1 ALS Industrial Pty Ltd 450 Dynon Rd West Melbourne VIC 3003 T F ABN: PRODUCT TESTING REPORT Subject PORTABLE POOL FENCE SYSTEM Prepared For: HUNTER PRODUCTS Address: LEVEL 2424 WARRIGAL ROAD MOORABBIN 3189 Attention: Mr DALE MCCLEARY PO Number: DM2001 Report Number: Date: 22 December INTRODUCTION It was requested that ALS perform a series of tests on a portable, flexible steel swimming pool fencing system in accordance with AS Swimming Pool Safety Part 1: Safety Barriers for Swimming Pools The supplied system consisted of three fence panels fixed to four steel posts (1400mm high, 2700mm long with 25mm diam. steel posts) and a gate system. The posts were fitted with removable steel ground spikes which for the purposes of qualification were encapsulated in a framework to simulate rigid installation. The middle of each panel was also fitted with an eyelet on the bottom border to allow for a tent peg to fix the barrier to the ground. 2. STRENGTH OF POSTS AND FOOTINGS The as supplied fence system was assembled as per the manufacturer s instructions and set for the strength of post and footings as per AS appendix B. The following test parameters were used to generate the test results listed; Fence system: Test locations: Test item: Load cell: 2700mm x 1400mm with 4 x 25mm diam. steel posts 1200mm up from bottom of post as installed A 0270 (105mm diam. flat faced plate) A1771 (50kg 0.01kg resolution) Date of test: 21/12/2016 Result: Nil permanent deflection after 33.7 kg (330N) for 30 seconds No evidence of breaks, loosening or damage impairing the effectiveness of the fence was observed- Complies Hunter Products P1 of 6

2 3. STRENGTH OF FLEXIBLE BARRIERS The as supplied fence system was assembled as per the manufacturer s instructions and set for the strength of flexible barriers as per AS appendix D. The following test parameters were used to generate the test results listed; Fence system: Test object: Test height: Swing arm: Swing height: 2700mm x 1400mm with 4 x 25mm diam. poles 9.1kg mass with 50mm diameter impact face Top of panel (both sides) 1440mm 40 o from vertical Date of test: 21/12/2016 Results: No evidence of breakage, fracture, loosening of components or permanent deflection: - Complies 4. MESH BARRIERS The mesh barrier system was assessed for its top pull down resistance by placing a 25kg load in the top center of the barrier. With the load applied the barrier top edge was 1220mm high and hence complies with section (e)(i). The mesh barrier system was assessed for its bottom pull up resistance by applying a 10kg vertical load to the bottom of the barrier between the pole and the peg. With the load applied the barrier bottom edge was 52mm high and hence complies with section (e)(ii). 5. GATE TESTING 5.1 Strength Tests The as supplied gate section was submitted for the strength tests as per AS appendix E. The following test parameters were used to generate the test results listed below; Test locations: Centre of gate and all four corners (both sides) 330 N (33.7 kg) Date of test: 22/12/ Hunter Products P2 of 6

3 Results: Test location: Result: Latch remained intact, frame bent less than 3mm - Complies Top edge of open gate 250 N (25.5 kg) Gate closes and latches - Complies 5.2 Gate Durability The as supplied gate section was submitted for the durability tests as per AS appendix F. The following test parameters were used to generate the test results listed below; Initial latching force: Gate cycles: Gate swing: 0.18 kg 10,000 (approx. 10 cycles per minute) 90 o Test date: 21-22/12/2016 Final latching force: Gate position: Test location: Observations: Gate position: Test location: Test direction: 0.19 kg Closed 330 N (33.7 kg) Center and four corners of gate, both sides No damage of deformation observed Open 250 N (25.5 kg) Top and bottom edge of gate 100mm from latch edge Vertical down (from top) and vertical up (from bottom) Gate still self closes and latching force less than 50N. No evidence of unhinging or unlatching and gate dimensions remained - Complies 6.0 RESULTS The portable pool fence and gate as supplied complied with the mechanical testing requirements of AS sections (e), 3.2, 3.3.2, 3.4, 3.5 and Hunter Products P3 of 6
