Time: All Day Representing the Great Pacific Northwest The week consisted of a lot of early mornings but after a week in the Florida sun, the Puget Sound Logger women s golf team represented the Northwest Conference well taking 18th at the 2009 NCAA Division III Championships at the PGA Village in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Saving the Best for Last After a nervous opening to the tournament, the Loggers used their two best rounds of the season to work their way into 18th place in the final standings. In the third round, the Loggers shot a 336 to establish a season best but Saturday s fourth round was even better as Puget Sound carded a 332 as a team to finish the season strong. We Are The Champions, My Friends The Puget Sound women s golf team knew that in order to win the 2009 NWC Title, they would have to not only have to win the NWC Championship tournament but Whitworth would have to finish no better than third place. The stars aligned for the Loggers as that is exactly what happened and the reward is a berth in the 2009 NCAA Division III s Golf Championship on May 13-16, 2009 in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Championship History The Loggers women s golf title is their second in three seasons. In 2007, the Loggers took 17th at the national championships, played at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. Making History Sophomore Natalie Nakamine put together the second-best round in Puget Sound women s golf history, firing a two-over par 77 on the second day of the Logger Invitational last week. It was her second 77 of the season as she carded the same score on the second day of the NWC Washington Fall Tournament. Challenging Courses The Loggers have the opportunity this season to play on some of the top golf courses in the Northwest. One of the highlights was the 2009 Northwest Conference Spring Classic, which was co-hosted by Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran, and was played at Chambers Bay GC in University Place. Chambers Bay will host the 2010 U.S. Amateur and the 2015 U.S. Open but not before hosting the 2009 NWC Spring Classic.
