1 MEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION 2017 SCHEDULE OF EVENTS The Men s Golf Association (MGA) is pleased to present an exciting slate of tournaments for the 2017 season. Several of our events are free to MGA members. Many provide dinner, drinks and opportunities for extra-curricular fun. All provide pro-shop sweeps for the high finishers, points toward our Frank Sirch Player of the Year Award, and are guaranteed to offer good competition and camaraderie. We look forward to your participation this season! MGA Cup Dates: April 1 October 15 Chairman: Vince Mendoza Entry Fee: $25 Description: Season-long, individual match play championship. Field divided into 8-player flights based on Handicap Index (as of March 15). Matches played using 100% of the Course Handicap on date played, and spinning off the low ball. All play from white tees. Flight winners (and wildcards if needed) are randomly seeded into a 16-player finals bracket to determine the overall tournament winner CHAMPION: Vince Mendoza Green Coat Masters Dates: April Chairman: Mark West Entry Fee: $125 Description: Four-man scramble. Total team handicap must equal 50 or higher. Handicaps are based on average of prior year handicaps. Each team can have no more than two players with a single digit handicap and the maximum handicap for any player is 36. Saturday format: regular scramble; all play from the white tees; minimum of 3 drives per player. Sunday format: elimination scramble; A and B play from blue tees, C and D play from white tees; minimum of 3 drives per player. Players over 60 are eligible to move forward one set of tees in each day s format CHAMPIONS: Scott O Neal, Dwight Carmichael, Doug Downer, Glenn Kaufmann Breakfast Tournament #1 Date: May 7 Description: The Hidden Creek Breakfast Tournaments provide a season long competition which offers the opportunity for all MGA golfers to meet, socialize and play competitive golf
2 with a variety of partners chosen by computer. Daily prizes will be awarded for the low net teams. Season prizes will be awarded at the end of the year to those players with the best season records based on a point system. Tournament #1 is four-man, two best ball. Each player receives 90% of his Course Handicap. Play is from the white tees (exception: 60/20 may play from gold tees) CHAMPIONS: tournament cancelled due to weather Two Man Championship Dates: May Chairman: Alec Kormanec Description: Two man stroke play using a Modified Stableford scoring system. Both scores for each player will be counted each day for a team total. Play is from the white tees. Winner will be the team with the highest two day team total Net. Each player will receive 90% of his Course Handicap CHAMPIONS: Gross: Tim Woolsey, Ryan White Net: Dale Matthews, Doug Britt Senior Club Championship Dates: June 3 4 Chairman: Max Efrus Description: 36 hole individual stroke play. Participants in the Senior division must be 50 years old or older; play is from the white tees. Participants in the Super Senior division must be 65 years old or older; play is from the gold tees. Gross and Net prizes. Players receive 100% of their Course Handicap CHAMPIONS: Senior Gross: Ernie Page Senior Net: Victor Cabral Super Senior Gross: Mike Arons Super Senior Net: Al Khan Member-Guest Dates: June Chairman: Allen McGreevy Entry Fee: TBA Description: Flights of 6 teams play a round robin tournament consisting of five 9-hole matches. Flight winners and wild cards compete in a 4-hole alternate-shot elimination shoot-out to identify the overall tournament winner. Players receive 100% of their Course Handicaps CHAMPIONS: Matt Lesando, Dave Truitt
3 Breakfast Tournament #2 Date: June 25 Description: The Hidden Creek Breakfast Tournaments provide a season long competition which offers the opportunity for all MGA golfers to meet, socialize and play competitive golf with a variety of partners chosen by computer. Daily prizes will be awarded for the low net teams. Season prizes will be awarded at the end of the year to those players with the best season records based on a point system. Tournament #2 is four-man, two best ball. Each player receives 90% of his Course Handicap CHAMPIONS: Bruce Goodwin, Allen McGreevy, Garry Yeates, Ron Helming President s Cup Dates: July 8 9 Chairman: Ernie Page Description: 36 hole individual stroke play. All play from white tees. Players receive 100% of their Course Handicap. Prizes awarded for gross and net. Gross winner qualifies as 2 nd seed in Championship Flight for the HCCC Club Championship CHAMPIONS: Gross: Ryan Patrick Net: Mike Cleveland Memorial Date: July 30 Chairman: Alec Kormanec Description: Two-man net scramble. Must use 5 tee shots and 5 second shots for each player. Play is from the white tees. Each two man team s handicap will be calculated by taking 35% of the A player handicap plus 15% of the B player handicap (example A player is a 2 and B player is a 12 team total handicap would be 3). Winner is lowest net scramble score after 18 holes of play CHAMPIONS: Toby Marquez, Evan Planto Club Championship Dates: August Chairman: Allen McGreevy Description: Individual match play. Field is divided into 8-person flights. Participants in the Championship and President s Flights must qualify (see MGA bulletin board for qualifier
4 details), and play is from blue tees. Remaining flights are seeded by Course Handicap and play from the white tees. Players age 60 and over with Course Handicaps 20 and higher play from the gold tees.
