career while sophomore Katrina Prendergast tied for 18th. It marked the first time since Feb. 23, 2016 that a pair of CSU golfers finished a tournament ranked in the top 20. Secor was in a tie for third place entering Tuesday s final round, while Prendergast was tied for sixth after tying a school record with a 5-under 67 during Round 2, the best score in the field by any player in any round. During that round, Prendergast had nine of her 10 birdies, including a stretch of four in five holes. Seniors Elisabeth Rau and Brianna Becker each moved up 10 places during Round 3, carding the Rams best scores of the day. Rau posted a 3-over 75 to finish at 19-over 235, while Becker had a team-best 1-over 73, finishing at 20-over 236. Freshman Jessica Sloot finished with a 22-over 238. BYU (18-over 882) finished three strokes ahead of host San José State (21-over 885) to win the team title, followed by Colorado (29-over 893), Nevada (40-over 904), UC Irvine (41-over 905), Santa Clara and Gonzaga (44-over 908), CSU (49-over 913), Long Beach State (54-over 918), Cal Poly (55-over 919) and San Francisco (64-over 928). Colorado State shot its best round of golf of the season on Sunday, and coupled with an all-around team performance, finished fifth out of 18 teams at the Ron Moore Women s Intercollegiate. With three top-20 finishers, CSU carded a 7-under 281 during Round 3 to finish the three-day tournament at 11-over 875. The single-round score of 281 is tied for the third-best performance in school history, while the three-round score of 875 is sixth. They re really excited about today s play, head coach Annie Young said about her players. It s always fun when you shoot under par as a team, but everybody shot a low score today, which makes everyone feel like they contributed. It was a team effort. Katrina Prendergast tallied her first top-five finish of the season, shooting a 3-under 69 on Sunday to finish at 2-under 214. She tied for fourth, thanks to two under-par rounds, including a tournament-leading 4-under 68 during Round 1. Just three strokes behind Prendergast was senior Brianna Becker and freshman Ellen Secor. They both tallied 1-over 217s, tied for 12th out of 102 golfers. Secor had a 3-under 69 on Sunday, while Becker carded a 2-under 70. Becker was consistent throughout the weekend, shooting between 2-over and 2-under in each round. Secor had an even-par 72 in Round 1, and finished strong with the 3-under 69 after shooting a 4-over 76 during Round 2. Sarah Archuleta (1-over 73) and Elisabeth Rau (2-over 74) also had solid rounds on Sunday their best totals of the tournament. Competing as individuals, Caroline Reiners and Jessica Sloot also shot their best rounds of the tournament on the final day. CSU s Round-3 score of 281 was the second-best score of the entire tournament second only to Kentucky s 277, also during Round 3. After shooting a strong 292 during Round 1 and sitting in third place, the Rams struggled through Round 2 on Saturday, carding a 14-over 302. Yesterday wasn t our finest day, but what was great to see was how they bounced back, Young said. If we re going to compete for titles and top fives, we re all going to have to play well and show up and be ready to play. This week was a big step in the right direction for us. Pepperdine (10-under 854), which took a nine-stroke lead after one round of play on Friday, held on to defeat host Denver (6-under 858). Kentucky placed third (7-over 871), followed by Georgetown (10-over 874) one stroke ahead of CSU. Nebraska (12-over 876), Ole Miss (13-over 877), Long Beach State (17-over 881), Fresno State and Nevada (21-over 885), Delaware (26-over 890), UC Riverside (32-over 896), San Francisco (38-over 902), Wyoming and Northern Colorado (46-over 910), South Dakota (47-over 911), Arkansas Little Rock (61-over 925) and North Dakota State (64-over 928) finished behind the Rams.

We re playing average right now and are capable of playing a lot better. Baylor (25-under 551) won the tournament which was originally scheduled for three rounds before Monday s second round was canceled due to rain. Host UNLV (17-under 559) finished second, followed by Idaho (16-under 560), San Diego State and Texas (15-under 561), Vanderbilt (14-under 562), San José State (11-under 565), UC Riverside (7-under 569), Missouri (4-under 572), Fresno State (3-under 573), Indiana and Gonzaga (1-over 577), Nevada (2-over 578), CSU (3-over 579), Nebraska (6-over 582), New Mexico (7-over 583), New Mexico State (13-over 589), Long Beach State (17-over 593) and UC Irvine (18-over 594). The Rams, who participated in five fall tournaments, will next compete Feb at The Gold Rush in Long Beach, Calif. The consistency is not there right now, Young said, but I believe we have a lot of talent and can be successful this season. This break will give us a chance to rest, work on the little things and train so we re not as tired late in rounds. TRILOGY COLLEGIATE QUAD MATCHES Feb. 11 Gilbert, Ariz. The match play was a late addition to the spring schedule after a round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in November was rained out. CSU began the day with 18 holes against BYU. The Cougars were victorious over the Rams, 5-1, with freshman Ellen Secor earning CSU s lone point. She won her match, 2-and-1, while senior Elisabeth Rau battled back from an early deficit, once three down, to lose by one on the final hole. In the afternoon, Iowa narrowly defeated CSU, Rau (5-and-4) and freshman Jessica Sloot (5-and-4) both won their matches after 14 holes, while sophomore Katrina Prendergast tied her opponent, leaving the Rams a half-point short of evening up the score.

The Rams concluded the twoday tournament on Tuesday, finishing in eighth place out of 14 teams (48-over 912). The Rams sat in seventh place following Monday s action, which was suspended late in the second round due to rain and darkness. The competitors finished Round 2 on Tuesday morning before playing the final round. CSU shot 20-over in Round 3 (308), dropping one spot in the team standings. Today was a bit of a struggle overall, head coach Annie Young said. I thought we had a perfect opportunity to beat some teams that were ranked ahead of us. We weren t able to get it done, unfortunately, but there were some bright spots despite. Prendergast, who recorded her third top-20 finish of the season, was the Rams top performer in Round 3, carding a 3-over 75. Freshmen Ellen Secor and Jessica Sloot each posted 5-over 77s during Round 3. Secor was the Rams second-best performer, placing 25th, while Sloot moved up four spots on Tuesday to finish as CSU s third-best performer. Playing as an individual, junior Sarah Archuleta had her second-best single-round score of the year, carding a 3-over 75. On Monday, Prendergast shot even-par during Round 1, and after two rounds of play was tied for sixth place. The highlight of the day came from Secor, however, who recorded her firstever hole in one. Using an 8-iron on Hole 5, Secor sunk the Par-3 hole with the shot of her life. Young called CSU s performance on Monday a team effort, with the Rams also getting production from senior Brianna Becker, who shot a 3-over 75 during Round 1. Of the five Mountain West schools competing, CSU finished second. San José State won the team title with a final score of 869 (5-over). BYU finished runner-up (16-over 880), followed by Idaho (19-over 883), host Long Beach State (24-over 888), Gonzaga (28-over 892), Ole Miss (39-over 903), UC Irvine (43-over 907), CSU (48-over 912), Fresno State (51-over 915), Nevada (52-over 916), Santa Clara (53-over 917), Boise State (69-over 933), UC Riverside (75-over 939) and Montana (86-over 950) TOURNAMENT CAPSULES MEADOW CLUB WOMEN S INTERCOLLEGIATE March 6-7 Fairfax, Calif. Colorado State put up a strong performance Tuesday at the Meadow Club, shooting a 5-over 293 during the final round of the Meadow Club Women s Intercollegiate. All five Rams golfers posted their best rounds of the tournament, led by sophomore Katrina Prendergast (2-under 70), who finished tied for ninth place. Today was much better, head coach Annie Young said regarding the Rams improvement after struggling through the first two rounds on Monday. This is more of the team that I think we are, and the players voiced that after the round. We didn t have anything to lose, so we went out there with an attitude of attack. The late push allowed CSU to tie with San Francisco for 12th place. Entering the day, the Rams sat 22 strokes behind the Dons and 19 strokes behind the next-closest competitor. But despite a difficult first two rounds, the Rams third-round score was among the best in the field and just five strokes off the rounder leader. Prendergast moved up seven spots to earn a top-10 placing (tied for ninth out of 75 golfers). It marked her second top-10 performance of the season and fourth top-20 finish including her second in a row. Freshman Ellen Secor scored an even-par 72 during Round 3, moving up 15 places, while senior Elisabeth Rau was just two strokes over par (74), jumping six spots. Senior Brianna Becker and freshman Jessica Sloot finished the day at 5-over 77. Everyone stepped up and played the way they re capable of doing, Young said. I think they re as frustrated as I am that we haven t been getting it done, so today was a nice way to finish. San Diego State won the tournament with a 6-over 870, four spots ahead of BYU (10-over 874). Illinois finished third (17-over 881), followed by California (18-over 882), Michigan (24-over 888), San José State (27-over 891), Pepperdine (32-896), Coastal Carolina (33-over 897), Oregon State (38-over 902), UC Davis (46-over 910), Nevada (52-over 916) and CSU and San Francisco (58-over 922). More than half of the tournament field is ranked in this week s Golfstat top-50 national rankings. At times it seems like we re so far away, and then days like today show us that we can turn things around, Young said. I believe we can, and we ll have the chance to show that right away. Freshman Ellen Secor and sophomore Katrina Prendergast earned top-20 performances on Sunday, placing in 14th and 16th place, respectively, at the Mountain- View Collegiate Invitational. As a team, Colorado State played its best golf of the weekend on Sunday, shooting a 12-over 300 during Round 3. The Rams improved each round, finishing at 52-over 916 and in 12th place. This marks the third time this season that at least two Rams have placed in the top 20 of a tournament, with each one featuring Prendergast and Secor. On Sunday, Secor carded an even-par 72 during the final round, one of 20 golfers in the field to shoot par or better. For the weekend, she recorded a 3-over 219, including a 1-under 71 during the opening round. Prendergast was one stroke behind Secor, carding a 1-over 73 on the day and 4-over 220 for the weekend. She shot 73 twice and 74 once during the three-round tournament. She has finished in the top 20 for all three tournaments this spring. Senior Brianna Becker performed well on Sunday, shooting a 4-over 76 and finishing the weekend at 21-over 237. Senior Elisabeth Rau was a couple spots behind Becker, carding a 24-over 240. Junior Sarah Archuleta had her best round of the weekend on Sunday, finishing at 33-over 249. Colorado State golfer Katrina Prendergast recorded her fourth consecutive top-20 finish, placing tied for 14th out of 98 golfers at the Bryan National Collegiate. Prendergast now has six top-20 performances this year, including in all four spring tournaments. The standout sophomore was the lone bright spot for the Rams, who finished 16th out of 18 teams in the weekend tournament. Originally scheduled to open play on Friday, rain pushed back the opening round to Saturday. The Rams sat in 15th place after two rounds, before falling back one spot during Sunday s final round. She s doing a really good job, head coach Annie Young said of Prendergast. She seems to have control of her game and her emotions. If you ask her, she would say she didn t play as well as she would have liked in the fall, so this spring has been really good for her. She s been working really hard and this weekend she beat a lot of really good players. Prendergast carded a 1-over 73 on Sunday, moving up one spot from Saturday. She was consistent all weekend, recording a 2-over 74 in the opening round and a 2-under 70 during Round 2. She closed the weekend with a team-most 10 birdies. Behind Prendergast, however, the Rams struggled. Senior Brianna Becker had her best round of the tournament on Sunday (5-over 77), finishing at 20-over 236, along with freshman Ellen Secor. They tied for 76th place, ahead of senior Elisabeth Rau (24-over 240; T-84th) and Jessica Sloot (39-over 255; 93rd). It s been the same thing the whole year, Young said. It seems like we ll put up a big number here or we get on a string of bogeys. The scores weren t quite there this week, but there was better golf played. It seems like it hasn t come together yet. We have two tournament lets and we hope it will by then. No. 3 Alabama ran away with the title, finishing 13 strokes under par (851). Georgia was in second place (1-over 865), ahead of Baylor (3-over 867), North Carolina and North Carolina State (8-over 872), South Carolina (17-over 881), Miami (19-over 883), Michigan (21-over 885), Wake Forest (22-over 886), Virginia (33-over 897), UCF (36-over 900), Notre Dame (43-over 907), Oregon (50-over 914), Penn State (54-over 918), Georgetown (61-over 925), and CSU (65-over 929). Colorado State finished the tournament tied for sixth place, carding a 75-over 915 during the two-day tournament. Prendergast recorded her highest score of the tournament on Tuesday (7-over 77), but a 3-over 73 during Round 1 kept her among the leaders throughout the competition. Secor posted 7-over 77s in both of Monday s rounds before impressing on Day 2, firing a 2-over 72 to jump 11 places. She had three birdies and 10 pars during the final round. They each had six birdies overall, with Secor excelling on Par-4 and Par-5 holes. For Prendergast, it was her seventh top-20 finish of the season including in all five spring tournaments. Secor did it for the fourth time. The duo is on pace to record the third-best (Prendergast) and fourth-best (Secor) season stroke averages in CSU history. Seniors Brianna Becker and Elisabeth Rau also had strong tournaments. Becker finished tied for 24th out of 54 golfers with a 20-over 230. She had a 7-over 77 during Round 3, preceded by her best round of the week in Round 2 (4-over 74). Freshman Jessica Sloot finished 51st with a 36-over 246 while sophomore Caroline Reiners, competing as an individual, had a 51-over 261. CSU carded a 25-over 305 during Tuesday s final round. The Rams began the tournament with a 29-over 309 before shaving off eight strokes in the afternoon with a 21-over 301. Host Tulsa came from behind to win the tournament (41-over 881). New Mexico State placed second (46-over 886), followed by BYU (53-over 893), Fresno State (60-over 900), Kansas (67-over 907), CSU and Oral Roberts (75-over 915), Cincinnati (96-over 936) and Missouri State (101-over 941). The tournament was the 11th and final competition of the regular season for CSU. Next up, CSU will travel to Rancho Mirage, Calif., for the Mountain West Championship (April 17-19). A year ago, the Rams placed sixth, led by Prendergast s runner-up finish.
