3 Dear Beefmaster Breeders: B E E F M A S T E R S P.O. Box 2947, Laredo, Texas , (36) or (36) You are all personally invited to our Production Sale on Saturday, October 23, 200, at our Wilson County Division eight miles West of Floresville, Texas, on Highway 97 in our new cattle sales facility. The long delay after our last sale in having this sale was because of my decision after that last sale to build a cattle sales facility and our delay in doing so because of our expenditures in adding, at various times, three contiguous parcels to our Kendall County ranch and one to our Wilson county ranch. We are the breeder of every live animal in this offering. This offering is built in large part around the genetics of our two deceased Pacesetter herd sires, Classic Cotton (Levi x Cotton Cow) and Cornerstone (Natural Selection x Phannie Marie) and our near fourteen year old donor, Miss Dusty (Painted Tiger x Lady Jacqueline). These genetics combine very well phenotypically and as to performance. While we involve other genetics our Classic Cotton, Cornerstone and Miss Dusty genetics continue to rise to the top in our operation. Our program involves numerous objective evaluations of our catle and this catalog presents that information with very few other embellishments. More about our operations appears elsewhere in this catalog. With the exception of the calves in the first calf 3in lots, all of the cattle offered were born in 2008 or Certainly the fertility of the first calf 3in packages speak for themselves. PLEASE REMEMBER, AS YOU REVIEW RFORMANCE DATA ON THESE CATTLE, ALL OF OUR AREAS OF ORATION WERE IN A SEVERE DROUGHT ALL DURING 2008 AND UNTIL THE FALL OF We do not do any creep feeding. These cattle have now overcome all the earlier impacts of the drought. Join us on Friday the 22nd to view the cattle; Friday early evening for food and music and we will feed you before and after the sale on Saturday. Most importantly you may rest assured, that over and above your assurances under the BBU sale rules, every reasonable effort will be made to insure your satisfaction with your purchases at this sale. Cordially, Bill & Dusty Carr PAGE 3

4 B E E F M A S T E R S A LITTLE ABOUT OUR ORATION We own and operate ranches in Webb, Wilson and Kendall Counties, Texas, aggregating well over 4,000 acres. In addition to our purebred Beefmaster cattle we maintain 300 to 400 F Braford females used as recipients and put Hereford or Angus bulls on them, after putting a Beefmaster embryo in them or failing to qualify them, to produce a very marketable feeder calf after grown to a desirable feedlot weight on our pastures. Our purebred Beefmaster females are synchronized, and if heat detect, A.I. ed once and them broken into various groups and exposed to one bull. Our weaned, Spring born replacements are developed on oats and Bermuda grasses at our Wilson County Division and are there weighed at various stages, classified, conogrammed and have pelvics measured. We retain ownership of and feedlot feed at least a truck load of our purebred Beefmaster steers each year obtaining feedlot performance and individual carcass data on them. Our cattle, and I think the Beefmaster breed as a whole, are very efficient in the feedlot as they gain rapidly, convert feed efficiently and provide acceptable carcasses. For feeding periods of approximately 220 days our Beefmaster steers have averaged gaining approximately 3/2 pounds per day on a 5.64 dry matter pounds of feed per day. With good health, that kind of feedlot performance will usually be more profitable than selling intact culled bull calves at weaning and will provide valuable carcass information. Research has shown, and our experience has confirmed, that Beefmaster females with reasonable genetics and nutrition will have pelvic growth from yearlings to two year olds of 8 to 0 square centimeters per month and will require approximately 3 square centimeters of pelvic area per pound of calf born to avoid calving problems from pelvic size. Pelvic measurements are a factor in our breeding decisions. See the footnote for lot 65 in this catalog for more information about our approaches to meaningful data collection. PAGE 4

5 Dear Beefmaster Breeders & Friends, Welcome to the first production sale in 2 years of Bill and Dusty Carr. It will be an event you will not forget or want to miss. Quality cattle, along with quality hospitality and will make for a weekend event second to none. Over the past several decades there have been several individuals who have truly made a difference in the Beefmaster breed. None have been more important to the association or the breed of cattle, than Bill and Dusty Carr. Bill and Dusty Carr came into this breed 38 years ago with a passion for perfection. That passion was introduced to the association and Bill became that guiding voice where he served on many or all of the committees, has served on the Board twice, and as President of BBU has been named Breeder of the Year, has received the award for Performance Breeder of the Year, the Environmental Award, the Helping Hand Award from JBBA, and most recently the Legends Award from the LOBBA. Bill Carr has also served on the Board of the National Cattleman s Association. His dedication to producing top quality cattle has been an asset to the future of Beefmasters in the beef industry. Anyone who knows Bill or has worked with him knows he is unselfish in his service and has always set his goals high and has never settled for less. The new sale facility absolutely impressive, you must see it to believe it! The Sale Offering: 7320 Triple Elm North San Antonio, Texas / Office 20/ Fax ajmihalski@aol.com The bull power is tremendous. In my 40 years of marketing Beefmasters, never has one individual been able to offer this much quality, pedigree and performance in one sale. The 5 herd sire prospects that will be selling have passed the strict requirements established by Hilltop Ranch and without a doubt will produce a very predictable product for many years to come. The entire offering is bred and produced by Bill and Dusty Carr, and are all 08, and 09 model young cattle. 0 st calf threeinone s. These first calf females calved as 2 year olds, are raising powerful calves and are consistently bred back to have their second calf right on schedule. 0 fall calving heavy bred and calving. 22 spring calving heifers. This combined total of 3 bred heifers carry the same great genetics and like the first calf threeinone s are extremely fertile, not only did they breed young and within the rigid breeding season, most settled first service. 8 breeding age open heifers. These heifers are gorgeous and have never been exposed. They are cycling and ready to breed. Expect them to be very fertile! While reviewing this catalogue note that Bill Carr has provided so much meaningful, factual and useful data to aid you in your selections, evaluated factual information. All performance weights, sonograms, pelvic area measurements, classifications and EPD s are included. The information provided on these cattle will be as complete as you will find anywhere. Please call me for any information or questions regarding the sale event. Again, it will be one you will not want to miss. I look forward to seeing you there. Sincerely, Anthony J. Mihalski PAGE 5

6 Dear Beefmaster Breeder, Bill and Dusty Carr have confirmed their dedication and devotion to the Beefmaster Breed through their actions. They have served on and given their time to every committee and function BBU has and have been recipients of almost every honor that can be bestowed to a Beefmaster Breeder. Now they are bringing you the opportunity to attain superior Beefmaster, be entertained and catered to in a facility that is second to none. Make plans now to join us for the Carr Fall Production Sale to be held Saturday October 23, 200. This production sale is all 4 C breeding with all the criteria of this breeding program being applied. The youth and complete performance information attached to this sale offering is exactly what a production sale should be. The essence of showing what your plan is and what your program has produced will impress the most discriminate of Breeders. This sale offering has been contracted from the heart of the last three years production. These individuals will fortify that this breeding program will produce individuals with the desired quality and performance even when faced with the worst twoyear drought in Texas history. Just imagine what they will do under normal environmental conditions. 4C Beefmaster will enhance your opportunity for success and in this sale offering you have the youth working in your favor to develop your breeding program success story. Study the sale offering and notice the consistency of conformation and overall quality. It is by design that these individuals have passed the requirements of objective observation and measurement evaluation before being offered to you. It starts with Herdsire prospects of the proper age to evaluate what they are now what they might be and backed by predictable performance with pedigree to enhance the consistency of your product. First Calf 3 n s that bred calved and bred back during the twoyear drought and have coupons at side that will carry that same superior production tradition on for you. Fall calving females that either have a brand new baby or are ready to have it when you take them home offer the opportunity to add your influence on the next calf. A large offering of Spring Calvers with superior genetics proven to perform above the usual standard and calves that will bring in the future quality you desire. Then comes the Open Heifers that have been held open for you to take home and breed next month. These babies are not only pretty to look at but have the thickness volume and breed character that has kept this breed the maternal powerhouse that it is. Close it out with a special price on the legendary Pacesetter Bull Classic Cotton whose production performance is on display throughout this offering so there is no question what you can predict when breeding him and you have confirmed why you should participate in this opportunity. This will be the inaugural event in the new sale facility and trust me you want to be here when Dusty puts her influence on this party. Join us Friday to evaluate the sale offering and enjoy the live entertainment and meal in the social room and then Saturday after breakfast take advantage of the opportunity to put some 4C Beefmaster influence into your breeding program. The sale will be shown live on the Internet at where you can bid and buy live online if you can not join us and there is a sale offering DVD available. If myself, Anthony, Mike or Dan can be of any assistance in helping you make purchases or selections do not hesitate to contact us. See you in Floresville! Bruce Robbins PAGE 6

We will all be present on October 23 for their Fall Production Sale at their new sale facility in Floresville, Texas. Over the years Bill has been at the forefront of performance oriented cattle. Bill and Dusty Carr have actively and unselfishly given their time to this breed by their committee work and board membership. Many of our bylaws and legal workings are the direct result of Bill. They love this breed and the people. We will sell approximately 65 lots of all categories to include open heifers, bred heifers, first calf pairs by sale, first calf threeinone s and herd bull prospects. 11 FIRST CALF THREEINONES First calf 3inone is a very prestigious category in our operation in that we synchronize our heifers as yearlings (25 mos.) and if heat is detected they are A.I. ed one time and sixteen days later exposed to one bull. If heat is not detected they are exposed to one bull immediately. Our breeding season is 60 to 75 days. Those heifers that conceive in this program calve at two years of age and have a similar breeding exposure 60 to 75 days after having their first calf. Those that conceive to have their second calf as a three year old are our First Calf 3inOnes. We are only parting with ten of them in this offering Classic Cotton x 9057 (Painted Tiger x Robert E. 28 LOT 65 CLASSIC COTTON SEMEN It is our belief that confidence in selling and buying cattle grows with the extent of existing evaluations of the genetics involved. It is with this philosophy and the meritorious nature of the numerous evaluations of Classic Cotton, out of the time tested parentage of Levi and the Cotton Cow, that we have built a significant part of our program and the offering in this production sale around him. By one year of age, his evaluations included: Birth weight: 70 lbs. 205 day adj. wt.: 673 lbs. 342 day sonogram of ribeye: 7. sq. in..46 sq. in./cwt..24 in. fat cover 365 day actual wt.:,285 lbs. His first purebred progeny as yearlings had the following ribeye sonogram average evaluations: 8 Bulls: 5.8 sq. in..35 sq. in./cwt.. in. fat cover 0 Heifers:.29 sq. in./cwt..2 in. fat cover I was so impressed with Classic Cotton as a young bull that I was determined to comprehensively evaluate him. While EPD s are widely accepted by the beef industry in evaluating cattle I don t believe there are any more meaningful evaluations than through progeny testing. Accordingly I went out and bought 50 very average F Braford cows, 25 very average Hereford cows, 25 very average Angus cows and 25 very average Limousin cows to use in progeny testing Classic Cotton. These breeds were selected because, other than the F Brafords, they had the largest registries in the industry at the time. All 25 of these cows were synchronized and bred A.I. to Classic Cotton and his purebred sons put on them after A.I. Progeny out of these matings were evaluated for several years in the Texas Ranch to Rail Program. Other tests of Classic Cotton purebred and crossbred progeny in tests conducted by Texas Tech and Texas A&M confirmed they grow rapidly and efficiently and have very acceptable carcasses. A randon sampling of 50 Classic Cotton steers out of F Brafords and commercial Hereford, Angus and Limousin dams fed and evaluated in the and the Texas Ranch to Rail Program had average Warner Bratzler shear force evaluation scores of 5.7 lbs. and 5.2 lbs. respectively. Readings of 0 and under are considered acceptably tender for most retail over the counter trade and of 8 and under acceptably tender for consumption in better restaurants. In a Texas A&M progeny evaluation project involving its test herd of Angus cows, semen from 5 prominent BBU sires was used. While doing well in all categories, the Classic Cotton progeny were number one in each yearling weight, ribeye area and tenderness substantiating their growth rate, muscularity and eating quality. A pen of 36 of our purebred Beefmaster steers including 26 Classic Cotton steers fed in the Nolan Ryan T.A.B. Program were harvested in August of 200 and every one had a qualifying tenderness score and this entire group had one of the highest, if not the highest, percentage of overall qualifiers of any group withing the approximately 70,000 head, at that time, fed in the Nolan Ryan T.A.B. Program. Enough of his female progeny have been in breeding programs long enough to prove their reproductive merit. They constantly rise to the top in our program. Classic Cotton is one of the breed s earliest and few Typesetter/Pacesetter bulls. Raising cattle involves numerous risks you cannot control. Use of proven superior genetics is a means of reducing these risks. Classic Cotton is one of the most comprehensively evaluated bulls in the breed. His meritorious contributions to the breed have been established and are growing. Let him take much of the risk out of your breeding program. CLASSIC COTTON SEMEN AVAILABLE DURING THIS SALE AT $75.00 R STRAW WITH A 0 STRAW MINIMUM PUR CHASE. AFTER THIS SALE THE PRICE WILL INCREASE TO $00 R STRAW. PAGE 28

Fat:.20 in.; IMF: 2.25 LENGTH: EXTRAORDINARILY LONG A lot of our program in recent years has been built a round the gread herd sire C o rn e r s t o n e a n d Classic Cotton because of the respective perf o rmance achievements and objective evaluations of them and their progeny. Blending these genetics and that of our legendary deceased donor, Z240, (Robert E. Lee x Harrell 05), Benchmark exemplifies the meritorious contributions these genetics are making to the breed. Benchmark had the highest EPDs for each weaning weight, yearling weight and scrotal of all 52 bulls listed in the Young Sire section of the BBU Fall 2002 Sire Summary. Benchmark is now in the Active Sire Section of the BBU Spring 2004 Sire Summary where his EPDs are 29 for weaning wt., 57 for yearling wt., 9 for total maternal and.8 for scrotal. The ONLY bulls in the BBU Spring 2004 Sire Summary with a scrotal EPD as high as.8 are Cornerstone and Benchmark. Z240 Out of Robert E. Lee and the Harrel 05 cow. We successfully flushed this cow until her death at the age of 7. PAGE 29
