6 PROTECTION GUIDE BODY ARMOUR Syringe Protection There is no Home Office standard for syringe protection, but all Fortis body armour provides a high level of resistance to syringes Spike Protection Fortis body armour is certified to the Home Office spike resistance (SP) standards. Many suppliers offer knife resistance (KR) but no spike resistance. Spikes are a separate and serious threat, REQUESTED with a separate BY: Home Office standard. Spike protection relates to spiked weapons, such as screwdrivers, chisels and other improvised weapons Knife Resistance Body Armour Standards Fortis armour is tested and certificated to either KR1 or KR2. Knife Resistance relates to edged weapons, such as knives and axes KR1 (Knife Resistance Level 1) & SP1 (Spike Resistance Level 1) are the levels of stab and spike protection recommended by the Home Office for general police duties. The vast majority of police in the UK wear KR1 level vests The vast majority of police in the UK wear KR1 level vests. KR1 (when combined with SP1 and syringe/needle protection) will provide adequate protection in the vast majority of situations. KR2 (Knife Resistance Level 2) & SP2 (Spike Resistance Level 2) are the levels of stab and spike protection recommended by the Home Office for more dangerous police duties, such as armed patrol in higher risk scenarios, eg. patrolling at airports or escorting prisoners. Ballistic (Bullet) Body Armour Standards The levels of protection cover the following threat groupings: HG1 - Low Handgun Protection against standard ammunition fired from short-barrelled handguns. This is the level of protection recommended by the Home Office for general police duties where handguns may be encountered HG2 - High Handgun/ Carbine Protection against standard ammunition fired from long barrelled handguns, 9mm carbines and sub machine guns. This is the level of protection recommended by the Home Office for higher risk scenarios for tactical firearms teams, special forces operations and situations where sub machine guns may be encountered RF1 Rifle Protection against soft-core ammunition fired from rifles. 7 INFORMATION BODY ARMOUR Insurance Fortis Armour carries Public and Product Liability insurance held by TW Kempton (Corporate Clothing) Ltd of 10,000,000 for each and every occurrence. ISO Accreditation T W Kempton (Corporate Clothing) Ltd have been assessed and certified by SGS United Kingdom Ltd as meeting the requirements of ISO 9001:2008 for the manufacture and supply of ballistic proof equipment, including body armour, for both personal and vehicle use. United Kingdom Home Office Certification and United States Accreditation Fortis armour is dual qualified by the United Kingdom Home Office and the National Institute of Justice in the United States. Each piece of armour is given a unique reference number for full traceability. Guarantee (Warranty) TW Kempton (Corporate Clothing) Limited warrants subject to the Conditions below that the products described below will have an operational life from the date of manufacture for a period of years as follows: 1 Dual Purpose (Ballistic and Stab) Vest 5 years 2 Stab Vest 5 years 3 Carriers (body armour carriers) 1 year 4 Armour Holdalls 1 year The Conditions This Warranty is made conditional upon the user of the Products having: Taken proper care in the handling and storage of the Products; Made proper use of the Products; Complied with all care & maintenance instructions regarding use and/or wear of the Products; Notified to TW Kempton (Corporate Clothing) Ltd the full details of any claim and returned any faulty Product within 1 month of the fault occurring. Exclusion Deterioration due to damage to the Products through trauma is excluded from the Warranty. Return and Repair/Replacement of Defective/Non-Compliant Items TW Kempton (Corporate Clothing) Limited warrants to: Replace or repair any product failing to meet the required quality or standard of construction as per the Specification or standard of the sample supplied as part of the Contract. Replace any armour failing to fully comply with the measurements taken.
