6 VI. Sixth Dan Requirements Rediscover all the empty handed movement from a knife perspective. These attributes should be mastered. A. First strike 1. Thrust (direct) 2. Strike to kill with no engagement B. Thrust for thrust C. See clear intent (2nd dan) direct attack; one enter, one kill. VII. Seventh Dan and Eighth Dan These black belt ranks are political achievement awards for what you have done for your style and the martial arts in general. VIII. Ninth Dan Five years after your retirement and your martial art style is still taught. IX. Tenth Dan Twenty years have passed since your death and your martial art style is still taught.
