(For information on license & tag prices see page titled: Official Application Deadlines and Out of State License and Tag Prices) Deposit Policy A deposit of 25% of the trip is required to book your reservation. The full 50% deposit is due by mid January of the hunt year. Deposits are fully refundable until the state licensing process begins which is in late January. The balance of the cost of the trip is due 60 days prior to trip date and is non-refundable. Trips not fully paid by this date will be considered cancelled. Drop Camp Pricing The base rate for a drop camp is $500. The rate for stock is $25 per hour per animal. Example: If you want to be dropped off 4 hours from the trailhead, this requires 8 hours round trip for your guide and his stock and 8 more hours roundtrip to pick you up and return you to the trailhead (4hrs. in + 4hrs. out + 4hrs. in + 4hrs. out = 16 hours). If the trip requires 3 animals (your guides horse, the horse you are riding, and one pack

2 mule) that would be $75 per hour ($25 X 3 animals) X 16 hours = $1200. 4 INFORMATION FOR WILDERNESS HUNTING Our wilderness hunts are in rugged, rigorous country, typical of the great hunting areas in North America. The area in which we hunt is prime habitat for elk, mountain goat, bighorn sheep, moose and black bear. The elk in this area are a resident and migratory herd. The area is rough and remote which allow the elk the years necessary to develop quality antlers. The landscape varies from large open meadows to lightly timbered south slopes and long benches. This area is also grizzly bear habitat; however, chances are you won t see a grizzly. The weather in September is usually in the sixties and seventies in the day and in the thirties at night. It gets cold in October and much colder in November. It can snow in September and be mild in November. One thing you can always count on is that mountain weather is unpredictable. ABO operates three wilderness hunting camps, Hellroaring, Independence and Greater Yellowstone. Hellroaring, our early season camp, is located in Bull Moose Meadows, 8 miles north of Yellowstone National Park. It is accessed by a 12-mile horseback ride. Getting to Hellroaring from Bozeman or Big Timber takes the better part of a day. Accommodations include comfortable carpeted wall tents with cots, foam pads and wood stoves. There are 3 or 4 hunters per tent. A shower is available, which is always medicine for the weary. Hearty meals are prepared by our great camp cook and are served in a central eating tent. Independence is our bow hunting, sheep hunting, goat hunting and the early part of the general season camp. It is located 55 miles south of Big Timber at the head of the Boulder River. Independence is accessed by 4 x 4 vehicles. Accommodations and meals are similar to Hellroaring but without the shower and central eating tent. Greater Yellowstone is our general season and late season camp. It is located just outside Gardiner, Montana. Gardiner is the north entrance to Yellowstone National Park. Greater Yellowstone camp is accessed by 4x4 vehicles. Accommodations for the Greater Yellowstone camp will be either comfortable cabins or comfortable wall tents and will include delicious home cooked meals. A typical day of hunting consists of leaving after breakfast and riding in the dark. Some days we will hunt until late morning, return to camp, and then hunt again in the late afternoon until dark. Other days we will stay out all day. Walking and/or riding are mandatory. Being in good condition for hiking and riding will help you have a more successful hunt. We hunt as hard as you choose to hunt. Mountain goat and bighorn sheep hunters should expect long days of glassing. Our guides are experienced outdoorsmen and know the area extremely well.

Dates and prices change very slightly each year. 6 STEPS TO RECEIVE YOUR LICENSE/TAGS o For elk, and deer mail to Absaroka-Beartooth Outfitters your initial 50% deposit for the hunt. We must have your hunt deposit before we are able to send you your outfitter-sponsored applications. When we receive your deposit, we will send you an outfitter-sponsored guaranteed license application and an outfitter certification sheet. MFWP now has outfitter sponsored applications available online. If you want to apply online we will you the instructions and assist you through the online application process. o Once you receive the license application and the outfitter certification, complete these documents and mail to Absaroka-Beartooth Outfitters with a certified check made out to Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks for the amount of the license(s). (Prices vary slightly each year.) ABO will hand deliver your check and these completed documents directly to Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks. This paragraph is not applicable if you applied online. o All OF THIS MUST BE DONE BY MARCH 1. This is to ensure that we do not miss the March 15 deadline. o WE MUST RECEIVE ALL DOCUMENTS AND PAYMENTS 15 DAYS PRIOR TO THE LISTED OFFICIAL DEADLINES TO ENSURE COMPLETED INFORMATION AND DELIVERY. o For black bear, call for an application or apply online with Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks, , to purchase a guaranteed tag. o For mountain goat, moose and bison, call Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks, , and get on the mailing list for non resident tags. Give them your name and address. MFWP will mail you forms to complete and return to them in order for you to participate in the tag drawing. Or, you can apply online. Make sure you put in for mountain goat area 323 or 329, for moose area 316 or 516. If you draw a tag (tag drawings are the last week of June), please contact ABO with the dates you want to hunt. Once the dates are confirmed, you book your hunt by sending us a 50% deposit. o For Bighorn sheep, call for an application or apply online with Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks, , You must apply for a specific area. Be sure to check with Absaroka-Beartooth Outfitters ( ) before applying to verify our bighorn sheep areas.

7 WHAT S INCLUDED AND WHAT S NOT INCLUDED WILDERNESS HUNTING WHAT S INCLUDED The rates for hunting trips include: Transportation from hotel the morning of departure to trailhead Return transportation to hotel from trailhead Lunch to and from the trailhead to camp Field care of trophies and transportation of your animals to our local taxidermist and/or your meat to the local butcher In the backcountry, use of horses, mules, tack, all camp accommodations, all meals, and non-alcoholic beverages Experienced Guides WHAT S NOT INCLUDED The rates for hunting trips do not include: Transportation to Montana Montana hunting licenses and tags Montana fishing licenses Hunting equipment including guns and ammunition Transportation of trophies to final destination Fishing equipment including rods and flies Sleeping bags Incoming and outgoing nights lodging before and after trip Any additional transportation costs Gratuities for guides

8 TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS WILDERNESS HUNTING All Hunters plan to stay in Big Timber the night before your hunting trip begins. We return to Big Timber from your hunting trip in the late afternoon (4:00 or 5:00). Therefore, you will want to make a hotel reservation for your return as well. If you are flying out the next morning make your return hotel reservation in Bozeman. If you have not rented a car we will provide you transportation to your hotel in Bozeman. In Big Timber we recommend the Super 8 Motel ( ) which has comfortable rooms with small refrigerators and serves a light breakfast. For a heartier breakfast, the Country Skillet is across the street from the Super 8 and opens for breakfast at 6:00 AM. We also recommend The Grand Hotel ( or ), a charming and beautifully renovated historical hotel in downtown Big Timber. The hotel has a great bar with good food. They also offer fabulous gourmet dining but be sure to make a reservation as it is a popular place. The hotel serves a delicious full breakfast as well but not before 8:00am. So if you have a vehicle you can always head over to the Frosty Freeze (a local hangout) or the Country Skillet for an earlier breakfast. Accommodations are limited in Big Timber so make your reservations as early as possible. In Bozeman we recommend the Wingate Inn ( ). They provide shuttle service from the hotel to the airport. The Inn has a breakfast bar that opens at 5:30 each morning, comfortable rooms, a pool and an exercise facility. For reduced rates, refer to our VIP CODE (ABO) when making reservations. Make your reservations early. Bozeman is a college town and the fall is a busy time of year with college related activities. Early (approx. 7:00 am) on the morning of your departure, an ABO guide will meet you at your hotel to transport you to the trailhead. Please check in with ABO ( ) upon arrival in Big Timber to let us know you have arrived. Leave your cell phone number so we can call and confirm the morning departure time. Guests Driving: Big Timber is off Interstate 90 approx. halfway between Bozeman and Billings. You can leave your car at ABO s headquarters the morning you depart for camp. We will provide directions to ABO headquarters upon your arrival in Big Timber. Guests Flying: Plan to fly into the Bozeman International Airport (BZN) the day before your trip begins. The following airlines service Bozeman: Delta American Horizon Air Northwest Alaska Airlines Frontier The service is usually very good into Bozeman. However, this is a college town, home to Montana State University, so make your reservations early. Check out Montana Travel ( ) or (info@mttravel.com) for some of the best air fares available. Remember, Bozeman is on Mountain Time so keep that in mind when making your travel arrangements. If you are not renting a car we will arrange for someone to meet you at the airport and drive you to Big Timber. You will need to make a reservation at the Super 8 or the Grand Hotel in Big Timber for the night before you leave for camp and a reservation in Bozeman for the night you return from camp.
