2 Welcome to the 2013 Lombard Trophy We are delighted to inform you that The PGA and Lombard in association with the Royal Bank of Scotland have combined forces to re-launch one of the country s most popular Club events, the Lombard Trophy. Over the course of the 12 years of previous Lombard sponsorship, starting in 1995, the Lombard Trophy has played host to some great performances both in Regional and Grand Finals. Being the largest Pro-Am in Europe, over one million amateur golfers have already taken part in its history with many more now having the chance to cement their place in the history books. PGA Professionals will be competing for a share of the 80,000 prize fund with exciting prizes for amateurs at both Regional and Grand Finals. Lombard in association with the Royal Bank of Scotland and The PGA are delighted that the Grand Final in 2013 will be staged over the magnificent PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles in September, home of the 2014 Ryder Cup. You will see that there are 16 wonderful Regional Final venues and we are sure competitors, both Professional and amateur, will enjoy their day on any of these exceptional courses in their bid to make it to Gleneagles. This 2013 Lombard Trophy entry pack contains all the information you need to ensure your Club is represented at one of the 16 Regional Finals. 6 Conditions of Entry 1. Conditions of Play (iii) Each Club is invited to enter a team into the Lombard Trophy. A team comprises an eligible PGA Professional and the amateur winner of the Club Qualifying Round defined in 2. The Lombard Trophy is open to all Golf Clubs in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland that are affiliated to their relevant National or County Golf Union and currently engage a PGA Professional, as defined in 6 (Eligibility for Professionals). The Lombard Trophy is a better ball medal competition. (iv) The maximum handicap for competitors in the Lombard Trophy is 24. Amateurs with higher handicaps may enter and are required to play off a maximum of 24 at the Club Qualifying Round, Regional Final and Grand Final. At the Regional Final and Grand Final a ¾ handicap allowance will be granted. (v) (vi) An eligible PGA Professional and amateur may only represent one club in the Lombard Trophy. A PGA Professional representing his or her club is liable for disciplinary action, in accordance with the Association s Tournament Regulations, if for example the club fails to return their Team ConfirmaTion form to the Association by the due date, withdraws following the closing date or fails to be represented as required at the presentation of prizes. 2. Club Qualifying round (iii) Any full handicap stroke play competition played on the Club s own course can be designated as the Lombard Trophy Club Qualifying Round. Medal or Stableford events may be used for the Club Qualifying Round. Bogey or Par competitions are not permitted. Once the date of the Club Qualifying Round has been arranged, the Club must complete and return the CLUB entry form to The PGA or enter this information online via the participating Members PGA Players Club Account. This must be completed by close of entry for each Regional Final. (See Schedule for dates) (iv) Each amateur competitor is required to pay an entry fee of 2.00 or in the case of the Republic of Ireland 2.50 based on an exchange rate of 1.25 if paying by cheque. (v) (vi) The amateur who returns the best nett score or points total in the Club Qualifying Round qualifies to represent the Club at the respective Regional Final. In the event of a qualifying amateur from the Club Qualifying Round being unable to compete in the Regional Final for any reason, the runner-up in the Club Qualifying Round may be substituted. Should the runner-up be unable to play, the club must work down the results sheet in order from third position onwards, until a substitute amateur partner is determined. (vii) The total of the amateur entry fees, which must be a minimum of 50 or in the case of the Republic of Ireland based on an exchange rate of 1.25 if paying by cheque, should be forwarded to The PGA along with the Team ConfirmaTion form, PreSS PUBLiCiTY form, amateur entry SHeeT and full results SHeeT prior to the closing date for the Club s nominated Regional Final (as detailed in the Lombard Trophy Schedule). Payment online, via credit/debit card (excluding Amex) and by cheque is also available. (viii) If the Club Qualifying Round is abandoned or cancelled The PGA Tournament Department should be contacted on +44 (0) to discuss rearrangement. 3. regional finals (iii) (iv) (v) (vi) Clubs may nominate the Regional Final in which they wish to participate. Entry is limited to 64 teams per Regional Final and entries with a minimum of 25 participants in the Club Qualifying Round will be accepted, on a first come, first served basis. Club Qualifying Round entries of less than 25 participants will only be accepted if a Regional Final is not fully subscribed. However, this decision will be at the discretion of The PGA. Adjustments to field size and entries are at the discretion of The PGA. The Regional Finals are decided over 18 holes unless conditions require the number of holes to be reduced as per PGA Tournament Regulations. In the event of a tie, winners will be decided by a card play-off as follows: the lowest last 9, 6, 3, 1 holes. If a tie still remains the result will be determined by a match play, hole-by-hole play-off from the better ball scores recorded on the card starting at the first hole of the round. Information for competitors and the draw for starting times will be sent via to The PGA Professional approximately two weeks prior to the Regional Finals. They will also be available from The winning team from each Regional Final qualify for the Grand Final. Amateurs in the leading three teams receive prizes and these teams are therefore required to be represented at the presentation. 4. Grand final (iii) (iv) (v) The 2013 Lombard Trophy Grand Final will be a 36 hole better ball stroke play event with 18 holes to be played on each day unless conditions require this to be altered as per PGA Tournament Regulations. The field will total 16 teams, comprising the winning pair from each of the 16 Regional Finals. In the event of a tie for first place in the Grand Final, a hole-by-hole play-off will be held, the winning team of which will be champions. The play-off will commence from hole 1 and continue, playing the holes in order until a winner is determined. If applicable, handicap strokes will apply. Teams losing in such a play-off will be placed according to card play-off results unless performance in the hole-by-hole play-off determines these positions prior to the champions being determined. Card play-off, if applicable, will operate as follows: lowest last 18, 9, 6, 3 and 1 holes. If a tie still remains the result will be determined by a match play hole-by-hole play-off from the better ball scores recorded on the card starting at the first hole of the final round. If still tied, the same procedure will apply to the round 1 card. In the event of either the amateur or The PGA Professional of a winning team at a Regional Final leaving the Club before the Grand Final, or if the team is unable to participate in the Grand Final, the team finishing second in the relevant Regional Final will take the team s place. All competitors competing in the Grand Final will be expected to make and pay for their own travel arrangements to the Grand Final from their local departure point.

7 Conditions of Entry (continued) 5. General rules The Lombard Trophy is approved by the R&A for the payment of expenses Amateur Status Rule 4-2g RA/9/2013. The Championship will be run in accordance with the Constitution and Regulations of The Professional Golfers Association, the R&A Rules of Golf of R&A Rules Ltd, PGA Local Rules and Conditions of Competition and the additional local rules of each host venue as approved by the Tournament Director. 6. eligibility for Professionals The following PGA Professionals are eligible to compete in the Lombard Trophy: Those Class A, AA, AT, AAT, E, ET, G, and GT Members that are currently engaged at the entering club. Clubs operating out of municipal courses may participate in the event providing the municipal course out of which the club operates has an eligible PGA Professional as defined in 6 above. note 1: A PGA Professional operating a second club, may nominate another eligible PGA Professional currently engaged at that second club to represent the second club and play with the amateur winner of the Club Qualifying Round in both the Regional Final and Grand Final. note 2: Entry is open to those PGA Professionals detailed above. An eligible member may only represent one club in the Lombard Trophy. note 3: Entrants must satisfy the above criteria and eligibility conditions throughout all stages of the competition. 7. eligibility for amateurs (iii) The Lombard Trophy is open to all male amateur golfers aged 18 or over at the date of the Club Qualifying Round. All entrants must be a full member of the participating club. A current handicap certificate must be presented to The PGA at the Regional Finals and the Grand Final. The qualifying amateur must have an active CONGU handicap, or equivalent, throughout all stages of the competition. If an amateur s handicap is suspended or becomes inactive at any stage of the competition the amateur is no longer eligible to compete, which in the case of an amateur in a team qualified for the Grand Final, 4 (iv) applies. 9. Club entry fee and Closing Dates The Club Entry Fee for the Lombard Trophy is 35 or in the case of the Republic of Ireland based on an exchange rate of 1.25 if paying by cheque payable by, or on behalf of The PGA Professional. It should be forwarded to The PGA with the CLUB entry form. Payment methods are online, credit/debit cards (excluding Amex) and cheque. Closing dates for each Regional Final are shown on the full schedule. 10. Prize fund Breakdown ( GBP) The Lombard Trophy has a total prize fund of 80,000 ( GBP) split between the 16 Regional Finals and the Grand Final. This prize fund will be awarded to the better ball stroke play team scores, and there is no Professional individual prize fund. note 1: In the event of a tie, prize money is shared with the exception of a tie for first place in the Grand Final. See 4 (iii). note 2: To receive prize money, competitors must complete all rounds entered. note 3: Amateurs in the top three teams will be awarded a prize at all Regional Finals and the Grand Final. In the event of a tie for these places, the procedure in 3 (iv) will apply unless 4 (iii) determines otherwise. note 4: All prize money is subject to a 6% PGA levy. note 5: Non-UK tax payers (including the Irish Republic) may be subject to withholding tax on prize money won above the UK personal tax allowance threshold (Income tax year 2013/2014 9,440, subject to change each income tax year thereafter). 11. PGa rights The PGa reserves the right to change or amend the Conditions of entry. All disputes will be decided by The PGA whose decision will be final. The PGA disclaims all responsibility for forms which are lost, damaged in the post or for forms which arrive after the closing date. 8. Professional Substitutions (iii) Another eligible PGA Professional currently engaged as detailed in 6 may be substituted at any time prior to Regional Final at the request and approval of The PGA Professional originally entered. Assistant PGA Professionals currently employed by a member as detailed in 6 may only be substituted in exceptional circumstances and with the approval of The PGA Tournament Department, prior to the day of the Regional Final. Requests must be made in writing. The PGA Tournament Department must be informed of any substitutions as soon as possible. If either of the above policies are implemented and the team qualifies for the Grand Final, the substitute is required to participate in the Grand Final (i.e. the Professional is not allowed to replace the substitute Professional at the Grand Final).
