Members Deb Dawkins, Carol Bush, and Sherry Harris were participants and Nancy Offen was an auditor. The goal of the clinic was to teach participants how to drive some of the figures in an elementary dressage test in an effort to help improve the willingness of the horse to move forward on the bit and help the driver with an understanding how to achieve better accuracy in executing the Dressage figures. Everyone felt they really benefited from this event and the DDC even gained a new member - Mary Nelson from Elkton, MD. Anna Klumpp Instructor Attention!! Page 6 Recap of the Annual Pleasure Driving Show As one of the benefits of the Club, we offer an introduction to the competition aspect of driving via our Annual Pleasure Driving Show.

This year we had nineteen very diverse entries from extreme novice to seasoned veterans of horse shows.

This mix was very successful and the Show Organizers received many positive comments on everything from the show grounds, the judge, the classes, and the friendliness and organization of the show

6 Page 6 Recap of the Annual Pleasure Driving Show As one of the benefits of the Club, we offer an introduction to the competition aspect of driving via our Annual Pleasure Driving Show. This low key event is designed to help drivers receive an insight into what competition driving is all about as well as help other members actively pursue a means of competition. This year we had nineteen very diverse entries from extreme novice to seasoned veterans of horse shows. Folks came from Pennsylvania, Virginia, New Jersey, Maryland, and Delaware one traveled over five hours to attend this show! This mix was very successful and the Show Organizers received many positive comments on everything from the show grounds, the judge, the classes, and the friendliness and organization of the show staff. Many ring classes were offered, however entrants loved the challenge of the Cones Course designed and judged by Anna Klumpp. Back this year was the Obstacle Course designed and judged by Linda Thomas. There were thirteen competitors for this class who were challenged by eight (8) obstacles that may be found on a country drive however the railroad tracks did give a few equines something to think about. One driver enjoyed the course so much, she asked to drive it again upon the completion of the class! Everyone had a safe and rewarding day and I think many are looking forward to next year! Save the date in May to either participate, volunteer, or spectate. You won t regret it. As always the Show Committee is looking for volunteers!!!!! DIY Corner Projects for Your Barn Using Recycled Materials Shavings Saver Use the head of a push broom mounted in the stall door to keep the shavings where they belong! Visit your local Dollar Store for these microfiber car cleaning gloves which will remove the last bit of dust from your horse, your tack, the top of your tack trunk, you name it! Meet the Members! The DDC welcomes Mary Nelson from Elkton, Maryland. She came to the Driven Dressage 101 Clinic, enjoyed that and ended up a member of the DDC. We hope to see you at some of our events!!!! 7 Page 7 Let s Drive! Upcoming Events! 5/19/18 COME DRIVE WITH US! The DDC is sponsoring a drive on Saturday in Goldsboro, MD. Carol Seiler is hosting this drive at her house and the details are as follows: Where: Spruce St. Goldsboro, MD beginning at 11 am What: A 3.8 mile drive (longer distance possible) along country roads which are mostly a dirt surface. Parking will be available in her pasture and along the fence on the road (for larger rigs). Outriders are welcome as well! There is no rain date for this event. PLEASE R.S.V.P. to Carol at as she is preparing food to serve following the drive. Everyone is asked to bring a side dish to share. Anyone who would like to volunteer to bring drinks would be greatly appreciated. HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!!!!! 5/24 to 6/3/18 Devon Horse Show in Devon, PA (Driving and Coaching classes) 5/26/18 Chestertown Tea Party Parade in Chestertown, MD 6/3/18 Come join DDC members for a leisurely drive through the beautiful trails at Furnace Town. This venue is located just outside of Snow Hill, Maryland. The event with feature a drive from 11 am to 1 pm. Due to unforeseen circumstances there will be no dinner prepared by the Furnance Town Living Heritage Museum. Traditional driving dress is recommended (but not required). On the Thursday after Election Day, the winners and losers ride together in carriages around the circle in Georgetown, DE.
