Draft Methodology for Prioritizing ESA Status Reviews 1: Highest Priority: Critically Imperiled 2: Strong Data Available on Species Status 3: New Science Underway to Inform Key Uncertainties 4: Conservation Opportunities Underway 5: Limited Data Currently Available Federal Register on January 15, 2016

ESA Regulatory Improvements These actions are intended to: Improve the science and increase transparency Incentivize voluntary conservation efforts Focus limited resources to achieve more successes Engage the States more fully

Regulation/Policy Revisions Petition regulation revisions Clarifying procedures for designating and revising Critical Habitat Pre listing P conservation actions policy

Petition Regulation Revisions Require notification of the State Wildlife Agencies before petition is submitted Would limit petitions to one species per petition

Additionally the Secretary may exclude an area from Additionally, the Secretary may exclude an area from critical habitat if the benefits of excluding the area outweigh the benefits of including the area so long as the exclusion will not result in the extinction of the species concerned.
